  • There 300 wineries in Napa. Over a hundred of them offer tastings for nominal fees. See http://www.napawineproject.com/. Secondly KLwines (local to Bay Area) or Gary’s own club at http://winelibrary.com/Wiz_club.asp offers decent clubs at nominal fees. Good luck…

  • I second that. and go phillies!

Hey John.  I’m in El Cerrito (near Berkeley).  I would to partake in such a thing.  The fee is no problem.  Let me know if you are interested in having someone new and unknown join or we can chat a bit more.  I’m a casual cook, but love both food and wine and, like I said, am trying to explore and expand my pallate.  I’ve hosted a few blind tastings myself and they are so much fun.  Joe

It could happen, but am not betting the cellar on it.

    Joe,

I’ve been watching Gary since the early 100’s episodes. I fully concur with
his taking out the mystique and snobbery stance on wine. I hope that my
bottles are all great QPR’s. I am able to put a lot of research into the
wines I buy and, like most wine lovers, like to share that research.

I have a group of wine drinkers that I sporadically send e-mails to when I
come accross good buys on wines that they have told me that they like. The
group is free. All you have to do is send me an e-mail and I’ll send you a
6 question questionaire that will give me an idea of your preferences. We
have everything from two-buck-chuck drinkers to pinotphyles. The whole idea
is to drink better wine at lower prices. If members find something that
qualifies they e-mail me and I send it to the group. The best buy I’ve
found this month is 2006 Havens Napa Valley Merlot that K & L Wines is
selling for (was $20) $6.99. I’m drinking my first bottle of it now and this
is NOT $6.99 wine. http://www.klwines.com. Havens went out of business a few years
ago and the liquidator went bankrupt so the boittles are selling for around
    35-cents on the dollar.

    Happy drinking,
    John

  • Jimmy I like being BACK!

Not sure we can say we are back yet. We just had two super long shows with guests. I want more solo Gary quick and dirty shows. Give me a week of it and you can say we’re back.

    Brandon, 3 days!!! 😉

how come NY Pete was not already taken???

    GV,
Wanted to thank you for sharing that Brit you had on from InMyMug.com. He gives you great kudos for giving him the idea for his show. He’s very entertaining although I have a rough time understanding him sometimes. I’m into coffee roasting and pick up some good info from him.
I’m trying to get more into Italian and French wines. I’m pretty hooked on the big Cali and Aussie reds though. I’m currently sipping a pretty nice Perrin & Fils 2007 Cotes Du Rhone I picked up at Costco. Will probably pick up some more as it’s only 8 bones. Nice!

Guilty as charged. I learned to love baseball more than 25 years ago listening to the dulcet tones of Dave Niehaus. I still miss hearing him, now that I’m on the wrong coast.

OK, I’m envious. I’m a big sticky fan, and I’ve always wanted to have a sip of the essence. Nice splurge!

I’ve always found Wine Authorities to be very helpful. I find the layout of the store to be a little intimidating, but the people are great and extremely helpful. If you give them some descriptors and a budget, they also are spot on with finding a wine you’ll like. Danny at the Wine Cellar is a first-rate guy, too. His wine selection is small, but Danny is just a guy who likes wine and is happy to sell you some of his.

  • Go Eagles! Whoops…

    Yeeeeehaaaaaaaaw!!!!

  • Steve_T

I'm going to gave to look into that Massolino, I'm fairly sure that one of my local shops has it. $17 is a steal for an Italian red, considering all the junk chianti there is out there. Great show.
My favorite episode of WLTV, episone 734. I love wine, I love cereal, and it aired on my 21st birthday.

    Yeah, I said it.

On my birthday in March I am openning a 1943 Chateau d'Yquem thats been in my possession since 1979 and prior to that in a collegue's cellar since 1950. Contact me if you would like to taste it here in sunny Key West.

  • winorob

Very animated today; what a reaction to the first wine. I do like Dolcetto's quite a bit, especially with pasta-down with Chianti-boring! Jets D crushes the Chargers.

  • wayno da wino

    Avatar…..Avatar……Where are Yeeee, Avatar??????

