Meh, guests didn’t improve. Not GV’s fault but that’s the way the cookie crumbles

Absolutely awesome guests, I really liked the French guy, Phil, you can tell he knows what he is doing, but very modest and enthusiastic. As I said before, so many burgundies are hit and miss and overpriced.
QOTD#1. Natalie MacLean, read her wonderful book Red, White and Drunk All Over, she is Canada’s greatest wine writer. Sandrine Garbay, Yquem’s golden girl(head winemaker) and Heidi Noble, she and her husband Michael are making the best wine in Canada at Joie winery in Okanagan, BC.
QOTD#2. Dom Perignon 1996, my wife and my first Dom but definitely after that night not our last. I can never understand people who say they don’t like Champagne, definitely some of the best wine in the world. Joel

Just for the books, my vote in that poll- I’m a CKC & I drink wine every day. Too many wines, too little time. I do wish I could try them all.

QOTD1: Probably Heidi Barrett, just because of the legendary wines she’s worked with, again, I wish I could try them all.

QOTD2: Any delicious dessert wine screams sexy to me. The most recent good one I’ve had is the 2003 Chamarré Jurançon

QOTD 1: The lady behind the counter at Framingham winery, Marlborough, New Zealand. They had about 10 wines there, and my friends and I tasted all of them, staying for at least an hour. And she seemed happy to let us partake the whole time, whereas I feel like most winery employees would have hinted to a bunch of poor-ass students to get on our merry way. Luckily, one of us actually bought something.

QOTD 2: Sophomore year of college, my new girlfriend and I (we’re still together, 26 months later) had a bottle of something, I don’t remember what it was. We didn’t have a corkscrew, so I tried to open it with a knife. Bad idea. I ended up plunging the cork straight into the bottle, splashing wine all over the room. But somehow, the whole thing was sexy. We poured the wine into a nalgene and went prowling around different campus buildings in the middle of the night and generally being mischievous (no, get your mind out of the gutter, we had only been together for a couple of weeks). Anyway, the wine was good, the girl was better, and drinking in the college greenhouse was mega sexy.

  • I wish I knew you were in Paris! I could’ve trained up. Glad you tasted a Minervois!

QOTD 1 – Favorite wine lady. My mom.

QOTD 2 – Sexiest wine experience. It feels really awkward answering this because I just talked about my mom. So I’m going to avoid being too racy…But I don’t really have any scandalous stories to tell anyway. I think one of my strongest emotional memories was actually just working alongside this girl during harvest. And before we went out or anything, the tension of working 10-14 hours a day next to somebody in the cold… It was electrifying when we could take a moment in that hardcore work atmosphere to sort of look up and appreciate each other’s presence on this gorgeous vineyard making delicious wine.

    great episode!

QOTD 1 Helen Turley is great. I used to really be into her fruit-bombs.

QOTD 2 Last night! I had been away at my company’s annual meeting, my wife had been away on business. We both got home last night and were so happy to be together again (we’ve only been married 4 months) We opened a nice crianza which my wife was ecstatic about. She’s Chinese and hasn’t been into wine for very long, but she is sure that it was the best bottle of wine that she’s ever had. Nothing could make me happier that to have a night like that! We were both totally excited for various reasons.
