Now we all love Gary and we love the show, but this guest was just too starstruck and psychophantic to do himself justice. I’m sure he’s a nice guy but he seemed a whisker away from wanking GV off…and that is an image I’m desperately trying to erase from my mind!

That was truly an awesome show! Steve was smart and fun! Off to his website next!

QOTD: A few years ago, after yet another Christmas/job-well-done (husband’s a contractor) gift of a bottle of wine, it finally dawned on me that we had no real clue on any level about what we were being given and drinking. That was the original epiphany. Then I found WLTV. Each epiphany after that has been increasingly informed and much more enjoyable!

Great episode, and I’ll be sure and check out the coffee podcast.
Qotd: The first time a wine challenged me is when I started drinking italian sparkling wines about a year ago. Because before that I would get champagne for bubbly wine but wasn’t particularly impressed. And then I had that and it was clean and crisp while still being sweet.

Great episode. It’s too bad you didn’t have glasses and the sound wasn’t better, but I really liked the guest.

qotd: When I was just starting to get into wine I had a really good white Burgundy (not sure what it was) that really amazed me. I didn’t know before that that a wine could be so complex and evolve so much through the attack, middle, and finish. I don’t think the masses would have found it delicious, but the wine was truly thought provoking.

QOTD: Wine epiphany moment? Realising that I wanted to get into the wine trade. Bottles? Any chenin blanc from the Loire valley – in fact any wine from the Loire Valley!

Loved the show. Steve’s got passion, that’s for sure!
Great to see you on Sunday. Sorry I had to leave so early, but it was a school night, I needed to tuck my daughter in for a change (I usually work nights) and work out some things with the hubby. “Family First” as you always say.

QOTD: I went to an “Alternative White Wine Tasting” at K&L in SF last fall and it totally rocked my world to find other whites besides Chardonnay which I don’t usually like:
2007 Fefinanes Albarino, Rias Baixas: $24: Crisp, friuty with a nice bite
(Brought it to Thanksgiving, it think it was a nice pairing)
2006 Krizevci Grasevina: $12: Minerally, not friuty
2007 Bernard Ott Gruner Veltliner Am Berg: $17: Friuty, crisp, off-dry, nice nose, good finish
2007 Celadon, Topanga Vineyards “Beeswax Vineyard: Grenache Blanc: $20)
    Full-bodied, oaky, smokey
2007 Grange Tiphane Touraine-Amboise Bel Air Sec (Chenin Blanc): $14
    Smooth, tangy finish
2007 Skouras Mascofilero: $16: No notes
2007 Vietti Arneis: $21: Well rounded, good body, tangy finish
2006 Tessier Cour Cheverney Domaine Blanc (Romorantin): $16:
    Distinct, strong nose
2006 VdP s’Oc Blanc Jean-Louis Denois Roussanne “Les Oliviers”: $13: No notes
2006 Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh Laffitte Teston “Erika” (Petit Manseng, Gros Manseng, Petit Courbu): $20: Smokey, Oaky
2001 Hetszolo Tokaji Aszu 5 Puttonyos (Furmint, Harslevelu, Muscat)(500 ml): $32 : Distinct, sweet, smooth, nice body
And finally, 2006 Cantina Valle Isarco “Aristos” Kerner: Trentino/Alto Adige: $22: Friuty/sweet nose, light start, not sweet at all on the palate, dynamic finish with minerality at the very end. This is the wine that changed my life.
    Wouldn’t you know it’s a Riesling (crossed with Schiava) : )

Great show. I like the guerilla style tasting right out of the bottles and it’s always fun to see such an enthusiastic guest. You should definitely have him back to Wine Library with that ’04.

is this the first time you have not done the intro line, or is it b/c of the ‘behind the scenes” stylin’?

    great show.

    felt really down to earth.

    Bravo.

  • QOTD: My wine curiousity was piqued with I worked in a grocery store throughout my high school career. I used to re-stock the shelves and always wondered why there were so many varietals. As I became of age (or at least closer to), I sampled numerous bottles and it just wasn’t working with my palate. Almost sad to say that the first bottle that really agreed with me was a bottle of Beaujolais Nouveau. From there, “my pal” (super old school WLTV throwback) has gone crazy.

I really like what the guest said about having to work to enjoy the wine (or at least something like that), because I can totally relate to that.

    Great show.

  • Awesome, the guerrilla style episode is always brilliant, and a this was a nice give-back to a vayniac who is trying to crush it…or roast it, in Steve’s case.
Steve, you were super jazzed up and made the most of your time…is that natural you, you being with GV, or some of that dark roast sumatran firing you up? Good show.

Will take care of the AOTD when I get home.

  • First off LOVED the guest on this show. He is… US… he is that person who is at home who KNOWS they can do better… be bigger…. love life just a little more and most importantly has the chops to make it happen (while understanding he needs to also pay the bills along the way).

I am going to hug like crazy today, that being said my moment when I knew what my life goal is hit when I was 5. It way my 5th bday and I my parents were taking me to Disneyland. During that trip, along with all the disney magic I learned about the art of animation. I like most kids loved to draw… this trip I saw what a stack of drawings could do, it could bring life. I was amazed as I saw an exhibit that showed Walt’s famed animators as they took single drawing after single drawing and produced emotional connections and pure magic.

I am now set to go back to school in the fall, I have been lucky enough to work in the industry for a while, also building up my own business along the way. I have met some of the original 9 old men animators and met many of todays top talent…. with it all I know I will be apart of filmmaking magic at some point that will live past my lifetime. I look back to that trip, to those exhibits and I thank God I was blessed to know my life long love at such an early age.

    Keep CRUSHING IT!

QOTD – Wine – a 2002 pinot noir @ willi’s wine bar in Santa Rosa. Best meal ever. The wine made me laugh out loud it was so perfect with the food

QOTD – coffee – some random bold blend at Starbucks in Portland OR. Drunk black at a business meeting in the shop because I didn’t have time to put in cream and sugar.

both of those drinks were like a light switch turning on and completely changed my perception of wine and coffee.

AOTD will happen in an hour when I get home!
