Good info, nice variety of wines but the guest was a little too laid back and quiet to really knock me out

  • Enjoyed the show. I’m going to keep a look out for the Clai Ottocento crno.

QOTD: Once, but it was a pretty thin and lacking bottle of plavac mali. I’m hoping to try some stuff in the future that I can get behind.

    Cheers,
    Jake

    Chargers!

  • Phredd3

Hey look, Gary really *DID* mean Croatia. Cool.

  • benkearney

QOTD: Never had one. Will look for one.

  • XpensiveWino

Jets have no chance..sorry GV the ride comes to an end.

  • Love the reaction half way through the Ottocento Crno segment. A loss for words!

QOTD: have not had any Croatian wine, but I really want a bottle of the Crno now.

  • YES you still have the beard.

  • Hi all – thank you for your great comments, feedback & support. very heartwarming & appreciated!! one note: ALL the wines shown in this episode are available in the US (it says “Not Available” on screen). the Debit Lucica is imported by Oenocentric (www.oenocentric.com – a division of Fruit of the Vines, Inc.); Clai Ottocento Crno is imported by Louis/Dressner (www.louisdressner.com); and both the Bura Dingac & Enjingi Riesling are imported by http://www.VinumUSA.com. Let us know if you need help finding them! Zhivili!! 🙂

    top 10?

  • philoxera

Never came across Croatian wines before. I will keep an eye out for it. Nice to come across a New-Old World Wine Region. Jolly Good Show GV!

  • jonnybubbles

I wouldn't ever think to buy Croatian wine – I'd just as soon buy wine from Haiti. Good thing for WLTV, I can get edumacated.

Question for GV – when you're not tasting, do you drink white wine at room temperature?

I think the dynasty in New England may be over. RIP.

  • patheticwinegroupie

What a great guest. I loved the wine nerdy knowledge exposing us to a new area with some greet wines. (that is meant as a big complement).

QOTD: no I have not had any Croatian wines but looking how well these wines did (I would have liked to try all four of them). I will be trying some.

P.S. Gary the Chargers are going to destroy the Jets. You are about to find our how great and under appreciated Phillip Rivers actually is.

  • kylemittskus

    Chargers = Super Bowl Champs!!!!!!!!!

Excellent show. Nerdy, intelligent, well-spoken guest. Nerdy, educational, palate-expanding show. All around awesome.

I have never had a Croatian wine. I suck.

  • ERog

Wow, great show. Mr. Rames clearly brought some strong wines. I felt similar to the way Gary reacted when I visited Paso Robles, which clearly does not get the attention that Napa and Sonoma get. It's really interesting to broaden horizons!

QOTD: I have not had a Croatian wine, but I will see if I can find one soon.

  • drt999

I'm a little sorry he didn't bring in some of the great value-drive Istrian plavic mali or some of the great value-driven whites from the north, but you can't show everything, of course! I'm glad the riesling was there to show of Slovonia!

QOTD — My wife is from Osijek, so we had plenty of wine from Belje, and I've had others as well

Fantastic Show! Qotd: No. This Was A Real Eye-Opener. I Need To Try Some Of These Wines. They Sound Very Nice.
Best Moment: Mott: “It Smells Like Wine”… That Was Classic!!
And Some Serious Linking-Up From The Mottster As Well…
    Can't Wait For Episode 800…
    What Will Happen…………………….?

    🙂 … and the patriots lost … 🙂 … what a great weekend!

  • Wow, Gary, that was a fabulous show. Cliff is a total rock star! The two of you made drinking those wines look like a freakin' good time, which is the best reason I can think of to drink the stuff. I haven't had any Croatian wines before (and I don't think they'll fit into the budget anytime soon), but this show made me want to pop the cork on SOMETHING I haven't had before and see if it's worth getting jazzed up about. Nicely done; optimal guest.

I'm not sure that the beard is your best look, Gary, although it does make you look quite a bit like Vladimir Dmitrievich Nabokov (the author's father). I guess we'll see what its status is tomorrow.

  • Slushpuppy

You have won, and I hope you are not done! Great show.
    Smell it first. TR

  • Eyyyy, the Mottster, nice little jab in there. Great show, another great guest. Very informative and different.

QOTD: Never had a Croatian wine, but definitely will keep my eyes peeled.

  • Slushpuppy

  • divyamistry

What an awesome show! Gary, last two shows have been fantabulous! Is it going to be a hat trick? Fingers crossed!

QOTD: Never had Croatian wine, but will be on look out for it in Whole Foods and other wine shops.

