line of the day – ‘Is it like, communism, for you in your mind’

Not the greatest chemistry between GV and the guest but that was mainly down to the slow, deliberate way the guest answered many of the questions. What he did do well, however, was to prize some quite personal reflections from Gary, and that doesn’t happen too often

What a great guy! It was a pleasure watching today’s show.

QOTD. I’ll be in London visiting friends, so not sure what we will do that night. Maybe an Indian restaurant and an India Pale Ale?

QOTD2. Love magnums. We are going to a party on the 12th where every person brings a magnum and I have a nice theme for my wife and I. I’d have more if they weren’t such a pain to store. They just take so much more space than two bottles would since they don’t fit in racks and all that.

And I almost forgot, the Vouvrays from Domaine du Viking are just AWESOME! I’m sure that was an off bottle. I still remember the 2002 Tendre we had recently and it was SPECTACULAR! Just enough sweetness but that acidity! And they really age well. I have some of that 2005 pending shipment from WL because of the weather, but I’m looking forward to receiving it.

  • Unbelievable… I was watching this episode with a co-worker who had never seen Wine Library TV before and her first observation was “That dude needs to shut up! He asks his guest a question, doesn’t let him answer and talks over him.” This ain’t coming from me Gary, it is coming from one of the sharpest keen observers I know. TAKE A BREATH!

Big time interuptions during part of the show. Reel it in a little after asking a question. You answered most of the questions you asked.

    Interesting guest.
Reisling without acidity is like a day without sunshine.

I also believe that a point system scoring is a good thing, although sometimes too much is made of it. While I have purchased many wines based on description or direct tasting that had no rating, as a consumer I find them helpful in making decisions when were talking $$$ or am looking at a region I have no parameters for. French wine in particular I am still learning about, so I would factor ratings into a purchasing decision.

QOTD #1: already replied to the question on the previous episode. The point debate would have been a better question.

QOTD #2: no magnums for me…and not in the forseeable future.

Speaking of ratings, GV, what do you thing of the WS top 100 for 09?
It seems crazy to me that a 99 point wine is only #8.

  • Dr. Vino – definitely top quality wine blogging goin’ on here. Keep up the great work Tyler! And I think he’s great in front of the camera – very authentic.

We don’t celebrate Thanksgiving in Germany but if we did I’d go with a CAVA Brut Nature Gran Reserva… an echo in regards to Catavino’s Q of the day on Twitter.

    Keep on keepin’ ON!

    QOTD:
since we don’t celebrate Thanksgiving in this country I will say that whatever wine we have on Sunday, we’ll report back to you… No, it probably won’t be a magnum.

QOTD: Don’t know, almost in panic mode about it!

Maybe I’ll make my decision at the San Diego Bay Wine and Food Festival, which I will be attending in…oh, 30 minutes. Bummed you’re not gonna be there, GV!

Great episode. I enjoyed the interview of Dr. Vino. I am not serving magnum to 4 adults, but it sounds like an interesting idea if one has many guests. Will probably serve whatever is in the Secret Pack.

  • Hey Guys

Awesome show thanks! I love the Dr Vinho’s work and checkout his site quite regularily!

QOTD: No Thanks Giving in Hong Kong, but I do love a magnum or two when I get the chance, especially in a matter atmosphere.

    Cheers
