For all his “trust your own ‘pal’ ” talk, GV cant stand it when someone else’s palate is different from his own.

  • Great Episode. You guys kind of get along in an interesting way. Bit like Sasha and Gary (but not as extreme.) More of both?

QOTD: Napa? No, I don’t ask for it. Did I start with it? No, I started with Cotes du Rhone and exploded out from there.

Comment #2 (Since I’m a bear of very little brain, and forgot to mention it in Comment #1!….) What a fabulous guest!!! One of the best ever. More! More!

On the other hand, the more than hints about the demise of Winelibrarytv (or at least Gary V’s participation, leave saddened ….. better go sip some good wine….. Wait! I already am!….>)

Being a Northern California native of course I started with Napa. My palette has changed to more of an old world style. However there are some good producers who make balanced wines like Kathy Corison that don’t hit you over the head with big jammy raisiny fruit bombs. Elegance is the key. When in a wine shop I usually shy away from Napa. That said, I still like to visit Napa on weekend getaways…………….

  • Actually, re-watching Sasha, it’s more like a Roman emperor paid a visit. So not quite the same. But a good chemistry here. Should do this again.

Comment #1: Do I ask for Napa when I’m in a wine store…never.

Guest QOTD: Did I start out with Napa…yes. I’m not as stoked about it…not even close. I have a few producers that I love to visit and enjoy their wines when the “Napa mood” hits me…but rarely do I think to myself, “I feel like a Napa____________ wine”

I enjoyed this guest– he has lots to say .

QOTD- I started with Almedan (sonoma?),then Bordeaux within months, then top napa, all within 6 months, 28 years ago. I am back to Napa and bordeaux again, but mix in any other region in the world to keep it from being boring. I’m not bored, but to me Napa and Bordeaux shar the kings throne in the wine kingdom.

  • QOTD: The earliest wines I can remember specific bottles were ’89-’91 Estancia cabs. I’ve spent a lot of time in Napa and Sonoma, and still have a soft spot for wines from there. (But no, I don’t chase their overpriced labels.)

Mike may be my favorite guest ever. You guys were great together.
Gary, instead of stopping the show after #1000 (or whenever), I really think you should keep the show/brand going with a series of guest/temporary hosts, while you pop by to do a show or two every month.
Mike Steinberger should be at the very top of your list of people to consider for guest-hosting.
P.S. Hope to see a long show with your dad soon – how about around the holidays?

What a guest! One of my favorite yet.
Comment: I ask for Oregon wines on occasion but never Napa. I don’t like the power reds so its turned off the entire region for me

QOD: My first wine was an Oregon Pinot Noir. But every time I have a Napa its just got so much alcohol burn its a turn off. Maybe I need to have a more discerning eye /
