I always love these father/son shows, and this one was no disappointment (“it's not bad,” as Sasha would say). Was it just my imagination, or was Sasha trying to stretch the show out so he could finish the plate of bread?

Gary, you should really have your dad on one of the “Cheese Library” shows. The man obviously loves a good cheese plate (as I myself do), and I'd love to see the two of you discuss some gourmet curds along with the vino.

Congratulations to the whole Vaynerchuck clan on the birth of little Max. I wonder how being a grandfather has changed Sasha (most of the men in my family have had a sudden and unexpected mellowing out when they see their first grandchild).

  • lawrenceleichtman

I feel like I'm eavesdropping when you and your dad are on together. He's right, you have to compete with your kids to keep them sharp. Amarone is also my favorite wine but it has to include a lot of Corvina for my tastes.

  • bobbytiger

As Sasha said, that was a relatively quick show…….until we got to the QOTD.
And, after much discussion, I'm still not sure what it is, so I'll pass.
Love your Dad on the show Gary. Always have, always will. Top notch stuff, and very enjoyable to watch.
And, he continues to throw down the food, which is kind of fun to watch. However, I do think he left a little bread.
    No beard for your Pop?

  • Can't wait to read the Sasha's book!
I've never had an Amarone, but I'll be searching for one.

QOTD: I like the rule… however, if you find a delicious 98pt wine for $12.99, please share it with the Vaynernation. kthxbye

  • guymandude

Great show guys! I had a 01 Masi that was a good solid wine just last month .I agree with Sasha, the're one of my favorites.

    Nice job on #800,thanks.

  • gubbiotti

great show gary and sasha. what a great time to do an amerone show. they surely are for cold winter nights. i want some amerone now.
    peace
    congratulations on # 800!

  • Slushpuppy

Give me some of that good old fashioned Mogan David!
    Smell it first. TR
P.s. I'm still waiting to see your back yard Sasha!

  • SourGrapesFC

of course it's “Sasha and Gary”: the straight man always gets top billing (Martin and Lewis, etc.).

  • SwanReachRoad

GV, when do we get the episode from Sasha's cellar?

  • Not sure about everyone else, but I'm loving the new comments layout.

  • Michael

I love your dad! He has no regards for the routine of the show, but you just got to go along with the ride!

  • tflangan

Was there a QOTD? If there was, I missed it. GBU Sasha.

  • wayno da wino

WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOA, daa SASH-STER & Amarone in daa HIIIIZZZZZYYYY!!!!!!!
    This otta be Goooooooood!!!!!!! :0)

  • Sorry My man we will do better for 801 and beyond

  • Cool_Dave

Gary and Sasha, congatulations on the new little Max.
Awesome and I mean Awesome show. Keep mixing it up!
I cant wait to try an amarone. I have a sangiovesse (La Tore — Rosso di Toscano) as my first Itallian outside of Chianti.
QOTD — Gary, I'm with you. I know this is why you are not on Food Network. You are honest! You and Apple computer seem to be the only ones who get it. Focus on the customer, product quality and the bottom line will take care of its self.
    Nostrovia!

  • Doug From New Orleans

Great show! Love Amarone, it was nice for you to be able to share your 800th show with your dad.
Thanks! My wife loves your dad!

  • happy 800th GV, Mr. SV, Mott, etc.! your foresight to assess the impact of the internet and changing your business model to be more customer focused are starting to pay off big time. The real reason though that you are getting success is the fact that you genuinely care, and other wine lovers and newcomers can see/sense that. That sounded too kiss ass, so I'm gonna end with “that smells like wine”….what the hell man….

Was that the elevator that I kept hearing in the background? I love that elevator when I'm walking around with the cart, though I know better now to just order online then pick my stuff up…. I'm actually curious to try the Tedeschi Amarone, I've never had an Amarone with “sunshine”! Always loved saying Amarone with the “authentic” Italian pronunciation, like saying Corleone~

Mr. SV, I'll buy that book of yours regardless of what it's about, it can be in Russian, I'll still buy it! I've read Dostoyevsky and Tolstoy back in school…bring it! (well, they were English translations….). Actually though, don't make it about politics… One more thing, everytime Mr. SV comes on the show, we hear about how he doesn't eat breakfast and lunch, that's really bad, you should at least eat breakfast!

