line of the day – ‘I reckon one day we’re going to have rock juice, because we want minerality in our bodies’

I actually laughed out loud at 17.21 – let’s face it, Gary is a funny guy

GARY, good to see you back big guy. don't listen to the jackasses talking smack. just do your thing. if you don't your show will look like it was designed by a committee!
qotd 1 – i cannot count the amount of alsatian riesling i have consumed…. a lot!
    QOTD 2 – i have a few
I love victory pig pizza with coke from a glass bottle
whole milk with cake ( any cake )

  • philct

Mott back in action with the 85 point camera swing!! Nicely done!!!
We're really into the Rieslings lately.. Clean wines, and love the dry ones that taste like rock for sure!! May even try the “pop-star”

  • Domdomi

Always a pleasure watching you on my computer
Anyway, sorry for my many mistakes and my poor english, what i really enjoy is drinking oldest sinle malt with chocolate cake, the complexity of the malt combine with the bitterness of very dark chocolate is for my a very good association .
For your episode , riesling is a fantastic grappe, i'm not aggre with you regarding Schlumberger, is not too bad, but so short and the balance with acidity and citrus fruit is not for me an example, but for the value is OK
I never tasted Leon Neyer ……… as soon as possible.
PS I owner of a wine cellar in Bordeaux and is a so relaxing time to watching your show, what véry refreshing for me to see people like you JUST enjoy the wine, (You know in Bordeaux drinking is like a wedding celebration with all the bla bla, for me is so mutch serious AND BORING TIME and i can imagine the face of some Pope of the wine in Bordeaux see you tasted Lynch Bages 96 in front off a road, with a windy and snowy weather and spit as a bad boy on the snow) … i laughting again .If you move to Bordeaux, it 'ill be a real pleasure to meet you on my store and open some good bottles . Good luck for the rest .

  • Hey Gary,

Love the wines from Alsace – Had a Pinot Blanc from there not to long ago and it tasted like burre bosce pears…soo nice. I've only had one riesling from Alsace but it was a long time ago.
Another well made show today Gary. Love the cheese and wine pairing at the end.

qotd…..PowerAde and Mars Bar – Love it!!!

QOTD: I love beer from Lithuania “Svyturys”
    http://www.svyturys.lt

  • QOTD: Fresh Ground Coffee with Thai-Hot, Pad-Kee-Mao/Drunken Noodles. There is something that works so well between coffee and very spicy food, in particular the Asian-pepper spiciness. The coffee for this shouldn't be dark roasted but instead a medium bodied Colombian or even better, Heaven.

I love Alsace!!!!!!!! I've enjoyed many many wines from Alsace. In 1996 my husband and I visited Alsace. Love it. Love it.

QOTD: When I wake up, coffee with breakfast is my favorite. With football game snacks, a Samuel Adams beer is a favorite. With lunch, water is my favorite. Let's sing. These are a few of my favorite things…..

    PA sells Leon Beyer wines.

  • Lived in Annapolis for a time and YEA! Verily! Stout and Crabs…that's a combo to keep. Fells Point…ah fond memories of getting drunk and falling in the harbor after an extended session in Fells Point.

  • thank u so so much DomDomi 🙂

    Go Bears

  • Agree and love your handle. I actually collect antique corkscrews.

  • The store looks nice, will definitely try to visit. We are 6 people that are going down to collect some wine from one Chateau, visit another and do some canalboat sightseeing.
    Thanks for the feedback

  • You hit the nail on the head.

  • Thank you Kenneth for the invite. I live in Rockville and work at Metro Center.

    I will definitely stop by.

  • QOTD: I'm not sure about the best pairing, but I can tell you the worst — camembert and OJ. It curdles in your mouth and it tastes like when you've been running too hard and you throw up in the back of your throat. Try it!

