Gerry and the Mets – do me a favour!

Line of the day – ‘A 6ft 9 doorman at a NY club…you’re not getting by him’

Didn’t do it for me although GV lightened the mood late doors and that tickled me

Agree. It's just a silly game.

120 bones? I don't think so. Let it breathe……couple more years.?

  • Do you like chateauneauf-du-pape? What about tattoos? Check this out! www(dot)vimeo(dot)com(slash)9069173

Ps. Great show Gary and cool guest, and an AWESOME book. I love the way Harry talks btw.
QOTD: Garys passion for the Jets is inspiring!

  • allanj

    Qotd: It's all good!

  • castello

nice blog. What part of Finland are you from?

  • Well, I learned something this time too. Thank you Gary and Harry. I now have to restrain myself from opening all my du papes to to enjoy this wide spectrum of wines

Dont dizz Harry för the wrong name pronunciation
    G is often pronounced J i Dutch

QOTD: Crusch it, time to cash in on your passion. How can one complain about a passion someone else have, really folks?

To MOTT: Hope you had the time to get home and have a good dinner. Have i nice weekend.

Lucky U Gary!!!!!!, Tasted Pegau is like tasted for me (wine level in difference price) a DRC .
Pegau is one of my favorite memory in wine tasting.(with Rayas)

  • MarcBelgium

That was a very, very nice show. Great knowledge and amusing to listen to. The fact that Harry Karis is Dutch makes it even better. I loved it.
Gary, more of the same, please.

QOTD. Well, before I discovered WLTV I knew nothing about the Jets, and frankly, I didn't mis it. Sometimes it's more Jets talk than wine talk, but I don't mind because that's what makes Gary and I love people who are passionate.

  • Thanks! 😉

  • Thanks. We're currently upgrading our vlog, next month the new site will be up. I live in Helsinki.

Dear Jerry- I have always loved watching your show, and I have always shared your unconditional passion for the Mets, but I have to respect your friend Gary's passion for the NY Jets as well…

  • Gerry's passion towards the Jets even has this Patriots fan rooting for them (as long as they're not playing the Pats)

  • plcb

QOTD: I like that Jerry/Gary is not a fair weather fan. He's a life-long fan from his heart and being.

My PA store carries Domaine du Pegau Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Reserve 2007 for 84.99, code 20819.

great guest, great episode. I also like that many Chateauneufs drink well in their youth as well as aging well. Grenache from this area can be absolutely delicious. I recently had a 2006 Vieux Telegraphe that impressed me quite a bit. I'd love to be able to try that wine in another 5 years.

qotd: I think Gary's fanaticism towards the Jets is amusing, provided he doesn't talk about them for the majority of an episode.

  • Richie

QOTD: I think its really funny and it makes me check out football sometimes.

  • Anonymous

Haha I realized that after I wrote it, I meant his last year…oops.

  • What a great episode! And a great passionate guest!

QOTD: I'm French so? I just don't know the Jets and the hall Football story! But it's still fun…

  • more and more international viewers appearing. Do Wine library TV have any stats (checcked ip-adresses)? Just for fun.

  • joshobyrne

I really liked this episode, and Chateauneuf-du-Pape is a wine I haven't tried yet and I'm going to make the effort to go and find one.

Still laughing about Gerry and the Mets.

  • Awesome guest, really enjoyed this two parter. Haven't ventured into the Chateauneuf-du-Pape category yet but it's on my list.

As for Jerry…err, Gary's passion for the Jets, it's one of the things I look forward to. Being an avid NFL fan (somehow surviving as a Lions fan) I could talk sports and football all day. It's my passion for both social media and football that landed me the opportunity to partner with the NFL/Ticketmaster for this upcoming Super Bowl's social media campaign #shamelessplug (@NFLtixExchange).

I'm also a former (in my 20's) sports cards and collectibles enthusiast and wholesaler along with being a former wrestling fan. Back in the days of Iron Sheik, Hulk Hogan, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Jake “The snake” Roberts, and my favorite, Andre the Giant. Mix in a little wine and it's no wonder I'm one of Gary's biggest fans and supporters.

fwiw, Ray Rice left Rutgers after his jr year … 🙂

14+ minutes for part 2 … me thinks you're padding your episode count … razzzzzzzzzzzzzz

    QOTD …. LET'S GO METS!!!

  • BrettFavre

great show. I am putting the book on my birthday list.

I like Gary's Jets obsession. I am an NFC guy (Packers, not Vikes) but it gives me something to root for on the junior circuit.

  • QOTD: I love the Jets talk, it doesn't bother at all. I actually pay more attention to them on Sundays because of Jerry (sorry, Gary).

  • CBone

I enjoyed these two episodes quite a bit, and I think your discussion was really interesting, thanks for having a really serious wine talk and letting us in on it. In a world with ever increasing levels of dumbed down media, this was an intelligent breath of fresh air.