  • wayno daa wino

WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOA, Croatian Vino, this utta be Gooooooood!!!!!!!!!! :0)

  • The Mott-ster coming up huge with the “smells like wine.” Wow!

Cool wines. Hoping to be able to find that second one at the Whole Foods near me. Could be tough.

QOTD: Never had one but had a great conversation with a guy in the tasting room where I work about Croatian wines. He was HUGE on them.

  • Dan Caragher

    GV –

You still have your beard…congrats! Great show, best one of the year! Keep em' coming, I like to dualing interest coming from both of you, rather than just the guest!

QOTD: No Croatian wines, on my list of things to drink!

  • Edward Salonia

    Interesting episode.

    QOTD: Never had.

  • DKBTex

Great Show!!!!! Lots of info… Would love to try one!!!! Don't know where to find one in west TX?????????? Maybe you can get some at WL!!!!
Thanks for all of the help,
    Darryl

  • guymandude

That was informative and intresting, gotta try those.
    qotd; never did but will

I thanked Gary personally but wanted to tell the Vayniacs, meeting Gary the other week was awesome. He is as sincere and genuine in person as he comes across on the show.He hung out with us drinking wine and talking it was a great time. Hopefully you all get a chance to meet him. Thanks again.

  • Kris B

QOTD: I have not tried one but I won't be afraid to when I see one now.

    Bring back Sniffy Sniff McGee.

  • Iowa = Hawkeyes, not Buckeyes, Gary. The more you know.

(Greene is a beast though, ain't he.)

Never had a Croatian wine, but I'd love to, esp. if it's a genuinely interesting grape and not just another Bordeaux blend. Ain't there enough of those in the world?

Are you going to get some in?

  • DFbwp

QOTD: No Croatian wines. I had a Moldovan wine once, and that's all the Slavic experience I have.

Thanks to the guest for a great demonstration of his passion!

  • QOTD: I've never had a Croatian wine but of course I want to try some.

Excellent episode. At times I felt I was watching the low-key, quiet version of Gary next to Gary as Cliff made some very Vaynerchuk tasting notes there. Clearly a man who knows what he's doing and what to bring to taste. Thank you both.

  • NY Pete

at the risk of BP calling me a BLN, great show GV.

  • I have been here a long time…around episode 100 and I have seen a lot of guest but Cliff is no doubt my favorite, this is one person I would love to meet and chat wine with. I have always been a fan of the “nerdy” episodes but this one takes the cake.
I am really hoping they will have some Croatian wine at the Boston Wine Expo because I want to seek out and get my head wrapped around these wines.

    Top 5 🙂

  • RANDINTHECITY

    GARY!!!!
    Cliff!!!

    Great ep.
I was lucky enuff to visit Yugoslavia when I was very young … and have friends who have introduced me to some Croatian wine ..And I DID find and purchase that Plavac Mali wine that was on ur show….loved it.

    xo

  • devils suck!

  • Sludhpuppy where is your Icon?

  • So many of you don't have avatars/icon, fix that now!

  • good episode with a very cool guest.
    QOTD:
I've never had any Croatian wines and have wanted to since like forever…

  • Dan

To all internet explorer users still getting that error. The login buttons above still display and you can still log in. Once logged in the error message no longer displays. This is at least my experience and it may change from person to person.

I do have http://tv.winelibrary.com added as a trusted site as well but i’m not sure if that makes a difference.

  • A dumb Rhein king

FYI Gary and your devs …

I see the warning in IE6, 7, & 8 (first two emulated via Spoon.net). When I sign into my Disqus account it goes away. So, since I can sign in, it is there erroneously. I do not see the message when running the l8est versions of Chrome, Safari, Opera, or my normal browser of Firefox. If it helps, I’m running a 32 bit version of Vista.

  • chefrobertthehappydiabetic

Great guest with lot's of passion. Can't wait to try it with some salmon

  • NY Pete

    ha ha … since when?

  • Did you give the high ratings cause the wines were good or the wines were different?

  • Last two episodes are strong arguments for you abandoning your plan to reduce guest episodes.

    QOTD: not yet.

  • Neil

“Warning: A browser setting is preventing you from logging in. Fix this setting to log in.” Why, Why Why Gary V????? I like new technology but only when it works! QOTD: Never had a Croatian wine – didn't even know they had so many hectares devoted to the vine.

  • jasonmalumed

    Testing avatar…

  • jasonmalumed

This sucks, I can't get that shitty “Warning:…” off. I'm on IE at my house, which blows. Any one with IE care to share how to fix this situation?

  • adrums

Two great shows in a row. Man, Mott: “smells like wine”; you're so spoiled.
QOTD: never had one. the last thing my wallet needs is another region to explore, but…
