‘I’m quite bored by it and I’m almost taking a nap.’

After a couple of bore draws this episode turns up a decisive and surprising winner of the head to head. Makes for a much better show.

Thanks to Gary for this episode!

Frankly speaking, after showing of colour we can understand first wine will be bad.
Really intriguing result when more cheap wine wins more famous competitor.
But may be it is a wind of our time when producers try to make wines which will like to all winedrinkers.
    We will see.

Thanks again for Gary’s efforts into this area. Good luck!

I am fired up that Evening Land won the blind tasting! As an Oregonite from Eugene, there is a local uproar over Evening Land, which is a California based ?project? led by a Hollywood producer who bought 2 vineyards in CA – Occidental (Sonoma) and Odyssey (Santa Rita Hills) and now Seven Springs (Eola-Amity Hills). Seven Springs was owned by Joni Weatherspoon and Al Macdonald who divorced in 2001. Joni owned Seven Springs but passed away 3 years ago. St. Innocent Winery tried to buy the property but prices kept going up, and, in the end, out of the blue, Joni?s kids leased the land for 15 years (with the option to buy) to Evening Land. St. Innocent had been buying Seven Springs grapes since the late 80s along with others such as Bethel Heights, Adelsheim, and Penner-Ash. Evening Land has no intention of selling these grapes to Oregon wineries. And I have NO intention of ever buying an Evening Land wine – they do not embody the true meaning of an Oregon winery. For a great write-up on this sad ordeal, check out the St. Innocent website at http://www.stinnocentwine.com/NewFiles/winemaker7.html

QOTD: I want a i7 iMac? but i’d settle for dinner with the family.

    Maybe some snow too?

Gary V – ok ok…..so you almost fell asleep with the bow frares….but wouldn’t make sense to have another go…another sippy sip before opening the bags? One taste only? It always seems smart to try again in 2-3 mins…pour another ounce in the glass…..and try again. Who’s paying you off? 🙂 p.s. i am burgundy fan so quite used to the sleepy efforts. love da show.

Love these tight 10 minute double blinds. Great stuff!

I want good wine for Christmas, and a decanter. When I tell my wife I want wine for Christmas she scoffs, “What, you’ll just drink it and then it’s gone!” I tell her that is pretty much the idea.

I am glad to are wearing a Springboks jersey! When I went to South Africa in 2000 I had some great wine experiences in Stellenbosch. I still have some the Pinotages aging in my cellar

Great Show… Blinds have to stay! Have not venture into Pinot land so I can’t comment on wines today. What I do know is I hate rolling the dice on high dollar Pinots because when the suck its a train wreck.

QOTD I have everything I need, but I would love a steak dinner at Peter Luger’s in Brooklyn. Best steak in NY, hands down. The family hand picks the beef and dry ages it themselves. Unbelievable stuff. Good wine list too.

This wine comes partially (20%) from the Seven Springs Vineyard in the Eola Hills of Oregon, with the remainder coming from fruit in southern Oregon. Consulting winemaker is none other than Dominique Lafon – yes, that Lafon!

It’s part of Mark Tarlov’s Evening Land project which includes Seven Springs in Oregon, Occidental Coast wines in Sonoma and other projects in the Santa Rita Hills of CA.

It’s a flat out beautiful wine.

great show Gary. BF needs to lower their prices. A basic appellation wine for $45? I don’t get it. Why rest on one’s laurels? Last one I had was the 04 WV. It took forever to open up. Otherwise, it was thin with big acid. Me no likey.

Evening Lands at $25 is a really good deal. All their other stuff is much pricier. Jump on it if you can find it.

    Thanks again GV!

QOTD: Good health. I’m running my first marathon this weekend, and I’d just like to enjoy that experience despite my injuries. I hope you and your family enjoy good health this year and the year to come, Gary. Thank you for being the sunny part of my day 🙂

Awesome and real funny there….amazing! Well, everyone has got their own palates! 😉

I just bought my ticket home before watching the show! I’ll be home for Christmas…and my birthday, together with mom’s big day! Mom’s turning 55 while I’m hitting quarter life soon!

QOTD: I told mom, that I wanted sth memorable and cherishable for 25yrs.
But, outside the box…I was thinking of a Mont Blanc or a cellar fridge for myself.
    What do you think?

    Thanks for the show GV!

  • 2007 was a tough year…the 2007 vintage report from Patricia Green Cellars definitely acknowledged the challenge, but stated that if your vineyard was cared for properly, and you were ready for it, very precise wines could still be produced. They went on to say that 10 years ago, it would have been hard top pull off, but that technology and vineyard management practices could certainly offset the weather to a certain degree. I believe that Ken Wright also said something to the effect that it was the year they’ve been waiting for…to see how well a wine could be made in the face of such a wet year.
    Too bad Beaux Freres.

QOTD: a bit more world peace would be nice…oh, and I’d like to see my Yakima Rattlesnake Syrah clear up in the carboy so that it doesn’t look like today’s loser.

I have yet to taste a single 2007 Oregon Pinot, even my favorite bottlings from Patricia Green, Shea Wine Cellars, Ken Wright, etc, that stands up to even a run of the mill 2006. So I’m not at all surpised.

BTW, based on what I’m hearing from the folks selling futures, the ’08 vintage could be even better. Of course always take that with a grain of salt 😉

Excellent show, thank you! Love the SA Rugby jersey! Blind tastings are always fun.

    QOTD: Better internet connection!

Bonus QOTD: More South African wines! I love your show, but cannot buy any of the wines you discuss. Would LOVE a South African only double blind. (…and not just Pinotage 🙂
