lines of the day – ‘Mallorca…you could walk it coast to coast if you’re in great shape like Mott’ and (of barging a young Pats fan) ‘I don’t want to be defined by that moment; that was a 65, in other moments I’m a 99’

Very enjoyable episode with really interesting guest (who manages to hang in there despite not having the best grasp of English). GV turning into a very good listener….at last !

  • Patience and being nice 🙂 makes a good show. BUT!
You don’t score wines when guest are on?
Judge someone by first encounter? http://scienceblogs.com/cognitivedaily/2006/05/the_sixsecond_teacher_evaluati.php read this for an eyeopener.

This is where that flag would come in handy… Comments are for constructive discussion, not insulting other people. What you said was deeply offensive.

  • nightfilm

It WAS constructive criticism. It’s obvious that Gary V. received so much negative response to the show that he censored many of the comments. I’ve never had a problem with any of his shows until he put this complete idiot on. The only reason she’s in the wine business is because her parents are in it. Contrast this idiot moron with the likes of Jancis Robinson and therein lies my problem. FY you Mike! Filtering does make for an open, critical dialectic, but rather gives too much power to bowlderizing peckerheads like you.

  • Ahhh Mott, you sly dog.

    happy friday

  • Kris B

Well said Gary. And the beard suits you too. Now bring back Sniffy Sniff McGee!

  • Jay

And some of us will look at getting flagged as an honor. 😉

  • noahnoah

    Gary,

I think that you're doing a wonderful, Great job on WLTV, and to the wine industry.

You're a good looking KGB wine agent.

    Happy Friday

    Go JETS

  • Helen was much better looking than this guest – I guess no material for later

  • benkearney

    I'm in.

Thank God! You transited from that imbecilic bimbo, Laura Buehler, and crossed the proverbial Rubicon to someone actually knowledgeable and astute about wine. I hope you learned your lesson and will never make that potentially fatalistic mistake again and vitiate your otherwise addictive show.

  • BrettFavre

    phew! welcome back.,

  • Ok, I just want to say … excellent show – a tip for Gary, in spanish, two L's together are pronounced as y so it's not MaLorica, it's Mayorca 🙂 (this is from a spanish class I took years ago so if I'm wrong … sorry :))

Long time lurker here – Gary, I am following your New Years wish! As a proud Englishman I am so pleased to see 'soccer' finally feature as QOTD. Miquelangel – Barca are a fine side, but should you not be following Real Mallorca, where is the devotion to your local team man? 😉

Great show by the way – back on form Gary V.

  • DasNOOB

    GO JETS BABY!!!!!!!!!!

  • Viggo21

    Thank GAWD!

  • Great Show!

  • patheticwinegroupie

Great guest, I loved his passion for wine. Gary you have to get in the second wine it sounded right up my alley.

  • Phredd3

Nice episode. Glad to see things back on form. If I may give some constructive criticism: Let a non-native English speaker have plenty of time to find the words. It is tempting to jump in there to fill the void, but just let them have the time to think it out. Also, use fewer colloquialisms. You did fine most of the time, but take extra care to allow for someone not completely comfortable in the language.

Great show overall, though. The An/2 sounds really intriguing. Would love to see you find a few parcels of that for WL (or Cindy).

  • Braden G

Great show GV and a very interesting guest. I will try to seek some of these wines out in order to continue to try new grapes from new places.

  • Cowboys gonna win big??? WHAT!?!?! I gotta admit, in “The Year of the Tight End”, the Cowboys have a real nice Tight End.

    That's what she said…

  • BradleyP

You had to go and mention Texas today! I am down after the Frogs and the Horns losing this week. I will still argue that they are the better teams. Excited for the new year with WLTV, Gary! Go Cowboys! I am cool with it being the Boys and the Jets!! Great show.

  • sonomaK

What happened to shorter shows of 10-15 minutes of wine tasting? As interesting as your guest may be, I don't have the time………

  • missatiejacket

great show, great guest! It's always interesting to learn about a wine producing region with which I am not familiar. Thanks.

  • carlo10

QOTD: me gusta Barca MUCHO!!!!!! thierry henry is on my bad side right now for what he did to ireland, but other than that they are a great side and always put on a good show.

For everyone bashing the girl the other day, why not take Gary's philosophy of trying every type of wine out there and extend it to these shows. She is just another one of the producers out there and I think it is good to get every possible view point.

    Sniffy sniff doesn?t translate?

I love how biodynamical and ?organic? is just the way it should be. Great point. Gary, can I run through a Mediterranean forest with you?

  • Igor

Great come back Gary. Soccer is a girls game try rugby union.

  • philoxera

QOTD: Ireland Fan says Barca striker Tierry Henry sucks…..Barca are ok …better than Real Madrid!
    Good Guest GV as usual!!!!!!!

