Hey Gary, I really love these episodes. Shows you are giving 110% all the time, taping shows while on the road whenever possible. I’m trying to leave comments as you requested, because I’m a lurker in the sense that I watch on TiVo. That means I get the shows up to a week (or more) late sometimes, and after I watch, I have to make a point to log on here and leave a comment the next time I’m online.

I’m hoping to meet you at WLTV this weekend, or at your book signing in Paramus which is closer to home for me.

QOTD – I rarely fly and when I do, I don’t like to drink…so no stories to tell.

  • Nice….I like airports…..but no Presidents Club Homey??

I just got back form San Juan and I had a Duckhorn Merlot in the Presidents Club at Continental and I must say, although all the wine is free except the special ones, they do have a very good selection of premium wines. And it does make you want to pay for them and pass up the free ones. I once sat at a Presidents Club in Houston waiting for my connecting flight I missed and had 6 glasses. Talk about hitting the runway sleeping….I was out before they closed the cabin door. The Valium I took before I missed the first plane didin’t help. Needless to say I avoid connections at all costs.

Unlike Randi I’m no so responsible….lol

You have to do a Presidents Club show…they have some high end wines!!!

In an airport I would have to say the Northwest World Clubs. They were the only clubs in the U.S. that had a self service bar and I always seemed to have a REALLY good flight after visiting that place….

Since Gary doesn’t want to do a show MOTT! should bring out a Giants spit bucket and fill in for him. His palate has to be improving after all the wines he gets to taste on the show.

QOTD: I think I had wine once with a meal at the airport. Not a memorable experience. I usually stay away from alcoholic beverages at the airport as I take Lorazepam on the plane and when added to alcohol it makes one pretty drowsy.

  • Best wine in an airport bar? Sake at the sushi bar in the Detroit airport. I eat Chirashi there and wash it down with sake about once a month while hopping between my nuclear reactors in the northeast and deep south. Probably the best airport sushi east of the Mississippi.

I know there were some negative comments about this show, but coming from a nuclear road whore with thousands of hours in airport bars, I appreciate your effort!

    Peace!

  • Should we give MikePos right or GV a break (hustling books instead of winereviews). Well I don’t know. I’m for doing stuff, but I noticed that if I do to much of everything, everything suffers. Focus is always needed to make it happen, with passion, and being happy for real.

QOTD: I was at the Chicago Airport, i had about 3 hours before my flight, so i sat in a bar. The bartender, a girl, wasn’t looking to happy. I ordered a white russian, and knowing it was at the airport, i figured it would be more expensive than usual, so i pulled out a ten, thinking it would be about 8$. The bartender said 11.50$. and i let out a little cough. i rounded up some more money and placed it on the counter. I picked up my drink, took a sip, put it back down and said, “how much to add vodka into it?” she glared at me and said, “no good?”, i shook my head. She reached behind and grabbed a bottle and slammed it down on the table and said, “help yourself!” then she left, right out of the bar. I looked at the bottle in front of me which read, “Gordon’s” and shrugged my shoulders. I noticed the money still on the counter, and while getting up as nonchalantly as i could with eyes watching all around, i grabbed the money and murmured, “ha, they’re using Gordon’s, take it or leave it,” and walked out.

The best airport wine drinking experience has to have been at PDX (Portland,OR). Though it is not there anymore, the airport had a very nice wine bar for a while. The list was obviously focused on Oregon wines, but had nice representation of California and Washington wines. It is a shame that it is no longer in business.

QOTD – I had a wonderful wine experience when I lived in Phoenix. I took a wine class from a wine writer and he brought out a large variety of high end Napa cabernets for us to try. He also did a high end champagne tasting that was memorable.

Dude, these last few shows have really been lame. Perhaps we would all be better if you waited for the book tour to end before adding more content.

  • QOTD: At an airport? I hate airports. I think I sat at an airport bar and drank a couple of Bloody Mary’s once, but that’s about it for drinking experiences.

I recently was in a Commorata & Berardi wine cellar in Bergen County, NJ. Commorata & Berardi are the premier designers and builders of luxury custom homes in the New York Metro area. No one designs and builds wine cellars like these guys. Gary you should try to do an episode in one of their wine cellars. http://www.commorata-berardi.com

  • QOTD: Best drink at an airport – draft Denver Coors so fresh someone just got back from bringing a keg from the brewery a few miles away. Sadly they only have Coors light on draft now at the Denver airport.

Coolest drink was on the plane, first time in business class and the stewardess remembered my double scotch when she brought an unsolicited second round.

Worst wine on a plane, I was not even drinking it but also in business class the stewardess spilled someone else’s wine on my laptop and I ended up needing a new motherboard!

  • Hey Gary,

What the heck man, no new episodes since Nov 3rd? It’s almost been a week.
The last time you didn’t post for a week was when Lizzy had the baby.
    I hope everything is ok.
I know you’re busy with your book tour, but keep your fans happy, how about another plane/hotel episode?

What was up w/ that guy???? That was friggin’ hysterical. First he just barges into the episode. You are very gracious…..then….finally….after seeing that he’s going to continue on and on, you point out that you’re filming an Episode….but no effect…he just droned on. Then, you tried to shake his hand to end it…..but no effect..her droned on. Then you handed him the book to end it….he simply took the book and put it down on the table….and, of course…droned on. Finally, you had to kick him off camera. Friggin’ classic!!! 🙂
