QOTD= Yes it does mean quite a bit to me, however, only when I am looking in the $20 dollar and up catagory. Great guest today keep up the good work at Gun Bun…………ps. I’m still a little pissed about not shipping to Oklahoma but I’m starting to get over it

Jeff is a cool guy. Reminds me of a guy I used to work with.

QOTD: The Estate distinction does matter to me, but only if I have had a bottle of it in the past. The quality of estate bottlings seem to be a little more consistent.

    Great guest – good finish

QOTD: can’t say I have ever paid attention to this part of the label. As you pointed out it is not highlighted very well. I just care if it tastes good.

Estate bottled or estate grown? What is the difference? I think both are good indicators of quality in most cases.

    Great show guys!

QOTD: Not really, I would consider it to be (although now I know legally what it means) meaningless and just a marketing label. I will now bear it in mind though when looking at bottles on the shelves. I think Gary’s idea is great and one that could really take off.

    Thanks for all the knowledge!

Good guest. Having wine makers on the show is the next best thing to blind tastings. Keep them coming.
QOTD: Good wine is good wine regardless. That being said, Estate Grown offers some geek appeal and some authenticity. Estate can be more exciting. Even if the wine isn’t necessarily more enjoyable.

Also, just reading the other comments I really can’t understand why everyone else seems to disregard your interviewing skills? It’s fine, surely the shows about interaction and that’s what happens. If you didn’t move the pace on and interrupt people we’d be sat here for three hours, interesting but too much really. I think we should start a Give Gary a Break group. (Do you have Kit Kats in the US?

Nice two-parter. Jeff is a good guy, obviously knows his stuff, and was really pleasant and entertaining. Maybe not the number one guest, but he’s a 90-pointer.

QOTD: Estate doesn’t mean diddly unless it is a good estate. I’ve had estate wines from near where I live in North Carolina that absolutely suck. Alternatively, I’ve had negociant wines from Napa that are the bomb. On the other hand, as others point out, if it is a winery with a long-standing reputation, “estate” can have some meaning. Personally, I think the size is right on the label. On an expensive bottle, some wine nerd will read the whole thing and know what he’s holding. On a daily-level wine, it doesn’t matter anyway.

Oh, and about the Gundlach-Bundshu website: Please lose the PDFs. Just post your stuff on a regular web page and format it so it prints right if someone needs to print it. That’s what style sheets are for. PDFs are user-hostile and the lazy way to put stuff on the web.