  • Rob

Very interesting guest;passionate. Love his ideas on the use of the word “organic”. It's great to find out more about grapes that I have never even heard of; will try to find these wines. Good luck to your Jets (i'm a firm believer in the power of the Playoff Beard), my beloved Skins are once again watching at home.

  • Very well handled statement to start the show.

Even better guest. I'm far from the first to comment on this episode and I haven't gone through and read the previous comments, but he is the type of guest that is loved on WLTV. Passionate, thoughtful, and (to a certain degree) educational. You can tell he loves what he does. It doesn't hurt that he has a rad accent.

QOTD: I got to see Barcelona play against the Sounders in Seattle (I will never call them Sounders FC as they want everyone to, because if you can't hang with a real “FC”, you can't call yourself one. It's soccer in America.). Let's just say that they put the entire MLS in it's place. Really, they made the Sounders look like they were high school kids. It was fun to watch real soccer players.

  • laurieinvt

QOTD: The greatest team in La Liga and possibly in Europe! Thank you for a QOTD about real football! ;D

Also, thanks for a fun show!

  • manonthemoon

Much better than the last show.

QOTD: No one cares about soccer.

  • NY Pete

    what is going on?

  • Laurie in VT

Oh yeah, I like the new comments format. And yes, Thierry Henry was a complete jerk- but he is not the team. (Though if he keeps that crap up, he shouldn't be on the team IMHO)

Is there a way to allow replying to someone after it’s been nested 5 times? Looks like it turns off reply after that.

  • XpensiveWino

Well Vayniacs you wanted geeked up, you got it! Great episode Gary, can't wait to go out and try some Callet….if I can find it.

QOTD: Don't watch Soccer, although if I did, I would most certainly sleep more.

    Jets 24
    Bungles 10

Watch out for the Chiefs Gary, major hire today, with another on the way!

  • Anonymous

    Wow. You’re a nice person.

  • Dr_Funkenstein

I like how GV made such a big fuss about going back to the old school in 2010, less guests etc, and the first two episodes of the new year are guest episodes.

    ::yawn::

  • JonathanAlfaro

Fantastic show Gary!!! I would love to try these wines. Are you going to make these available through WL any time soon?

QOTD: Sorry, don't really follow futbol!

  • CharlieTN

Always fun to learn about regions where I didn't even know vineyards existed. I'll definitely keep an eye out for Anima Negra, especially the An/2.

Gary–In light of what you said about the insanity of having to review and rate wines in an instant: sometime soon you should do a blind tasting of several randomly selected wines that you've reviewed on the Thunder Show before. Same vintage and all. Then see how your scores in this instant compare to the last time you reviewed them. Yeah, they might have changed due to aging, but that's part of the point, right? It would be very cool.

  • back to a quality guest……. Person knows about the wine he brought. Maybe we don't like the guests who don't know about the wine. I like the Jets given the points. 17 Cincy vs 15 Jets. The Eagles to win, Eagles 27 cowboys 17.

  • RANDINTHECITY

    GARY!!!
    Miguel!

Well said Gary..I think I'd still be afraid to be a guest..lol 😉

QOTD: I dont know about Barcelona Football..but I know about Barcelona!! LOL And I LOVE Barcelona…does that count? 🙂

    xo

  • john__j

    qotd: they're fine I guess.
Stellar episode Gary. Loved Miquelangel, & his philosophy as a winemaker. Especially how he doesn't use biodynamic winemaking as a marketing ploy. And Mallorca!, my fav episodes are always when you show wines/varietals/regions, that are barely talked about. Anything new that we are turned on to is fantastic.
You keep showing us stuff you havent before Gary, and eventually you'll have to get around to having a vin jaune on the show.
Whether they like it or not.:)

  • allanj

Great Show & Great Guest! Qotd: ??
But The Beatles Will Always Be Better Than Lady Gaga Though. Not Saying That It's The Same Way With Wine… : )
I Am Currently Enjoying A 2010 Coca Cola… It's A Bit Fakey Fake On The Nose. Tastes OK.
Go J-e-t-s!!! See You Soon Gary V

  • DFproGV

FUN show. He's a real character and clearly passionate about what he's doing. Great guest.

  • Gary, out of all your shows, I think I've only watched a few minutes of a few episodes (just to get an idea of what you do). I'm not a big wine drinker, just a guy from Los Angeles, CA with a passion for business and building brands. After just learning about your book and who you are just a month ago, and after spending litterally three days straight watching all your other speaking engagements, videos, keynotes on the internet etc. I can't begin to tell you how much of an inspiration you've been. Please keep doing what you do. Much love! Huge FAN ~ Mike