First of all, I am soooo bummed! Neither team I was rooting for won! I was hoping to see a Jets/Vikings superbowl. (nobody tell him I wanted the vikings to win…) I thought the story line of the old/new Favre team playing the new Favre team would be great! Also, being a Bears fan I've hated the packers for forever but always had a great respect for Favre. I loved when he went to the Jets (who I've been following a LOT since Thomas Jones went there) because I could cheer for him and not the packers. I LOVED the Jets this year Mr. Jones and me go way back and of course the Ryan legacy goes way back for Bears fans and Rex is just so much fun. Sanchez was my wife's favorite even before he was drafted so this was a fun season and the playoff games were awesome until the last one… Maybe Favre will retire anyways….
QOTD: At first I thought of going with the drink that pairs with its self…. I am talking about Guiness and my longstanding hypothesis that one could actually live on nothing but Guiness. (I think that there are some in Ireland that may do this with their local brew stouts….) It really is more of a meal than a beverage! But that was too easy so I have the one that makes all my friends and family cringe….
Rueben and Hot Chocolate I arrived at this by accident and it is awesome! It is almost impossible to pair a wine with a Rueben because of all of the different flavors going on. Sure you can hit one or two but then it kind of clashes or masks the other flavors. Beer tends to mask or cover some of the flavors as well. Hot chocolate coats your whole mouth and the combo of sweet matches with the dressing and corned beef while being a great counter to the saurkraut and rye. No one I know is willing to try it but I'm telling you, give it a shot and you will believe!

  • So hard to keep the passion at bay, eh? the mope show lasted until the smile at 2:18.
Go Riesling! so fun to try from the many terroir it inhabits.
QOTD: clean fresh H20 from the ground…followed by fruit juices or root beer.
mini qotd: about a dozen and a half from Alsace.

    Vayner Nation:
My cousin has been working in Haiti for the last few years…helped to co-found and organize non-profit there to build much needed toilets and build composted fertilizer for the nutrient deficient food crops…things we take for granted. I think the kind of work they do will be even more important during the rebuilding effort to come. If you are interested please visit http://www.oursoil.org

Yup, and Sierra Blanca in Moriarity (used to be in Carrizozo) has some good ones, the Alien Amber is very popular…and they have a nut brown that would make you swear you were drinking in an ancient pub in England.

Check out my wine site then, http://www.winelx.com. Let me know what you think.  Thanks

At my high school in Southwestern Ontario, we had an auto shop class. It was a terrible high school that was very underfunded and it still managed to have auto shop, so I'd imagine that they're pretty much standard everywhere around here.

  • I went to a Trimbach tasting a couple years ago and I must say that I was skeptical trying Alsace Riesling's, but found them (I tired several vintages) to be very clean and dry with hints of mineral, lemon, peaches, and almost limey (you blokes). Actually, the highlight of the tasting was talking at length to Jean Trimbach, because at the time the Trimbach Gewurz. was my favorite white.

This year, I bought a bottle of Trimbach Riesling 2007 and was very surprised at the acidity in the wine. It also fell in my price range (below $20) and I went back and bought half a case. I can tell you that when you find a great Riesling, it's so outrageously good, it's mind-boggling. I read somewhere that Alsace Rieslings can great aging potential. I plan to keep a bottle or two unopened for a few years and hope for the best. Any chances on aging working for Riesling?

    Cool! Thanks

Sent from my NSA brain implant.

  • Where is your store? I'm visiting Bordeuax i september. Of course one is in a hunt for good wines that don't rob you of your life savings 🙂

  • Phredd3

I think that's the first Sound of Music reference on WLTV.

  • QOTD : kombucha + sushi

The kombucha is the drink and sushi is the food. Kombucha is an imaginary blend of tea and soda, it tastes acidic and i prefer to drink it slightly chilled. I can't explain the paring, it just works great!

About the riesling, not my favorite white wine, the good ones i had are for my pallet to light. I probably need to find better riesling that deliver more oemf.

    Wine Cellar Managing Program.
I wonder what a good program or digital system is, to manage the small but growing wine cellars?

  • Best non-wine parings…

Fresh Mint Listerine (don't swallow it) and Fannie May Mint Meltaways.

  • Braden G

Hey Arvino. I like cellartracker… community scores, drinking windows, grape and appellation info… good stuff – and payment is voluntary. Also has a great app for the iPhone called Cor.KZ that allows you access to your cellar and community scores on the go so you can look up wines right there at the store… it will even scan the bar-code to bring up data. Cool stuff.

  • Braden G

    Cookies and milk!!!

  • gbinm

Awesome wines from Alsace and in my mind the wines are always linked to Austrians too.
both are beautiful crisp whites with power.
Alsace Rieslings and Austrian Riesling and Gruners rock with seafood (shellfish or rich fish) or suasages and choucroute!!!

and I have drunk more Alsace Rieslings than Chards. (Chards, they are too big and alcoholic, often)

    Non Wine pairing
    Espresso and Canoli

or savoury……. Jerk pork and a red stripe on the beach in J.A.

    ciao

  • thanx for your info BradenG. Now i use the 'Cellar' on the iPhone, but it is not a good system to manage a lot of bottles, do it looks good!

