line of the day – ‘seemed a little conservative, then got a little freaky deaky’

GV was convinced that one of these wine was young, and one definitely a little older. They were both from 2004…proving that our leader is human after all.

Yo G! You’ve got a lot of us tapped out of our wine budget.

QOTD. I adore Barolo and have some in my cellar. My absolute favorite one is Elio Grasso, Casa Maté. Great, great, great.

QOTD: The ONLY Italian wine region in which I have stayed (at a winery guest house) and explored the vineyards, so I kind-of have a special love for this region and the Nebbiolo grape! I stayed there in September of ’08, and the most recent Barolo that I had was one of the bottles that I took back from the guest house:
2004 Batasiolo Barolo- still beautifully vibrant on the nose but not yet quite in balance on the palate. The wine’s high acid and bitter tannin make it a great match for fattier or gamy meats (I had it with roasted Duck and pan-seared Lamb on Thanks Giving) but by itself it was a bit too dry on the palate for my guests. Good, but not nearly as good as the bottle of single-vineyard 2000 Barolo by the same producer that is waiting in my wine fridge… Christmas?
