Sauvignon Blanc is the only wine varietal that I’m bored with so I couldn’t get too pumped about this episode (even though Joe Namath makes an appearance)

Looking forward to the new vintage of the Eradus SB…that was a serious Marlborough SB…nice weight, while still exhibiting the freshness we expect.

  • carlo10

QOTD: i have never really gotten into the wine and cheese. i am too cheap. but that gooey cheese looked mighty fine!

  • Glad to see other NZ SBs than Kim Crawford…

QOTD: Burgundy/Pinot Noir with Brie or Camembert!!!

  • aaroncello

Good to have you back, no offense to yesterday's guest. Guests are hit and miss. And may have to take you up on the cheese order. Ship down to FL? Well, I guess I'll find out.

Can't get enough of that Rogue smokey blue. Like it with Hopslam, Bell's Double IPA.
    Want some now!

  • corkscrew

Gary, you picked some bad choices! I never drank Sav Blanc until last year, now I enjoy it every other month (prefer Chard or a Viognier), best picks: Kim Crawford-08-$14, Dashwood-08-$9, Zolo-$11, and really liked Walnut Block-08-$11, for a California higher end-A. Faustini Wines-Beachhouse #34-08-$30-delish..as far as favorite GL's cheeses..hands down Beemster XO and Polder Gold 1 Year Goat Gouda by Henri Willig..you can drink both with any wine since they are so damm good. http://www.winelx.com

  • Agreed JAY!

  • Steve_T

    qotd: white burg and gruyere

  • Fancy meeting you here…… ; )

We we're talking about Tom Waits….. any favourite tracks???

Qotd: If you are high-rolling at the moment then some blue cheese and maybe a half bottle of d'Yquem…. ; (
Not the greatest QPR in the world i know…!

  • Phredd3

I haven't made it through the whole episode yet, but where do I get one of those shirts? Don't see them in the Swag section.

  • Who's the daddy???

  • That sounds nice, will try it if i win the lottery…. ; )

  • 818=8/18 My birthday!

  • Phredd3

Nope, not mentioned. Dude, you gotta offer those.

    QOTD: Robusto and pinot blanc.

  • johnboston

you can have an intellectual, non-emotional conversation with this wine… nice

  • Link the cheese up Mott! 🙂

  • TDFord

Hey gary, this is my first comment although i've been a lurker for about a year now. Cool episode but a little short. I cant get enough wltv.

  • It's a little disappointing that the SB's didn't bring the thunder, but there are a ton of them out there that do.

As for Cheese & Wine pairing, Manchego and Mencía or Tempranillo is a fun and delicious pairing. Sorry, we don't have a link. Cheers!!!

  • Welcome… hooked as well ; )

  • Mott RULES!

  • Gary made the right choice with that goats cheese… classic combo with SB! He could also have gone with some young Grüner Veltliner…….

  • Chuck

Very disappointed that you didn?t taste the SERESIN, its different, Organic with 15% Semillon and more profound then those producers…. a give you a sniffy sniff, but its more a sniff sniff for not testing it…

  • Cbark423

Hey, been lurking for quite a while now but I had to step up and answer this question. My friend turned me on to watching WLTV and I've been hooked ever since. We would get together for cheese and wine every so often to relieve the stress of college. The best pairing I've ever tasted was Gruyere with a 2003 Marques de Riscal Roja.

  • Cbark423 whats up baby! Welcome

  • Yo G. Bring on the Laid Back Friday couch tomorrow,,,, Please!!!

  • Thnx TdFord

  • TheGreatWazu

GaryVee…I LOVE Piave Cheese! I love it with Maso Canali wine but I'd REALLY like another wine that you would suggest. You said you might show a pairing on your next .tv show. Just putting my humble request in with all the people. Your show was cool today. I love when you trash average wines and describe them as burning tires and mowing the lawn. It lends credibility to those you pump. Be well. Wazu

    frack twitter.

  • CharlieTN

Tawny port with a nice triple cream brie–brand doesn't matter as long as it's good quality.

