line of the day – ‘we need a Mott cam’

Basically GV could say to Mott – ‘this smells like Bruce Willis’ arse on a Friday’ and Mott would reply – ‘Yeah I get that’. Here it’s ‘sardines’ that GV bowls out there and the Mottster picks it up immediately! Comedy value very high

    Great show GV,
I am a big fan of Cahors…why…cuz i haven't gotten on the $8, one dimensional, Argintinian malbec band wagon…thats why!!
You are so right about Cahors being more old world and having much more layers of flavor. Keep spreading the knowledge GV..You are changing the wine world my friend.

Stop referencing Connecticut and cranberries, we dont have any bogs in CT.

QOTD 1:Having an earlier 90's alternative revival, Smashing Pumpkins, Offspring, Nirvana

LOL, Gary should start refering to WI and crannberries; we have plenty of crannberries up in the “thumb” region of our ovenmit shapped state.

  • thrawn

Listening: R.E.M.'s “Live at the Olympia”. No band I know has so self-consciously attempted to channel itself in front of thousands of fans.

Watching: The Wire. I don't love the show, but I just can't turn it off. Crazy interesting.

Reading: Song of Fire and Ice Cycle by George R. R. Martin. Just a wild take on traditional high fantasy, without the gimmicky magic that is always de jour. Extremely well written, and certainly not new, but that's the beauty of books.

Man, I gotta get me some more French and Spanish wine. Mouton Cadet excluded, the store can keep that. Very interesting show, thanks.

    Loving your work Gazz,

  • I think everyone has an imaginary visual of Mott. Maybe it should remain a mystery.

  • Altboy97

Loved getting the whole Cahors, Malbec, Argentina thing straightened out in my head.
QOTD – I got Agassi's book and Super Freakonomics for Christmas but haven't read yet. I only read non-Fiction. Listen mostly to NPR (really enjoy Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me).

  • It's shows like todays that frustrate me for not living in NJ/NY where I could just pop into the store & purchase some wine like the Malbecs you featured today. Not quite balling yet for the $150 stuff but all in due time.

Also, take a lesson from your buddy Kevin Rose and get a couple cameras for your show. You could get the Mot cam for reactions, other angles for variety, etc. I know you like the lower maintenance show element but maybe it's time to add a fresh look.

    Just suggesting πŸ™‚

  • Great episode Gary.

I think a Mot-cam would be a great idea. Hook it up!

As for the questions of the day:

I am listening to the Black Eyed Peas a lot, also loving Empire State of Mind by Jay-Z and – TiK ToK by KE$HA.

I just finished watching WLTV – really want to go out and get a bottle of the 2005 Haut Monplaisir Cahors Cuvee Prestige….closest I can find a the LCBO here in Ontario is CHΓ‚TEAU HAUT-MONPLAISIR TRADITION 2006 … are these similar? I also find I am watching a lot of stuff online – I am finding that on demand contend is where it is at!

As for what I am reading, again, reading a lot of stuff online – a lot of blogs on subjects such as Triathalons, Wine, Photography. To be perfectly honest, I just finished Crush It about a week ago. It was GREAT. I found it to be extremely motivating!

We need to change the wine packaging world. Styrofoam SUCKS!

The Beatles remastered box set especially Hard Days Night and Revolver, mid eighties REM live shows(yes they're dated), Love Forever Changes(1967 masterpiece that never gets old), The Who, Kinks, Hendrix, Nirvana Unplugged and a whole plethora of mid 60s early 70s classic rock. Recently I finished” Imperial Cruise “and bought 6 copies for family members for Christmas and have had great feedback. Bathroom reading is dominated by ” Why We Suck: A Feel Good Guide to Staying Fat, Lazy, Loud and Stupid “that was a gift. The Office is my favorite show. MLB Network is incredible in HD, baseball can't start soon enough. Film Noir from the 40s and 50s are a passion(brilliant cinematography and themes). Simpsons and Family Guy with my 11 yr. old son who changes everyday it seems. (11 was my favorite age as a kid). And of course WL TV , now do I get a prize!

What an awesome episode! Anytime you break out some outrageous analogies for the flavors you're tasting in a wine, the episode is a winner in my book. The first wine that ended up with Oklahoma hunter's pickup truckbed after a rainstorm was fantastic! The whole black & white Southern blueberry pie from the early 20th century was over the top. πŸ™‚
