    Enjoyed the conversation! Great Episode!

QOTD: Didn’t start out in Napa, but I’ve visited there 2 or 3 times. Wines and tastings are somewhat over-priced but it is beautiful and there are a lot of great wines made there. It’s not my first region of choice, but I am influenced somewhat if I know the wine is from Napa. As far as CA and the U.S. is concerned I love Sonoma, Paso Robles, Sierra Foothills and Oregon. Lesser known regions and small-family owned wineries.

Side Question: No I didn’t shop for a Napa wine for Thanksgiving.

This was a fabulous two-parter! Maybe the best wine-nerdy show ever. Great guest who was clearly not intimidated by you, nor you by him (of course). You both played off each other incredibly well. You gotta have this guy back sometime.

Side comment: I have specifically asked for Napa Cabernet before. I don’t do that anymore though. See below.

QOTD: I only started to like wine at all in the early 90’s, when my wife and I moved next to the Napa valley. It turns out that the reason I didn’t like wine was that I wasn’t having GOOD wine. I discovered then that I have expensive taste. Unfortunately, my budget doesn’t keep up with my taste, and although I could afford them back in the day when I lived near the Valley, now most Napa wines are outside my price range. Part of the reason I’ve geeked up about wine is to discover the decent wines that don’t kill my budget. Napa can certainly produce some great stuff. I still enjoy it when someone else is buying, and I do have a couple special Napa bottles laying down in my cellar.

I agree with Gary in regards to Napa’s hype and the effect various forms of media have on the overall consumption of wine. In my opinion, The majority of wine consuming public unfortunatly do not go out and activly search for wines they enjoy via tasting or online/printed media reaserch. That being said, I am a sucker for a good Napa Cab, and perhaps always will be.

QOTD: I dabbled in Napa wines early in my wine drinking beginings, but have found that the bulk of them are not all they are stacked up to be. In addition I have found that a lot of the grapes that are not estate grown are from the central valley. Which means I am paying top dollar for something I could be getting in Lodi, Paso Robles or Amador for nearly 100% less. Maybe I am baised, but that is not sound purchasing practice.

Great episode! Love the info and the nerd banter!!! Enjoyed the two-parter!

    GV QOTD: No on Napa

QOTD: Yes I visited there 4 years ago and fell in love…then I started to travel to different countries through wine and found a whole different world out there. I’m not a big oak fan anymore so hence I don’t buy Napa wines too much these days. But I wouldn’t pay those prices so I stopped looking at them But if someone offered me a glass of Cakebread I’d take it because the memories attached! I like wines from Central CALI more and will look for something from that region before Napa!

There are many as and more agregious decisions in boxing every year. What made the Hagler / Leonard decision so offensive was that (as history has borne) Hagler was a great boxer/fighter and a man of substance (Chapallett Cab every year)and Leonard was and is…..a winery/brand rushing to produce a Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir and in 2 years will switch to their passion being Chilean Torrontes if that suits the current trend. THAT is what made that decision/fix so unpalatable!! LOU