  • plcb

Pennsylvanians also like Lail. And the Tommasi Amarone for that matter.

The show was a feeding frenzy. I want some wine & cheese.

    Happy 800th

I had to change my comment name with this new format. I used to have a one letter name and this format requires at least 3. I was M before becoming plcb.

  • QOTD: So it's a moot qotd. O.K.

Tiny bit (and I mean tiny) disappointing as I was expecting something big from your Dad & you for episode #800. But it's always enjoyable to watch an episode with the two of you. Congratulations to you both (and your sister/daughter) on Max. Mazel tov!

  • remarkablogger

    Beard looks good man.

  • jeffisrad

I learned about a new wine today, which is always a plus.

QOTD – I was never aware of your rule before, Gary. I think it's a great one. On my end, it doesn't matter. On your end, however, I can see how that rule can save you a lot of grief in terms of ethics. If you did start to break the rule (even within certain limits), it would only open up the floodgates of criticism from the haters (you know who I'm talkin' 'bout). Don't jump the shark, Gary. Stick to your guns.

  • Great show G and SV. Your dad reminds me a lot of my dad. Kind of like a no-bs, not trying to be too fancy, “I like this wine” and period. Congrats on #800 my friend.

QOTD: I wasn't aware of the rule, but I think it's a great way to limit the obvious conflicts of interest that might arise. I don't think I even need to say this, but I will anyway: keep the rule!

  • Tonyt87

The osx Mail ding. Kept making me check my computer here at work.

  • wpggord

Wow, I think I can get the Tommasi up here in Manitoba, Canada for about US$54! The listing on the website is “amarone della valp cl doc tommasi”. I presume that is the same, though I don't know which vintage they have in stock. Who says wines are always priced higher up here? Actually, I normally expect to pay about 50% more than your prices. E.g., if you are showing a wine at US$20 it will probably be about CDN$30 up here *IF* anyone carries it.

  • As always, a great show with Dad. You both have such a wonderful rapport and easy going love between the two of you.

QOTD: Since this question is a “non event” in Gary's eyes it doesn't really matter how we answer? My only subtle “objection” are the times I go to order a wine you adore, it has already “sold out.” More than ten cases, well, better odds not getting that message.

    Cheers!

  • jackdempsey

I'm guessing other's have said it, but “your show, my company” is one of the best lines of WLTV EVER.

  • cellarrat5

Again, congratulations on 800. I think reaching this milestone is enough of an accomplishment, I enjoyed the no frills format of this episode. Your dad is awesome, the banter is classic and I could not think of a better guest for #800. I must admit I do not have much experiance with italian varietals besides Nebiollo, Barbera and most Chiantis. I will be looking for Amarone next trip to the store. That cheese plate looked delectable. PLEASE have more food pairing eps in 2010!! In regards to Molly Dooker, sometimes I just want to get blown out of the water by big ripe blackberry, raspberry, cherry etc!!

QOTD: personally, I would take your scores to heart if I could go out in the store and actually buy the wines you recommended regardless of your stock at WL. If you took more of an informative approach I do not think most of us would mind if you got a few more orders based on your suggestions. After all, you started in the wine business.

  • BuddhaChu

Loved the back-n-forth at the end.

  • Julius

    What? No Allegrini?

  • mattwrench812

Congrats on making it to #800 and your new nephew.

QotD: I wouldn't mind if you reviewed wines with more than 10 cases since it would expand the number of choices you have and we all know you would still review them honestly. However, I do see how this could worry and turn off new viewers in the future.

  • cellarrat5

had to add another comment, finally figured out how to put an Avatar on there, here are some of the new barrels of the 09 stuff we crushed last harvest! 09 was not a bad year at all for us! Congrats again on number 800!!

  • I feel that there is some awesomeness every time Sasha is a guest on WLTV, it may be that there is usually food and no holds barred banter…. cool episode.
The day I first tried an Amarone was also the day I tried Rosa Regale for the first time and remember after three glasses I mixed both of them, it tasted just like a strawberry pie with brandy no kidding.

