QOTD: I'm thinking of it in a cocktail now…

  • jasaunders

Love Armagnac, loved the show. I see a glass of Armagnac and a cigar in my future….

  • Steve_T

qotd: I generally don't like to put very expensive spirits into cocktails, it feels like a waste. My rule of thumb for base spirits in a cocktail is use a good one, not a great one.

  • yacochuya

Great show and given that I dont like spirits too much, was surprised I watched the whole show. Great guest and makes me want to look for it. Though, like you said, I tend to only drink spirits when I have had a lot (okay, too much) wine.

How 'bout a Baja Cali wine tasting?????

  • PeterKT

Very interesting. One of the more educational episodes of recent memory.
QOTD: Substitute Armagnac instead of sweet Vermouth when making your next Manhattan.

  • slave2thevine

This was a GREAT show! It was great to have this all in one and not broken down. It was also great to get some knowledge about Armagnac. I think I've only had it 2-5 times and it's something I'm interested in learning more about after this.

QOTD: Never tried it in blending…

  • slave2thevine

I'd rather have it all at once than broken down…

  • tinynaish

Very educational; passionated guy. Maybe your best interview ever!
And it is nice to see that amazing but still underrated spirit getting out of the shadow (I am a Toulouse Lover btw 😉 )

    Thanks again Gary.

  • guymandude

That really was a very interesting and informative show, one of the best.

Also, it was one of your best interviews, no interruptions, great questions, etc.

  • amsgpwarrior

Awesome show. I enjoyed this show tremendously. As a Filipino, we are one of the largest consumers of brandy in the world, and I love the occasional cognac. I am very intrigued by armagnac and believe I would love it as well. My local wine merchant in Austin, TX, has been pushing me to try armagnac for some time, so next time I head to his shop I will definitely pick up a bottle. I would love to see more shows like this with the great education factor.

  • DCaragher

GV – GREAT SHOW! I don't have much experience with the “ARM,” but I gotta get into it! I love the single malts, so I suppose it is just fitting!

QOTD: Sorry, I have not cocktail ideas for you bro…

GARY HIT ME UP…I WANT TO REVIEW FOR CORK'D!!!!!!!

  • cellarrat5

    Good point

Sent from my NSA brain implant

  • M_Woolley

As bad as the last guest was, that's how good this one was. Bravo. The sign of a great show is making me go out and try Armagnac (which I will do this weekend).
Please remember to keep the bottles from obscuring the guest.

Gary, soleras are for Sherry or Aussie port style wines, but not Ports. and also.. a so called 40 year old tawny is what you are talking about blending an average age.. but other than that there are never tawnys that are date aged from Port that are solera. .. A Colheita port is dated, and all from the SAME vintage.

  • Ellio

    OK,

GV, THAT WAS ONE OF THE BEST !!!!
Denis was a great Great Guest, I wish I could have been there.
    GV,

    Thanks for putting episode together.
Your interview and questions really helped me alot!! A Great Education.
I'm all in, can't wait to go to the local spirit store tommorrow.

So for after diner we now have:
Brandy, Scotch, Single Malts, Cognac, Tequlia, Cigars, Ice Creme and now ARMAGNAC.

nice show, I just found out I'M a LURKER !!
who knew. thank's for letting me know that

  • Great show
    QOTD;no I have not.

  • David Haskell

Gary – Love the content, you're always providing great information. One small request… i don't need much production value, however, its really annoying to watch when you leave the bottle in front of your face or your guest's face as they talk. I feel like something as simple as that takes away from the show

  • wesleymcallister

I have never had an Armegnac but I guess it is another thing to add to the list.

I really enjoyed the interview. Lots of valuable information shared.

Gary, So glad you are talking about “distilled wine” for a change and getting the word out about the 700 years of Armagnac, the oldest spirit in France. Please allow us to present several other Armagnac brands for tasting; Delord, Marie Duffeau, Chauffe Coeur and Dartigalongue – all outstanding brands. We spoke to you about it last year in Boston and would be happy to drop by. http://heavenlyspirits.jimdo.com/700-years-of-a

I just might get the 1974 Armagnac for my birthday. What a crazy thought…ok, maybe I'll start with the $80. The fact that you pointed out that the whole thing was kept in the barrel for that long of a time made me appreciate it more. Seriously, I had Armagnac envy throughout the show. Made me want to learn more about it, too. Thanks, Gary and Denis!

  • adrums

GV – Fantastic show. Denis was a great guest with fantastic energy and enthusiasm. Since he was educating you to a considerable extent, along with the rest of us, the dynamic between you was more balanced than with previous guests, with whom (some have argued) you have a tendency to finish expressing points or thoughts for them… Here you seemed less able to fill in the gaps of what he was driving at since you were waiting to find out also… It made for an engaging and enlightening half hour. Bravo!
QOTD: I might try making an old fashioned with some… but not with that Extra stuff, or with any vintage juice… sheesh!

  • wesleymcallister

And we are both members of the Canadian Contingent. I am from Calgary.

  • Scott from Salt Lake

I love these educational show when GV is alongside the producer. I will be sure to look into trying Armagnac's

  • johnfarrin

Loved the show, loved the guest, loved the interview and, most of all, loved the educating.

QOTD: I have been fortunate to taste at least one very good to great Armagnac in my life and Denis, please don't even trhink about bastardizing that nectar by making a cocktail with it. To me, that's the worst of America. Taking something fine and unique and then finding something trendy to put it with to make it sell rather than finding an exciting way to educate the public about the intrinsic value of that fine thing. Plus, it would be like putting lobster with velvetta.

  • stephenjohnbryde

I'm from Kelowna, originally from Australia though. i already love hockey though

  • andyweeks

Thanks so much for posting this…Armagnac is something I've been curious to learn about for a while now, but there's not much available where I live here in middle Georgia, but I've had some Cognac and Scotch that I've enjoyed. Looking forward to trying Armagnac for the first time soon. Excellent show, didn't mind the length one little bit with all the useful information.

  • Jay

Very nice guest and lots of info. Great show! Thanks GV and Denis Lesgourgues!

  • zrm

I love the spirit of the show! I love the mix up doing a spirit. Awesome. What a great interview. Solid Guest. I certainly don't roll in dough to buy anything he's got but ill certainly give armagnac a try.

QOD: Make a Side Car with it! I like my sidecar equal parts Spirit and Cointreau and half a part lemon juice with a dash of orange bitters and a dash of sugar syrup. Shake then strain then enjoy.

  • Bill

    Great ep. really enjoyed it.

  • rshidla

Long time lurker. This was the first episode I watched end to end. Very informative. I'll now be looking for a young Armagnac to try. Thanks for all you do in this space, garyv.

  • Alex

    I'm a CKC…and sorta a lurker.
I don't think i can afford any Armagnac though.

    Awesome wltv.

  • Pierre

    Great episode
    Been away for awhile
    I quite enjoy old Armagnac
The only thing that a french friend showed me with
    Armagnac is a “ptit canard”
You put a sugar cube in your glass and then suck
    the Armagnac from the cube..
    Thanks!

  • Fantastik! GV-this is one of the best shows and yes I had to stick with it all the way cuz it was all about the 411 on Armagnac. Thank you so much Denis Lesgourgues for sharing your passion and bringing the thunder! I'm not a spirits girl but I realllllly want to taste this. You engaged and captivated, lead and listened! Great interview…you never cease to amaze!!

QOTD: No- but it sounds wonderful! Can't wait to see the recipes!

I might have to start watching Rugby!! 😉

  • PurpleGrillz

Gary…. don't hate the lurkers… remember hate only hurts the hater… words to live by
