GV on good form, super-pumped for thanksgiving. Nice little Kris Jenkins reference as well.

I’m bummed I didn’t purchase these. Oh, well, next year. Great episode Gary. Hope you and your family had a great Thanksgiving.

QOTD: I’m thankful for trials. I know. Sounds weird. I have had a really rough year, but I truly believe the trials reveal our character and help us grow. Through the trials, we can appreciate all that is good in this life.

Qotd- I am thankful for chances. This is something very unlike “me” to say. I have been in the doldrums lately. With some persistance and hope and dumb luck … Life can be good.

I wish you all happy holidays.

    Gary,

This is a follow up to my previous post so I can comment on the Primitivo. But I want to make a suggestion first. Almost every book that I’ve read suggests an American wine for Thanksgiving. It is, after all, *the* all-American holiday. So I’d like to suggest that in future, you include at least one bottle from the good ol’ U.S. of A. 🙂 Just my $0.02.

Now, about the Primitivo…two words: OLD WORLD. 🙂 I breathed it for an hour before we started eating, but I had my last sip of it almost 3 hours later and I think that last sip was the best. So maybe I didn’t let it breathe enough? But at the end of the day, this wine is what I would have loved 10 – 15 years ago but my palate has changed. Now I want more fruit and less of the acid and vegetal component you mentioned.

Wednesday evening we shared a bottle of Campo Burgo Crianza 2005 Rioja and it was one of the best bottles I’ve had in quite some time. For me, it had the perfect balance of acid and fruit and a long and wonderful finish. The Primitivo, while good and obviously well made, didn’t have enough fruit for my particular palate.

  • Had the Primitivo 3 times already and while I liked the wine-Clearly – I drank 3 bottles – To me it had little old world qualities and tasted nothing like any other Primitivos I have had before-Really had no pepper or spice tones- Again I liked it a lot but never would have pegged it as a Primitivo or a zin-