  • jimmywineguy

First-time commentor here. Been a lurker for about two years. Love how the show has come back to its roots. For a little while there I thought it was about to jump the shark, but you came back to the simple format that got me hooked and watching.

When I first started I didn't know the first thing about wine. I still have a long way to go, but I can now have a conversation on the differences between Loire Valley and NZ sav. blancs…..are you kidding me????

Thanks for all you do for us naive wino's out here. Go Phils!

  • yankee22

Never had a Dolcetto, which leads me to what I most want to say. I'm relatively new to the wine world, love the show, and am looking for a way to taste lots and lots of wine without sacrificing my childrens' college fund. Anyone interested in creating a wine tasting club in the Bay Area? I love all of the blind tastings. Do more!, please.

B…B…B…Benny And The Jets! I Love Wine! I Love Wine More Than I Love Elton John! Nuff Said!
    Bringing The Thunder!
    Yo G, Just Great Man!

  • redvt

“bones” is ok. I hate it when you say “the Detriot Lions are secretly my favorite team of all time”. Yeah, stop saying that GV.

  • Edward Salonia

    Something.

TGIF. Drinking some '05 Emilio Moro Malleolus De Sancho Martin right now.

  • lawrenceleichtman

Thanks for the kick in the pants. I too forget Dolcetto and I make a lot of Italian food. Going out this weekend to buy some. Hope I can find the Aldo as this sounds the best.
Just saying, that beard is gnarly dude, starting to look a bit grubby.

  • allanj

Nice He-Man Figure. I Think I've Had It Once. Yeah!

  • What more can I say….I love this show more then anything on the internets or even regular TV…which I think really sucks to begin with, but that's another topic.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!! See you next weekend Gary and Kristen, Love you guys.

  • NC_Carl

Good show, the Massolino has been a favorite for some time now. We stock that here in NC care of a fantastic distributor. I would say to all, if your local has Massolino, try their Moscato, with a lemon tart, it will blow your mind.

This haiti stuff is really bumming me out, have we texted 90999?

I'm sorry, Rivers is going to take your lunch money. NC State grads gotta unite behind Phil…otherwise what do we have?

  • I love when Lurkers finally come out…nice to read your post Jimmy, hope to see you in here more 😉

  • Loved your reaction to the first wine….. back on track with a good episode.

Can we get Chianti on Monday if the Jets cover? I think the Jets cover 7 points is no respect, especially with split bets.

  • WOW Van…your on the gun today…HAHAHA, have a great weekend bro!!

  • “SAY SOMETHING” 😉

  • drt999

Wow, nothing like putting the pressure on us! I wish more us would post tasting notes on the wines you present over time — get different reactions. If I can taste & post Lion Gris and Eagle Rock (two cabs GV panned), the others can share, too!

  • NY Pete

    Go Devils!

  • ERog

    Nice episode.

My say something… I really excited about Tablas Creek wines since I visited Paso Robles.
And another… I get very irritated with wine stores that over charge for their wines. It drives me to other retailers.

  • NY Pete

btw, who was a ustream no show yesterday?

  • NY Pete

    Chris Mott wasn't …

  • Nice episode. I'm an intermittent Lurker and Commenter. Sometimes you ask a question that gets me to come out, or an episode really piques my interest, and I'll crawl out of the woodwork for a week or so.

QOTD – I'm a Cardiothoracic Anesthesiologist and Critical Care Physician who watches WLTV religiously. I missed your visit to St. Louis because I was on call (I tried to get someone to cover me, but no dice). Because of your show, my cellar is growing, my palate is expanding, and I'm working on branding my fellowship program as the best in the country. I'm trying to bring the ideas of “content” and “social media” to the world of medicine.

Thanks for giving a s*** about the Vayner Nation.

  • NY Pete

    … but I love u guys …

  • kylemittskus

Chargers are going to win. I like the Jets, but I love the Chargers. Sorry GV. Your fairytale season is OVER! And you too NY Pete.

  • Good show. I'm a big fan of the little sweet one.

Non-QOTD: Any other Mariner fans in here? I've got some serious hight hopes this year and I want to be able to share the highs and lows of the loooong MLB season with some (or all) of the Vaynernation.
