Gerry and the Mets – do me a favour!

Line of the day – ‘A 6ft 9 doorman at a NY club…you’re not getting by him’

Didn’t do it for me although GV lightened the mood late doors and that tickled me

Harry has been someone who has garnered a ton of respect over at E Bob, or should I say Yoda. The 04 Pegau Reservee is one of the wines of the decade. It may not be Harlan, thank god but it’s a watershed wine. As for the Laurence, I have yet to have it but if I see it, it’s a definite buy. The extra wood treatment is a bit if a turn off for me. The 1990 I had last year seemed a lot like Bordeaux.

When Gary compared Counoise to Syrah and the major leagues to Harry I heard this:

  • I love his passion for the Jets

  • Jerry.. what's up baby!!!.

    That was just too funny.

Love CnP… need to check out that book.

QOTD: Gary and the Jets… I feel good about it.. How about you?

  • SeanieBoy

QOTD: It's always good to see somebody passionate about different things. So I say all the Jets haters can sit and spin.

  • chicago mark

What a schmuck..who would want a huge book like that just on chateaunef-du -pape.
He cant even get your name right. Embarassing !

  • audiofan

    My experience with Pegau has been less than overwhelming; it has seemed in the past to be tannic, without the fruit to give the wines charm. Granted, I've only tasted 4-5 vintages, and usually the “regular” cuvee, but despite the critics high scores, I just find it to be too angular and disjointed for my tastes…and I adore the wines of CdP, including the whites. One of my all-time favorite wine-producing regions and one of my least-favorite producers. Maybe I should mix in a little Mollydooker! ;-}

  • I am definitely buying the book. Great guest.
TBH, $119 USD doesn't seem that high of a price for a top Cuvee. ( you should see the wine prices in this town, it's insane. )

QOTD: GaryVee and the Jets… it's a love affair of Greek proportions, in a very good way.

  • ikraus

GV – I am back! I took a vacation but I am back on the WLTV bandwagon. I can't wait to spend a few afternoons getting caught up. I am sure I missed a ton.

I actually love 100% counoise. I think it's an interesting and unique everyday wine. Not the easiest to find though.

I know it's early but I actually am already looking forward to next season for the Jets. They did well this year!!!

  • audiofan

    From yesterdays comments, apparently alot of people want the book…and I remember one time many years ago I made a slip and mis-named someone I just met…but not any more! It is perfection I have achieved…insult people you should not! ;-}

    Hey Guys

Awesome, what a fantastic show. Harry's book seems awesome. It's great to see a bloke with so much passion doing what he loves.

QOTD: Garry I honestly don't understand what you are talking about most of the time when you talk football, but I don't care. It's your show and you can do what you like, we don't have to watch. I love to see your passion for the Jets and it can only be a postive thing!

    Cheers
    Andrew

  • drt999

QOTD — most of us enjoy 'Jerry's' passion about life as well as his wine knowledge, and therefore don't even mind the Mets, err, Jets!

GV — thanks for the Ch-n-P show; a fav category of mine for the last 25 years

  • drew82

gotta love the passion. even tho i'm a pats fan. the jets fans don't bother me. it's the colts we hate. you guys ruined indy's perfection bid. you're all right in my book.

  • lordsauvignon

Wow, you have worn that shirt for the past couple of shows.

  • Everybody needs to have someone get their name wrong from time to time. Keeps us humble, right?

As to the QOTD, I enjoy the football talk – even when it's about the Jets. When you're a Rams fan, you have to show respect to everyone… except the Lions. We totally OWNED their asses this year! Hey, I know it's not much but it's all I've got. Well, that and the number one pick this year. It better be Suh!

  • johnfarrin

QOTD: I think Benny and the Jets at least would have brought the musical world into the mix. In my younger years I would often find my day (or at least a few hours of it) ruined by a loss of my favorite individual or team. Eventually I came to the realization that it's just a GAME. Enjoy it for the appreciation of the contest that it is.

  • lordsauvignon

I completely agree. Colts suck, go Pats

  • billwrollcia

gerry , lol, i totally understand, i just did a food show and they introduced my name completely wrong, it keeps us humble, and with a last name like roll, vaynerchuk looks impossible. go jets! i hope those crap ass colts explode, but manning does have major, major chops, Thanks gerry, \Bill

  • Phew…finally time to hook up and start the download. When regular broadcast, cable, dish, or optic TV is not a factor, it's really easy to look forward to this show like it's prime time.

  • Rawl-sha?

my last name is Trzaskos…you can imagine how that flustered the substitute teachers in school.

  • laurieinvt

The name slip-ups were funny, and Mr. Karis and Gary were both good sports about it!
“Anyone who takes himself too seriously always runs the risk of looking ridiculous; anyone who can consistently laugh at himself does not.” (Vaclav Havel, I believe)

QOTD: His 'unconditional passion' for the Jets is just a piece of the energy Gary seems to bring to everything he does.

  • Passion for life is a beautiful thing,'Jerry'. Keep smiling.

  • pete c

Jerry and the Mets. I love it! Looks like a very good book. Agree that the southern Rhone makes very good, food friendly wines.

  • EvanR

QOTD: love to hear anyone talk about something with that much passion, even if it is the wrong kind of football 😉

  • Can you imagine if there were more people like Harry, who took it upon themselves to document in great detail the wine areas of the world that they love? Sure, not all of it would be right for everyone, but the collective knowledge and information would be invaluable to all.

Good pace on this interview, good rapport, the interruptions were worthwhile, and I think that, wardrobe change aside, GV gave us a great week, earned a trip to the showers, and a weekend off. I imagine to watch Pro Bowl 2010.

