Thanks! This is some interesting info

  • Glad to see an episode with so much excitement over inexpensive wine…my only problem is that I am not sure how I feel about the way you described the aroma. Might be worth checking out anyway…

    QOTD: 35=7*5

  • SouthernBrewDude

I had a glass of Cantillon Fou'foune Apricot recently that smelled exactly like unsoiled baby's diapers. A buddy of mine pointed it out first, I took a wiff, and sure enough, it was like being hit in the face with a bag of Huggies. Funny thing is, the beer was delicious.

QOTD: I got nothing here (7×5 maybe?) But Gary, “a 16 year old girls room”? If I ever use that as an aroma descriptor, I think some of my tasting buddies might consider calling the cops… 😉

Love Torrontes. In the summer. It doesn't do it for me in the cold weather. This past summer we went through a half case each of the Crios ('08) and Torino Don David Torrontes ('08, liked it a little better than the Crios, but the Torino '07 which I had the prior summer was better). Had one bottle of Crios left and drank it in December. Couldn't finish it. Wine was still good, but doesn't have the heft I want in a winter white.

    GARY!!!

Wow, messages to the great great great great grandkids..I suddenly feel like we're all a bigger part of something here..!
My parents were married 45 years last month… I dont think its working out.. LOL

QOTD: 35! It was a good year!!

    xoxo

  • DionysusPrincess

The Crush It video is awesome-what a great project!
I am getting the Crios De Susana Balbo this week, just to smell it- best description ever!!!
QOTD: $35 is how much I spent on a pair of shoes at the mall today =)

  • Don Simpson

Gary – great tribute to your parents, I enjoyed that quite a bit. I haven't had too many Torrentes but I feel they are more hit and miss than Malbec.

QOTD: 35mm cameras. Seems so long ago, I guess digital cameras have been around for a while. Ahhh the days of dropping film off to get developed and getting doubles of all photos.

  • Bob

    Gary,
Long time lurker. I decided to comment because of your prodding. (To be fair though, I didn't comment earlier because I was not yet 21) Anyway, good episode, I'm gonna have to try a Torrontes this spring.
    QOTD: OLD

  • GoIrish04

Hey GV, it's been a minute since I last commented so I want to say hello. I don't have much to say regarding today's show; just another solid episode to add to the archives.

QOTD: I think about the fact that 35 is just around the corner for me, it seems! Happy Valentine's Day to you and your family and all the Vayner Nation.

    Keep it real.

  • So liking is cool, but points??? How does that work? I'm a fan of the NFL so points matter more than people liking me.

QOTD: 35 makes me thing of a major chord (the 3rd and 5th above a note).

  • not sure about google buzz. Experiences peeps?

  • vpass64

I was wondering when Argentina was going to come into play with Gary. Was that candy bar a little bit of product placement? Gary are you getting your own TV show?

QOTD: 35, a good age to have children.

  • JiminAtlanta

I have only had the Crios of the 3 wines. I think 35 is a good age. Not too young, but not too old. Congrats to Mr. and Mrs. V. on 35 years.

  • carlo10

    wine library stickers!?!?!?!?!?!?

  • Don Simpson

Wow, that CRUSH IT video was HILARIOUS… Just purchased the song on Amazon for the Haiti Caring House. I will encourage my friends to buy the song too.

Gary – I had no idea until now you're doing this. Awesome…

Vayniacs – If you haven't purchased the song yet, do it, its only $0.99 and 100% of the money goes to Caring House Project for Haiti.

  • vpass64

I would like to hear some input as well. Also, if Google and China got into a fight, who would win?

  • carlo10

haha screwing by the pool…nice save gary

Welcome to the Thunder Show and being able to legally drink!

  • Don Simpson

I just started using it a few days ago. The jury is still out… It seems okay so far. I do like that its connected to gmail so it pulled in all my contacts automatically and also recommends people for me to follow.

  • lawrenceleichtman

35 doesn't remind me of much. I was 35 in 1982 so I guess leg warmers. The Crushit video was funny.

  • don't be afraid lurkers, GV will still be nice to you if you meet him out in public, he'll just talk trash about you when he's back on WLTV.

    QOTD:
35 means nothing to me other than I'll be turning 30 in two months and I always try to have a 5 year plan in mind…..hopefully I'll be able have a nice wine cellar by then????

  • carlo10

QOTD: 35=old…JUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUSSST kidding everyone. but seriously, that if 14 years away!

  • Dominic C.

