QOTD: Love a nice aged Mahon ( http://gourmetlibrary.com/products/6185-Mahon-4-Month ), haven’t had any with wine yet. Wonder what type of wine would work really well. Maybe a lemony, flinty chablis, or a vibrant garnacha or tempranillo from Spain.

You keep exposing the “good value” places of the world, and no place will be a good value 😉

  • I am having a vision of the future… I see… food parings abound, cheeses, duck salami oh it will be glorious! Seriously Gary, you should set up some kind of a weekly, by weekly food pairing. Call it “hump day” (for Wednesday) food pairing. I loved the format, first the wines, then the wine with the cheese. Keep up the delicious work.

QOTD: There is this brie that I am addicted to that has a name I dare not try and spell, encrusted with herbs perfect with crackers French bread or by itself! Smoked gouda is a good one too.

    Gary,
I’ve been a fan of yours for some time now, and I often wondered why you seldom mention the alcohol content of the wine. As you know it gives you a better understanding of how ripe the grape was, or how sweet, say a riesling is. Keep up the great job of educating us on this wonderfull world of wine!

  • You need to hit the California “Rhone Zone” Gary…otherwise known as Templeton CA. This is the “upper east side NY” of the Paso Robles AVA..well technically the lower Westside of Paso Robles. Some names – Justin, Tablas Creek, Turley (Zin Gods). Tobin James – whose vineyards lie on the hotter eastside, rule thier domain standing out like outlaws surrounded by corporate paso robles wines.