  • TLUKE

How about a couple of shows for the little guys? Say, less than a case, value plays that get completly overlooked. Big scores for little money. Wines that you've had that you thought were huge compared to price. I'm sure alot of us drink a sixer a week, but can't throw around fifty a bottle.

  • You're dad is totally awesome!

  • Kelly

Love your dad Gary! Congrats on 800.

QOTD I like your rule but let Sasha recommend a wine if he things it is that good.

  • DFbwp

QOTD: That would be fine. I can't buy from WL because I live in a contraband state, so have at it.

Love the vibe of you two guy just chilling. Someday I will post a video on my blog of my son and I. This is the most fun, having a dad and having a son you can spend time with.

  • DFbwp

Yeah, I want to read Sasha's book too. Celebrity memoirs always get me! 8>)

  • What can I say that hasn't been said already, another classic. Congratulations bro on number 800! I raise a toast to the next 800.

  • DAveAll

I don't see the “Mott links” – is this a bug in your new interface? ahhh. dang, the cheese, the cheese. I can't find the cheese.

Cinderella wine is a great offering. thanks for the daily hits.

hogging over cheese and bread was not pretty. QOTD, what? Ghez, is he taking speaking notes from Helen? my gosh. (oh, hate me for stating the truth)

  • Lyman

It's great seeing your dad on the show. You always of to respect a man who's always selling.
One of the many trips I would like to make is to Veneto to experience the process of creating Amarone. Although I'm a west coast guy I'm pulling for the Jets this weekend!

  • JasonGonzales

    The Dad shows are classic.

I think it would be BAD A to have a best of 2009 show. You could recap your favorite wines of 2009 (that you tasted on the show) and talk a little about where you think 2010 is headed.

QOTD: I would like a button, that I click, which informs me when the product I am looking for is back in stock.

  • Sasha shows always enjoyable…love the father/son back and forth. Not much experience with Amarone… hoping for a good Cindy deal one of these days.

QOTD: Right move not to review wines that you are heavy up on for obvious reasons. But i would make exceptions if the wine(s) are for whatever reason in the spotlight…. the world would want to know what gv thinks… ok maybe not the world, but somebody.

  • marc_chinawinetours

Good show GV..always enjoy Sasha. Does he REALLY have a book coming out? Will it tell all your dark secrets?

  • gotsha

    GV,

Thanks for all 800! I didn't know about the 10 case rule. Gotta respect the heck out of that.

  • sashanyc

    Congrats on 800!
Love the facial expressions from Sasha. Never had an Amarone.. going on my list.

    QOTD: Agree with you Gary

  • chefrobertthehappydiabetic

    Great show, great info

  • allannieb

Dude, your dad is hilarious. As soon as the cheese and bread showed up your dad was straight munchin'. Awesome stuff. I too have never tried Amarone, but I'm intrigued by it. Awesome show. I'm a Pats fan, through and through…last week was a sorry excuse for a football game. HATE the Colts, Ravens, Chargers…pulling for the Jets in the AFC. Also, your keynotes have woken me up.

    Cheers,
    Allan

  • notTheFalseD

Thanks Gary & Sasha (???????? & ??????????) for a great, laid-back episode. Almost felt like I was sitting there and tasting the wine with you guys. Except I was having cereal…

I have yet to taste an Amarone. (And a whole bunch of other stuff, too. Quite a novice I still am…) I ought to try to get the Tommasi though. GV and Sasha liked it, and I recall very much enjoying a 2004 Valpolicella Ripasso from Tommasi. On a related note, I've also got a bottle of 1993 Santa Sofia Amarone that's waiting to be opened, and I can't seem to get decisive enough to pop the cork. Probably afraid to be disappointed – bought it for $45, which, to me, seemed suspiciously low for a 16 year old Amarone. (Could it be a fake? Had no DOC label…) Either way, it was great fun watching the episode, and I'm excited about experiencing this legendary wine soon.

First time posting, and I would have loved to address the QOTD, but Gary seems to have saved everyone the trouble. Happy 800th, and looking forward to many future ones!

  • looper1313

Sasha steals the show… again. Love that he just sits there and chows down on the bread and cheese. Can the owner of winelibrary please get a raise? at least enough for him to buy some lunch?
    Great job getting to 800!