  • NY Pete

    don't hold your breathe Allan.

  • DaNeener

Shaya with an aged Gouda. We love how the minerality of the Shaya works off the gouda. Try the cheese either solo or with an un-flavored water cracker.

  • 2008s? Aren't the 2009 NZ Sauv Blancs hitting the streets by now?

QOTD: Condrieu with Shrimp sauteed in Butter and Ginger or the classic foie gras and Sauternes

  • cowz

Brie with champagne can never go wrong!

  • lordsauvignon

QOTD: I would have to say that my staple combo is a Cab or Bordeaux with sharp white cheddar from Vermont. It's cheap and normally I will throw in some pepperoni just for some basic spice, along with some variety of wheat thins or triscuits.

  • ONUMello

Oh joy, the first downside of the new amazing comment section: I tried to post a comment with the requested links from GL and it requires moderator approval. Hopefully it'll be up soon 🙁 Anyone else have/not have that trouble?

  • M_Woolley

Speaking of sauvignon blanc, has anyone had the late Didier Dagueneau's wines? I think the latest vintage is his last. The prices are really high, but I heard they are worth it.

  • cubs2806

QOTD Cowgirl Creamery REDHAWK with a Sauterne or any red wine for that matter, love that stinky stinky cheese!!!

  • ONUMello

Another thought while I wait for my cheese recommendations to be moderated… This should just go to show why every score anywhere ever (and fellow Vayniacs who sell out every wine GV screams about, this includes GV, although I'm the pot calling the kettle black) should be taken with a grain of salt and everyone should trust your own palate. I just bought the Coopers Creek from WL last month for no reason other than the WS score. I think I'll open it tonight & post my own tasting note here just for a fun comparison.

  • alexkeywest

GV I know you're trying to promote your cheese business, but I don't see NZ SvB's with their citrusy sharp style as a pairing with an aromatic soft gost cheese. Stick with the raw bar with these wines. Goat cheese, as most cheese, needs a red.

  • tracy mercer

What?? No Mimolette at Gourmet Library??? My favorite cheese, so much that I named my dog Mimolette . . . it's great with a big jammy Syrah or Shiraz.

  • QOTD: cheese and wine pairing beyond my previous food and wine pairings would be a manchego topped with membrillo paired with a Provencal Rose

  • Gourmet Library needs to get some premium cheese curd in stock!

QOTD: I am of the camp that thinks beer pairs better with cheese.

  • And the “cheese world” too. I am sooo excited to see you pairing wines with cheese especially now I can order and get free shipping. Thank you

Good show as always about a wine I drink and experiment with often. My go-to NZ SB is the Oyster Bay. Downright delicious and had it this past weekend at the DC Wine Expo and blew away 90% of the wines I tasted.

QOTD: Like you, I love the soft cheeses though my fav pairing would be Manchego with Champagne.

P.S. Your T-shirt is oh so true in my world. Where can I get one?

  • castello

And give it a whirl with some damned cheese!

  • Wrong, wrong, wrong. The SB pairing is spot on. Nice going V.
Whites are usually much better with cheese than the reds, because of higher levels of accidity.

  • johnr

GS, Gary when are you coming to NC? A ton of Vaniayacs and NC Cindies are waiting!

  • ONUMello

Or better yet a nice beer batter for those delicious cheese curds that are then deep fried… yummm. I hear ya, Patrick.

  • Agreed Allan, I adore Alexkeywest but he missed this diss 🙂

  • Great show! Love NZ Sauv Blanc! I'll have to try the Mount Nelson.

QOTD: Has to be a Sharp Parm with an Italian red (maybe La Catturga or '05 Umbria Merolt) simply delicious (I'm sure a Barolo or Brunello probably would slay my wine paring but haven't had a chance to try as a CKC).

  • cubs2806

deepfried cheese curds rule, just had them for the first time the other night. The person that introduced them said to dip them in ketchup……have you heard of this and what did you think?

  • zHeadless

“You can have an intellectual non-emotionnal conversation with this wine”. Hahahahaha nice one GV!