QOTD: I like that a football lover can be an important wine figure – breaks the stereotypes so many people have about us wine folk. I'm more of a hockey guy myself (Go Sabres!). I think the football talk brings levity and fun – I mean, did you ever hear that couple from the Wall Street Journal talk about wine? Wow…they could make sex sound boring, so you can imagine what its like to hear them discuss the weather in Chinon. But Gary, just being himself, is interesting, varied, fun, admits and celebrates the collisions in his thinking (points v experience of wine, art v business, etc). The football is part of that.

    Still no emails Homey….!!!????

  • guymandude

Really enjoyed this , he has great passion for that area that's awesome, good job.

qotd; talk about what ever your passionate about.

  • nickcaruth

Mr. Karis great interview, have to get the book once amazon has it stocked

QOTD – I love that Gary is passionate about the Jets, about wines and about the wine industry in general.

however, for all his passion about champagne, he kinda falls flat..

  • Bill

Did anyone notice that Gary actually swallowed the Pegau on two separate occasions? Maybe small sips, but not in the bucket!
Loved the passion or should I say Thunder?

  • allanj

Gonna have two Papes tonite with a friend. Both '07. Roger Sabon Les Olivets & standard Clos Saint Jean. Looking pretty good… Have a great weekend all : )

  • Nick i agree on the Champagne Statement, I will step it up, I don't show that card enough or properly!

  • Whatya mean Glen?

  • 😉 thn bro!

  • Thnx MM!

  • So cool, u guys meet here 🙂

  • castello

    What's your native language?

  • Would be extremely grateful for a brief tweet mention about our NFL account. Your extensive network might be looking for tickets 🙂

    Thanks for responding.

  • That was the absolute funniest QoTD ever. I laughed so hard I started to cry! To answer, I really don't care to hear about the Jets(Mets) but it is fun to see Gary's(Gerry's) passion. Any organization would be blessed to have such an advocate.

  • LMNOPinot

QOTD: Gary's passion for the Mets is great!!
    Crap, that was funny!
    Good episode.

    M-E-T-S METS METS METS

Great episode. I really love it when you bring these serious wine people on and taste some stuff that I will never afford for years. In a way i feel like i am living vicariously through your palate Gary.

QOD: I really think passion is what gary is all about whether it be wine, his business, or his football team. While I am no jets fan its a nice quirk to bring to the show.

Thanks, J & Harry. I visited the Rhone in the Spring of '09 and the sense was it could be the end of a string of strong vintages for CdP. We'll see.

QOTD: I'm a football fan and completely understand where Jerry is coming from. No worries there.

  • lawrenceleichtman

Err the Mets?, why the opera is nice this time of year, get to dress up have a few brews and watch them bunt a free throw. Obviously, the guest did not check out much about GV. He's passionate about everything he is interested in. I'm afraid that this will be all vicarious to me as I'm not in the market for $125 wines.

  • oakmonsbf

I like Gerry sharing his passion for the Mets. Actually I probably wouldn?t like it if Gary was a big Mets fan. They?re a rival. His passion for the Jets isn?t a threat. I?m relatively indifferent to the Jets and he?s relatively indifferent to the Eagles. So it?s cool.

  • Awesome show guys!! It was really great meeting you in Boston Harry, I also look forward to buying your book.

QOTD: Jerry's passion for the Jets makes me want to throw up in my mouth…GO PATRIOTS

  • cdncartman

I love that Jerry is a Mets fan! With the sports, family, action figures, etc… it demonstrates that Gary is a real guy and isn't embarassed about who he really is…kudos to you for not being a fake person like most people in the media.

Great show, but next time please don't tease me for almost 2 days before posting part 2.

Also, what happened to that Gevrey Chambertin episode you talked about a few episodes ago?

I've tried a couple 07 CNDP's in the last few weeks, and I'm really wondering if they will indeed get that much better with time. Had a Clos des Brusquieres and after 3 days re-corked in the cellar is was still big, but I did prefer it on day 2. Maybe just my taste.

    Keep it up Jerry…hehe

  • gotsha

QOTD…In general, I don't understand people that get emotionally wrapped up being a sports fan. To be extremely passionate; like jerry, you need to be a bit of a sadist. What are the odds that your team will win it all in any given year? Hint: not very good. Therefore, year after year, you end up beating yourself up emotionally.

  • fljohn

Another great show. very good guest on a great reigon. I could listen to him talk about the little things all day. Love the wines from the reigon have won many bones betting my peers in the Rest. industry about the percentage of white in some du pape. I am a Dolphin fan but still don't mind the show of passion and dedication to your team I am much the same with the Fins. but it's 82 here today in So. Fla. and we beat you twice this year. So things are alright. and with Parcels at the helm getting better all the time.
    P. S. wouldn't trade QBs with you guys.

    take care and stay warm
    John Paris

  • adrums

Jerry has always been a huge Mets fan, the passion/obsession for him is as natural as breathing. If and when they win it all, we'll probably see the mania subside slightly… take it from me, I'm a diehard red sox fan, but following the '04 world series, it just wasn't quite the same; kind of like a teenage boy who finally, after much deprivation and yearning, gets a piece.