    QOTD: follow your bliss…
the passion is great, as long as he's having fun, and no one is getting hurt.

  • WineWoman

QOTD: It's great to see someone so genuinely passionate about the Mets, I mean Jets. Actually Gerry, oops, I mean Gary is passionate in just about everything he does in life. I'm sure his passion has made an impact on his audience, and will continue to catch on. You always do a great job, Gary. (-:

  • montanacalling

We had this over Christmas…opened at noon and drank at 7…it was fantastic. A clear all time favorite

  • DPnCali

First, I love GV's passion for the Jets as well. But to reply to this comment specifically, the Jets didn't do anything concerning the Colts perfect bid. That was all on management. And you as a Pats fan, you should understand better than anybody that having a perfect record for the regular season doesn't mean a damn thing now does it. But hey, I can understand why you hate on the Colts…I mean, when was the last time your Pats beat my Colts anyway? Oh and btw, good call on 4th and 1. 😀

  • DPnCali

And to you, I'm sorry, but did you just say that a team that's in the Super Bowl sucks? Really?

  • QOTD: Personally, I'm uninterested, but it's part of Gary's passion so it's fun sometimes.

  • If Gary didn't talk about the Jets then he would not be authentic. I am not a huge football fan but I have learned a lot by watching the Thunder Show.

  • Hugh

Gary has passion, whether for wine, social media, lizzie, misha, the jets….his passion is real and true, so, in a word, it's all good

  • DPnCali

I agree. And I know that GV is a huge…HUGE…Jets fan, but I would just add that his passion for success may stand out the most.

  • davemcneilly

Harry, Gerry, Gary….whatever the names, an interesting guest who's written one of the world's great wine books. Exploring the book and the wines of Chateauneuf looks like an excellent project for 2010 (and 2011…).

Gary's show wouldn't be the same without the sidebars on the Jets, so keep the faith 🙂

  • Katie Marquez

Are you being facetious? A huge book like that would be interesting on many a thing. I would read an in-deapth study of all sorts of things including a specific Grape varietal if it were interesting/had an interesting history. And many a region of the world definitely has an interesting history not excluding Chateaunef-du-pape.

  • RhoneDrinker

Great show. Yeah, all the Jets talk is a little on the annoying side. If you keep you with episodes like that I'll overlook all the sports talk.

  • GreggB

Big G, another goodie, but I don't see dropping the cash for That last CDP.

    QOTD: Love the Passion

  • lordsauvignon

    Touche

  • laposte

Great episode. Unquestionable ;Barolo and ChDP are the wines of the next decade. Cannot wait to read the book.
QOTD: What was it? Did you ask if Barry was wet?

  • Decent 2 parter, liked that the Pegau didn't show that well.

QOTD: The only time I like all the Jets talk is after my Phins have punched them in the throat (twice this year) and Gary is crushed, but I like people being in to their sports teams. Thats how you should be if you are a true fan. With all that said happy to be at #12 rather than #29 with the best draft in years comming up.

  • jtp375

    cue the Elton John music……………….

    Jh……Jh…….Jerry and the Jetssss………………………..

Nice show overall. Enjoyed it. Haven't tried that CdP (yet).
So you love sports. So do I. Maybe just quite not as over the top as you. 🙂

  • legrec

QOTD I think everything you do with wines and business IS for the Jets. I know you are joking sometimes but I am certain that the ultimate goal is to buy that team for real. I could'nt beleive how crushed you were two episodes ago. Even wine doesn't bring that kind of emotion into you. The show is good because of that passion. Keep it this way and we will still be here.

  • hollisdevillo

yes yes, someone should remix the song for gary. he can play it as the ending song. then, what next, wine library becomes most famed internet show? what? no way!

  • ironmics

I love the sports talk, wine is always so hard for a lot of people to approach, since most wine critics are in the vein of say, James Suckling. No hate towards him, but it's a bit hard to relate to a guy wearing suits more expensive than my car who lives in Tuscany. You have the one of the guys appeal, someone who can kick back and have fun with wine. Honestly I've been down on the Jets for a couple years, but that's because of the people, not the team. Every time I see Mark Sanchez, all I can think of is his whiny little out burst after OSU beat USC last year. Being from Oregon, I have no home town or even state team, so I'll always root for the underdog though, and I don't know if there's anyone more of an underdog than the Jets now that the Saints are gonna win one finally.

So, give Sanchez a pep talk and make sure he doesn't act like a bitch, and I'll be fully behind them.

BTW are you a college football fan at all? I started watching Rutgers during Ray Rice's senior season, so I've been pulling for them as my team in the northeast lately.

  • ironmics

Yeah, I kinda want to watch it just to see Asomugha and Revis on each side, that should be silly.

  • G(J)ary's passion for the Jets is ok with me! Great show!

  • aaroncello

    QOTD:
I'm fine with the Jets thing. The Green works for Gary.

  • castello

    Cold cold cold!!! awesome lol!

  • lorensonkin

Great show. I had the pleasure of having lunch with Harry and his son, Phil is France when he was working on the book. They are both great guys with true passion. I loved his talk about vintages. The string of 98 thru 07 (except 02) really offers a wide range of great styles. Interesting as, along with Barolo, perhaps nowhere has there been such an extended streak of good to great years (except 02).

Jerry can cheer for the Mets, it doesn't bother me.

  • castello

Love the passion for sports but putting so much energy into one team can be a hollow dream. It all comes down to money. It used to be a loyalty thing. Now your favorite player will be playing for the enemy next season. Sour, acidic grapes on my part…..Go Niners!
