Sauvignon Blanc is the only wine varietal that I’m bored with so I couldn’t get too pumped about this episode (even though Joe Namath makes an appearance)

  • Sorry about the Cooper’s Creek, bummer man. NZ Sauv Blanc tend to get a bit cat pissed/grassed out for my palate, although lord knows I don’t want to go drawing any lines in the sand and making broad generalizations. Have had some enjoyable stuff from there.

QOTD: Lazy Lady Sweet Emotions (http://gourmetlibrary.com/products/40836-Sweet-Emotions-Lazy-Lady-Farms) with an oaked Chardonnay.

  • Great show. Too bad the wines weren’t better, though I disagree and believe that papaya is correctly rated.

QOTD: I love cheese, my favorite is blue cheese and here in Oregon we have Rogue River Creamery (www.roguecreamery.com) which produces great ones. Surprisingly my favorite is not the signature Rogue River Blue, which gets a lot of press and awards, but I prefer the Smokey Blue. I pair it with any number of whites, but on a hot day in summer it’s good with the very fruit forward Evolution by Sokol Blosser (www.evolutionwine.com). Though I also enjoy Sancerre and un-oaked Chardonnay.

  • Nice, tight show. Too bad none of the wines killed. I like that price point.

With Jolly Pumpkin Bam Biere… Man, oh man! I understand that it’s not wine, but gad that’s a great combo.

Thanks for the free shipping, GV. Now I’ll be FORCED to order something by Sunday – cool! Nice show on Kiwi Sauvignon Blanc. I’m not a huge fan of these wines in general, but I think they are good quaffing wines for the summer months or with shellfish on the grill.

QOTD: How about a nice vintage Port and a blue cheese like

Hands down one of my favorite pairings is Taleggio & Oregon Pinot Noir (Patty Green).

QOTD- Reverdy Sancerre 2007 with some of Colorado’s own Haystack Cracked Pepper Chevre. I love this pairing!!! Here is the link for the cheese http://www.haystackgoatcheese.com/cheese.htm The wine is from the Weygandt portfolio. Sooooo good!

Great Midwest Habenero Jack cheese with practically any wine – – love the complexity and the heat of the cheese – – it breathes new life into wines…

As for cheese, I’ve been getting into pairing all sorts of wines with Great Midwest’s Habenero Jack cheese – – it adds complexity and back-end…

I don’t know why, but I really really enjoyed this episode. I’m surprised you made it through all of the GL and cheese talk without a single ‘link it up’! I also loved how asleep Mott seemed regarding Namath 😛

Unfortunately the shipping code doesn’t do much for me since I have free shipping all year from the Jets’ massive Indy win, and I just placed a huge GL Snow Day order (that just arrived yesterday and, as always, the cheeses are amazing. I especially recommend http://gourmetlibrary.com/products/48266-Monteo-Tavoliere

QOTD: I recently had my first Sancerre, the 03 Chateau Lamourette, with Maytag Blue and it knocked my socks off http://gourmetlibrary.com/products/7350-Maytag-Blue-Cheese

I’d give papaya an 88+ on the fruit scale:)

  • Waits

Cool track. Early Waits then. Small Change is one of his best early albums (if not the best).
    Tom Traubert’s Blues isn’t bad either….

Step Right Up reminds me a bit of Gary V. ; )

  • Eric

Emmentaler cheese paired with Beaujolais or Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

  • Don Simpson

Gary – SOLID show. Nice to get you back in the Thunder saddle and a break from the guests.

QOTD: Sancerre and Gruyere. Not only does it rhyme, but its DELICIOUS. Try these:

    http://winelibrary.com/wines/45144-2007+Gerard+Boulay+Monts+Damnes+Sancerre+750ML

I love the complexity, minerality, balance, and nice finish on the Boulay, which is even better with the Gruyere.

If you love creamy cheeses then you must have had St. Andre Triple Creme http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint-André_cheese and for wine a sancerre or a nicely acidic sauvignon blanc or a pecorino or verdicchio. The only thing better than having it with cheese would be some oysters…

  • Waits

Really, eh…. ? Here’s another one for you then:

Mott RULES BIG TIME!!! ; )

  • NY Pete

    I’m not pissed … I can’t remember the last time I paid for shipping … 🙂

  • laurieinvt

Free shipping at Gourmet Library (with the code)- thanks! I was just thinking it would be worth ordering even with shipping just to save the trip out (for those of us in the sort of boonies) and then you make that offer! Sweet!

  • Paul Coleridge

  • ChicagoMatt

Love the immediate emails when the episode is up!

  • you can get that?

  • Manon Cheese (Spain) with a tradional style Rioja.

  • ChrisNY2

Thanks for the free shipping! I wonder if you wouldve gotten more enjoyment out of the other two wines if you tried them with the cheese as well..hmmm

    QOTD: sorry, got nothin

  • Top 10!

  • ChicagoMatt

Yeah. The emails used to come out in the evenings after they were posted. This week, I've noticed a new style in the emails and they come out as soon as the episode is published.

  • Thanks for setting us straight on the ratings. Can't wait for SPRING!

QOTD: I like a hard dry cheese like sharp cheddar or parmesan

  • laurieinvt

QOTD: Mimolette with cab sauv, though it would pair well with a wide range of wines or Bayley Hazen Blue (Jasper Hill Farm) with a good tawny port.

  • MikePos

Code just for the cheese or wine too?

  • mattgmann

I think the post count should start at 11, so the first 10 posts aren't wasted with “Top 10”, “Finally Top 5!”, and “OMFG I can't believe I posted before someone else, but have nothing to contribute! I love seeing my words on the interweb!”

I'll contribute something about wine later, but for now, cheers to you, top-10 blog response poster guy!

  • jeffsjeff

    GV–

I haven't watched yet, maybe you mention it–but I WANT ONE OF THOSE SHIRTS! How do I get one!?

  • free shipping to Sweden to 😀

    white wine and cheese! nice!

QOTD: 48 months old Dutch Gouda or a port flavoured cheddar with a garanacha/grenache based wine with high alcohol content. That makes you sit all night slurping and chewing away, oh a bit of chorizo to that too.
damn no I'm hungry and its bedtime….

  • castello

I can't wait to read the comments because I don't know much about matching the 2.

  • Wauw that was quick! Energetic show Gary…

Qotd: Well, will have to go with blue cheese and a Sauternes. That's a great combo! But that being said, Sauternes is (if you want the good stuff) always expensive. Even in the half bottle range.

Sorry about the Coopers Creek though, a wine i have seen in my corner of the world, well i will probably give it a go, to see if i agree with you Gary V. 83 p, huh!!!??! Coopers creek also has a Pinot, is that any good??? Vayniacs help me out here, or Gary…

Mott rules the cam! How about doing a medley of the greatest moments of Mott Camera history??? Could be cool.

    Cheers everybody.
