Awesome episode! Canadian wines seem unique.

What do you think makes them special?

  • Unfortunately I have only seen Canada from the US side of Niagara but going to visit within the next two years. Alexander Valley Cabernet. Don?t know if it was the atmosphere or being we were celebrating a little that evening but Alexander Valley Cabernet 2006 blew me away. I gave it 92.

  • Hey Gary I just wanted to say that I thank you because I have always really liked wine but have really been more of a beer drinker. I recently found out that I might be allergic to wheat gluten. So I am on wine now. I have always been a little wary about it because I really never knew much about it. Thats where you and your show come in. I have a palate for beer and can pick up subtle hints of fruit, but when it come to wine I get Clorox like you got on the Moscato and I get weird smells like candy and now I know after watching your series it is not weird and even you get that. So I love your show and the way it makes me excited about wine. I am a first time commenter and the last wine I had was Xplorador Carmenere and I thought it was acidic but not enough that you couldnt just drink it by its self. It was a medium bodied wine with a smooth finish that got better by the last glass. Should of decanter-ed. Nice fruit under tones, berries I like it alot and would drink again. I would give an 87. Please respond if you can

QOTD: I made up my own questions. Answer #1: the best thing that happened to me this week is that my friend and I were refunded the price of our tickets to the three cancelled Symphony events. Answer #2: Merryvale Beckstoffer Vineyard X 2003, pizza, caponata, Halloween candy, and blueberry cranberry sorbet.
I have not been to Canada since I was about 6 years old. We had very good friends there. I believe they were in Ontario.

QOTD #1: Love Canada – in fact at least once every Summer, and usually twice, I go up to Northwest Ontario to a friends cabin on Pipestone Lake where we fish for walleye, drink great wine, and eat great food in a pristine wilderness setting that can only be found in Canada.

QOTD #2: 2007 Arista Longbow Pinot Noir which I scored 89. Great nose but a little disjointed on the palate.

2006 Chateau de L’ Hospitalet reserve from Languedoc. Liked it, though the rest of my bottles could last min 2 years in my cellar. 87pts (and never been to Canada)

The closest I’ve come to Canada is Cleveland, Ohio, but I dated a super awesome Canadian girl once, who is now a badass lawyer.

QOTD: Last night worked on three bottles with dinner with friends–1)Tamayo Red Blend, 2006, Contra Costa County CA–88+, super smooth blend of 8 varietals, cherry, plum, earth, spice. 2)Anne Amie Pinot Noir 2007, Willamette Valley OR–86, a little lighter than I would’ve liked, but had a pleasant earthy mushroom component that went well with peppercorn crusted tenderloin/mushroom marsala sauce entree. 3) A little toasted as this point, but Clayhouse Vineyard Syrah was my favorite of the three–89+, complex, full bodied, but a little on the sweet side for a bolder syrah, I’ll finish that bottle off tonight after work and see how it holds up with a clear head.

QOTD: Canada is nice and Canadians are nice when they are in Canada. Here in way South Florida, they’re haughty and rude. Also, although they are aware tips are not included is US restaurant/bar bills, they rarely tip and if so at an insulting level. Toronto is a great city for mongers

  • Love Toronto, but have not been there for many years

last wine (wine currently drinking) San Pedro de Yacochuya 2003. Awesome Cab/Malbec blend from Cafayate, Argentina with a little help from Michel Rolland. 16% After tasting this wine, was one of the reasons I travelled there few years back……Give it a 95+. Okay, maybe I am a little more generous than Gary.

  • I don’t know anything about Canada.

I’m drinking an 05 Marco Felluga Tocai Friuliano from the Collio area of Friuli.

For the price point, this wine is pretty meh. About $24, which ought to deliver a solid 86-90 pt experience imo. Definitely underperforming here. I’d rate this one an 81+ with an emphatic pass.

Nice show Gary. It’s always nice when you express your love for us. “I miss you guys” connects very well. Congrats on your CrushIt success.

  • Grew up in Toronto, but moved north to Orillia in 96 great city to visit.
Tasted a 2007 Symmetry Old Vines Foch (Hybrid) from Kittling Ridge found it very tasty and would rate around an 85. we tasted others while we were at the winery today but we purchased the above. Kittling Ridge is also a big producer of Whiskey.
You do look a little tired get a good nights sleep.
    Cheers