@GaryV, did you go to that Vino2010 conference up in New York? I didn't but it was reading the recap and it was really an amazing read. I think even in one of the slides presented in that conference had referenced you and Dr Vino in which you had on the show.

The key focus of the entire conference was how to endure the economic downturn in the wine community.

Anyhow… QotD: 35 is hopefully when I'll make my return!

  • Don Simpson

Remember the episode of the Office when Jim dresses up as “Bookface the popular social networking site” by writing “book” on his face. CLASSIC!

  • pablolosangeles

Awesome GaryV! More Torrontes… I mean better Torrontes is coming. I think the more Argentina works on this varietal the better its gonna get. Great show! By the way.. how many comment post do u need to officially not be a lurker??… hmm?

  • 2008 Crios was my first Torrontes. Great summer time wine. Costco sells the 2009 Crios De Susana Balbo Torrontes.

    QOTD: 34…..36

  • KVM1985

Hmmm…your question has me totally stumped! BUT your clear admiration of your parents' marriage reminds me of how much I love my parents and THEIR 25 years of marriage! For a long time I took for granted the health of their relationship, but within the last year or so I've realize how special it is, and I have told them so. That recognition meant a lot to them.

  • Dominic C.

China only controls the flow of information in and out of china while Google can guide and sort the data for a greater part of the world. Google also has their hands in several government facilities and at this point, probably can rival a lot of countries with they currently are.

  • Dominic C.

I'm not sure how to feel about it. It's like GMail+ but with it's current set up, I feel is too invasive.

  • I think my wife is going to love this varietal. She is a massive fan of whites, both sweet and not, and I don't think we've every had it. Love the show, I'm pumped to try this out.

QOTD: When I think of the number 35 I think of the fact that I'm 25 now, and that I had some goals set for myself for when I reached 35, and that I only have 10 years left to get there. I want deeply to have experienced so much more, and to have gotten so much further than I have gotten so far; but, I absolutely determined to make more of the next 10 then I did of the last.

    Thanks Gary!

  • Nick_L

Something weird is happening with the last few videos. Every time text appears on the screen, the video gets a shade darker.

Nothing important, obviously, but something Mott might wanna check out.

    Awesome episode, btw.

  • Thanks Mike for that recommendation, I'll have to search that one out.

  • Don Simpson

I think Stephen Fabarez really wants his prize, he's “liking” everyone 🙂

The moire pattern from your shirt makes you look like “Max Headroom”

  • Ron

QOTD: I think of my age.
Totally agree with your review of the Crios. I adore that wine. And I too am fascinated by how aromatic the Torrontes grape is. As far as I can tell, it leads them all, with only the Gewurztraminer coming close.

  • QOTD: My past, my kids future.

  • liked the show, but the question of the day,

    35 means nuttin to me.

  • Hey everyone make sure u check Cindy tonight 🙂 http://cinderellawine.com/

  • QOTD: #35 doesn't mean much to me other than I passed 35 five years ago.

Getting more into whites thanks to your influence & really enjoying the process. Growing up it was always the sugary white zinfandel (a blush?) which is why I never realized their complexity.

    …and your video ROCKS!

  • I'm not sure Gary meant that liking posts meant liking EVERY post 🙂

  • Altboy97

Loved the visions of summer you're giving in this show, as the next storm rolls into the tri-state area. Gotta grab some La Yunta for when it heats up a bit. Or maybe I should head for that cheap Carib hotel with the turtle 🙂

  • Enjoyed show this evening although none of these wines captured my desire to drink them. Funny line at the swimming pool.

QOTD: 35 is the minimum age a person needs to be to be elected POTUS.

  • #35 = Frank Thomas

  • Cameo of Bit O' Honey makes me want some now. I haven't had that forever. Makes me remember my grandfather who would always give me a ton of those.

    #35 = Tom Barrasso

  • cowz

Loved the funniness in this one. I like these types of white wines, very nice.

QOTD: 35 reminds me of 35mm film for some reason.

  • Gary great show! I am a HUGE fan of torrontes. I added Trivento Torrontes to my wine list a few months ago and it has been doing really well. Only Torrontes on a list in the city! I liked the 08 La Yunta, look forward to trying the 09.

QOTD: I've set some personal goals for when I turn 35!

  • tooch

I enjoy a nice torrontes on a summer day, much like the scenarios being described during the show. i have found that over the past 18 months, more and more torrontes producers seem to be shifting to a slightly more sugary cuvee…ah the affects of mass appeal.

    QOTD: 7×5