  • MattC

cold cut submarine sandwiches with ice cold lemonade…that's what i'm talkin about!

  • jimaharris

Gary, even after the Jets' loss, you are a true expression of JOY!!
I love wines from Alsace, Riesling and perhaps even more, Gewurztraminer. I have more Gewurtz than Riesling.
QOTD: I love extraordinary (Goose Island- Bourbon County comes to mind) stouts with rich chocolate cake.
A great IPA, (Russian River's Pliny the Elder) with fish tacos.

  • SourGrapesFC

Blakes! It's been years since I had a Lotaburger. Those are really great green chili cheeseburgers; maybe the best in the state (which would pretty much be the best in world by default). Now I want to jump up and drive to Santa Rosa…

  • Never heard of Dale’s Pale Ale, where can you find that? I’m in LA

  • robbiec

that sounds so good right now!

  • jim – where does one find that Goose Island-Bourbon County that you talk about? I love me some good stouts and I’ve never heard of this one. Where is it from?

  • romtina

QOTD: Orange soda with a sugar cookie. It can't get any sweeter than that! 🙂

  • NJStickist

QOTD: Does Gran Marnier and a good cigar count? 🙂

    Royce,
This 13 percent stout is from Chicago’s Goose Island Brewery. Aged in bourbon barrels. It’s stunning. One of the most complex beverages I have ever tasted. And it get better with a little bottle aging.
It’s a seasonal around Christmas time. Some retailers may have some left over. I’m new to where I am here in Jersey, so I don’t know of anyone that carries it. I would suspect that any store that carries a good selection of craft brew would have access to it.
    Good luck,
    Jim

  • Thanks Jim, I’ll report back if I can get my hands on one

  • laurieinvt

I've actually had hot chocolate with a reuben (because that's what there was to eat at the time, not because I picked it out) and you're right!

  • tobymarcus

    QOTD:
Alcohol: I love a UK Ale with hot wings.
Non-Alcohol: Milk with a PB&J (only pure Rasp. Jam)

Hello, I just finished reading your book “Crush It”, it’s awesome. I got me thinking and taking ACTION for my beverage business, Wild Bill’s Olde Fashion Soda Pop Co., website http://www.wildbillssoda.com.

My favorite beverage, besides wine, would be Wild Bill’s Olde Fashion Root Beer soda with a burger. Our soda has all natural ingredients! It’s the best in the country.
If you would like a sample, pls send me your mailing address and you will receive a bottle of root beer and the Wild Bill’s 36 oz. stainless steel mug!
Look forward to hearing from you.

caught a few zzz's on your opening football talk… then I woke up. thanks for the power nap.

I love Alsace wines, been there a couple times. yum. 8100 acres of Rieslings, wow.Keep those fun facts coming. 36 million bottles from Alsace. yes!

Good show, QOTD: bottled water – drink 8 a day, normally munch celery, peppers and carrots with it. (good offset for drinking wine in the evening)

  • re: football, I'm glad you're backing the Saints. Sorry about the circumstances. :-/

mini question: I never saw any auto shop classes in my Florida schools or the schools my friends went to. But who knows? It's a big state.

QOTD: I'm so bad at making choices and calling things my favorite. I have a tendency to just go with the last thing that I desired strongly and I sort of feel like I've wanted that thing my whole life even though I've only been thinking about it for a few days. The other day, I was being all professional and tasting through some wines while my French friends broke out the Ricard. I really wish I had taken a second to do Ricard (mixed with water) and this liver saucisson. I think that would have been awesome. It looked delicious. I MISSED THE BOAT.

  • CBone

I love a good Riesling! Nice to see them featured.

QOTD: I love milk with pizza. Gross, many say, but I love it.

Also, a good hoppy beer, preferably an American West Coast pale ale, with Thai, Indian, and (the best) Sri Lankan food! It really cuts through the coconut milk of the first and last cuisines, and tempers the chili. Wonderful.

  • bella

    COFFEE and hamburger with onions

  • fanbrew

Mini Question: We had shop classes. Woods, Metals, and Auto.

QOTD: Dogfish Heads 60 Minute IPA with a bone in pork chop and some crispy wafflefries.
