line of the day – ‘At 40 US dollars this is borderline ‘I stole your wallet’

Sound quality was a little off and I wasn’t mad about the guest. He was doing his best to please GV with his comments and that’s not what this whole thing is about. You can’t win them all…

aargh! Dinner's out of the oven- will have to watch later!

  • Cool guest. Bubbles are Fantastic! ( the audio was not the best but no worries ).

QOTD: don't have a particular favorite since I like to experiment with food and wine pairings, some wines fair better than others with food.

  • mattgmann

camera guy needs a tripod too…..getting a little dizzy

  • mmmm bubblies..just had a fun bubbly Cab Franc Rose the other day…Tete a claque…very nice.

  • Guest episode = PPPPPPPPPPPPAAAAAAAAZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ (I'm outta here)

  • cellarrat5

man Waynoooooooooooooooo you went apppppppppeeeeeeeeeee sssssssshhhhhhiiiittttt today!!!!!!!!

  • cellarrat5

Decent show, I missed Mott. I think the camera person was having a grand maul seizure. Brian picked up more on the bubbles than I thought he would, but I was not too impressed with his QOTD.

QOTD: I could not pick a favorite. Right now I guess it is Touriga, but that will change in the next week or so. And I don?t think Gary has had a varietal specific Touriga on the show yet, correct me if I am wrong (and let me know which ep it is).

  • mattgmann

“royal with cheese”…..this guy loves his jokes. And I think he wants to fly kites and have a picnic with gary.

Good episode none the less. I'd love to see a super value sparkler show in the near future…maybe some brown bags

Qotd: Honestly, kind of a cop out question…..what varietal do I like the most? Well, GV has a lot of good shows with Grenache based wines and I drink a lot of them…so I'll go with that. But now that spring is here (despite the freak snow storm last night), it's time to lighten up for a little while.

  • castello

    Really into Merlowwwwwwwwwwwww lately.

  • srdonjulio

Dude…. absolutely turned off by your guest Bri Ann Sole Iss (it actually should be pronounced: Sole Ees, with a Spanish accent). Trust me… look at my username. Sorry. Whenever someone has an ethnic last name, be proud of it and pronounce it the way your father would want you to pronounce it.
I enjoy the bubbly, but not this episode.

  • wayno da wino

    Yo cellarrat5 , throw a cold bucket a water on me……. πŸ™‚

  • srdonjulio

Dr Edwardo, we must have been cut from the same cloth because I agree with your PPPPPPAAAAAAZZZZZZ!

  • bobbytiger

    Love the bubbles.
Many, many years ago I drank enough Jacque Bonet to effectively put them out of business, and replaced them with Cooks Brute. [Yep, I am a cheap date]. For $6 or $7, it delivers all that I need. Nice taste and very satisfying. (We drink Sparkling wines before dinner, and wine with dinner).
When I splurge, I like Rhoeder or Tattinger Brute. But I don't splurge too often.
    QOTD- #1 Sparkling wines
#2 Torrentes in a tie with Chardonnay
    #3 Malbec

  • wayno da wino

    aaaaahh, oooooooooohhhh…….. πŸ™‚

  • Missed you and your tripod Mott.
    Happy crowd tho.

QOTD: it's not like a chinese menu that one could pick from. even if there is one we really like, I think a lot of us keep coming back to find the great that one we have not tried yet.

  • Allan

Had a St-Estephe this evening, i believe that's mainly merlot. 2004 Charme de Cos Labory, Niceeee!

Have a great weekend, you old………..

  • Allan

Like The Statue Of Liberty Of Wine??? ; )

    GROWER CHAMPAGNES? REALLY GV??????????
These brands are not grower champagnes by any stretch of the imagination. they are small negociants who produce less champagne than LVMH – Moet, Clicquot, Mumm, Pommery, etc
They do NOT classify as RM – who use less than 5% purchased grapes.

This group is kind of the middle class of champagne, they typically own substantial tracts in addition to their purchases, and make generally very high quality champagne, at a smaller scale than those mentioned above.

I like Fine Wine mags book Finest Wines of Champagne classification of domaines for this middle class, rather than negociants or grower champagne.

    EDUCATE GV, don't patronize

  • Allan

    Don't get too excited..

  • nitaT

    gotta love bubble shows!

QOTD: champagne, chateauneauf du pape, burgundy.

  • robrx

I just had the Charles Heidsieck Reserve with sushi last night. It was an excellent match IMO I give it 90+ points. It was not at all thin as you describe. I have had the wine several times before with similar happiness. Could you have had an off or really old bottle somehow?

I will look for the Gratien
    QOTD–Syrah

  • Oude Hendrik

Cool ending. Gary protects his intellectual property. The true Vaniak need not ask the question. The answer is, variety is the spice of life. Great episode. Very apropos for me personally.

QOTD: Based on my carefully logged (and to the nth degree) wine adventure, I would say.. my favorites are never a single varietal.

  • Jaybird76

Right now I'm really diggin' Nebbiolo, but no one favorite varietal because it always seems to change.

  • drt999

QOTD — Cab-based blends for reds, Grenache-based for pinks (although a certain PN pink is pretty great), so I'll have to go Riesling, since it stands alone!

  • castello

I feel a little old today. Have a good one and I'll chat you up on Mondy.

    NVG- No Value Guest

  • Darren Rowse with the video bomb

  • guymandude

Love the crowd noise, why go see Gary and talk the whole time?

  • hokiewino

I'm going to have to go Malbec even though I did have a really good spanish tempranillo last night.

  • Hypersomnia

    ZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz…………

  • Batresq

Recently been drinking lots of Malbec so right now that is my choice.

  • What a fun (though pimping from your guest) show today. As you, I love da bubbles so any show on Champagne piques my interest. if only people knew the history of the Champagne area it would enlighten them even more of this delectable elixir. There are some good books out there but that's for another day.

QOTD: 1) Champagne 2) Pinot Noir 3) Champagne

    Cheers!

P.S. I visited Chateau Boyer (Pommery) in Reims and they make some amazing Champagne, most notably for my palate, Apenage. The restaurant, Les Crayeres (The Caves) was quite memorable.

  • 2 bad champagnes? Well, keep on pouring the other stuff then
