    EVER!

  • Anonymous

Cool. I’ll be watching for the 2010’s!

  • NY Pete

nice camera work … that is all.

  • wayno da wino

    eerrrr SCOOP, not scope…..

  • yes a dangerous summer sipper…if I remember correctly (if not someone please set me straight), that was the only vineyard that came with their winery building, and that they have to contract for all of their pinot noir. At the time of the sale it was not seen of high value in that neighbothood, but I think a lot of folks are glad they are working it.

  • Love the Cloudy Bay. First SB I really liked

    – New Guy

  • castello

    top five?

  • QOTD: Favorite is the DeLille Cellars Chaleur Estate Blanc. and Least Fav is probably Oyster Bay… It smelled like little 13 year old B.O. to me.

  • Looking forward to it

  • castello

Don't drink it enough to say. Did you tell Lizzy to buy Honig Sav Blanc?

  • Claus

    Best SB: Chasing Venus, 2008
Worst SB: Some disgusting Fume Blanc out of CA bought at Trader Joes, oaked ot the hilt.
Love the NZ Sauvignon Blancs, but Nobilo is turning out mass market horse piss these days. However, the Dashwood at $8+ is amazing as well and proves there is still some value in NZ SB.

  • I like the brown bag…adds an element of suspense and excitement.
It was fun to see Mott get some face time…and by face time I mean crazy-up-close-face-time ๐Ÿ˜‰
QOTD: For an inexpensive Marlborough SB, Frenzy was pretty nice – lots of grapefruit.

  • norcalwingman

Would you wear a shirt that says Brian Wing is not the coolest?

  • Allan

    top 10 brown!!!

  • Allan

    Champion!!!

  • Howard Bernstein

O.K. Bumblefoot you stepped in it. Agreed the Grieve is overpriced and I haven't tasted the 08 S.B. from Lede but the 07' was superb and well worth the $20. Currently fave S.B. is the 08' Destinea Sauv. Blanc from Joseph Mellot/Eagle Eye Imports. Good value S.B. from the Loire Valley. Give it a try. Just not blind or double blind.

  • qotd: can't think of a least favorite, but as far as California is concerned, I enjoy the Miner and Cakebread Sauv Blancs.

  • Allan

Mott is the coooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooolest camera guy ever!!!!!!!!

  • matthewjhale

it's great when you zoom in on Mott's face. it's funnier when he tells you not to do it, and then you do it anyway, but still good. i don't even remember the last sb i had, but now i'm in the mood for it.

    SSSSSSWWWWWWWEEEEEEEEETTTTTTTT! All week long!

  • davidemillombard

THAT was a synchrodestiny moment…too funny! Still too 'rookie' ..got no names.

I have realized the past week eating out that I like the mild butter action from the Cali chards, etc.

  • Anonymous

This is the best idea ever. Period!

  • Allan

    K-murph rocks!!!

  • mattgmann

    Brooooooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwnnnnnnnnn Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaggggggggggggs!

  • Allan

And Mott!! What can i say, I love u!

  • amsgpwarrior

QOTD: I like Sancerre's personally, but have no specific wine in mind. When I first got into wine I used to drink Kim Crawford SauvBlanc's alot with food and still consider it reliable in a pinch for around the $10 price tag.

And since I just got back from the Hill Country of Texas for a massive wine tasting, I just have to say to those wineries out there that make sauvignon blanc to GIVE IT UP and STOP!!!

  • Allan

    Really Nice show man!

Qotd: Terrunyo Sav Blanc, i think is nice.
Also Cloudy Bay! But at that price point, the Terrunyo wins!!! Big time!!

Mott is awesome, he should be on more!

  • HAHA You got owned today GV! Funny episode! Mott's not going to sit down anymore if you keep giving him the extreme closeup though

QOTD: I am not much of a Sav Blanc drinker, but really my favorite everyday goto is plain old Kim Crawford Sav Blanc…I know it isn't exciting, and kinda lame but it's crisp and tasty and it's good cold. When I drink white wine I usually drink it at cellar temp, but if I'm having sav blanc I'm kicking back in the backyard with a cold glass of wine. Worst sav blanc? I think someone already said Trader Joes….I was at a party where the person was only pouring freakin chucky shaw….the sav blanc tasted like watered down vodka that someone sprayed a few drops of lemon pledge in. The worst part was the person that kept bloviating about how good Charles Shaw was, and blah blah blah. Worst part is, I took over a bottle of Chateau du France white Bordeaux and didn't even get to taste it…I'm sure someone made a freakin spritzer with it. I'm such a snob haha!

  • Allan

    YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!

  • MOTT-Cam Zoomy Zoom…LOVE IT. WTG KMurph with the curve ball. Based on the nose notes, I probably would have made the same observation if I smelled what you did, GV. Jet lag and other factors happen to all of us.

QOTD: I do drink Sancerre once in a while, but don't have one producer I head to. For Cali, I also enjoy the Cakebread SB. Worst? Haven't had any abominable SBs in the past few years personally.

  • DmitriEn

    Loved the episode!

QOTD: Best SB – Some greek wine at a restaurant in Crete
Worst: Cheap chilean ones that taste like water

  • Tau_Digamma

    Hey Gary,
Haven't watched the show in a while, but what a great episode. You gotta love blinds.
QOTD: I hate Robert Mondavi's Fume Blanc, it's just wrong for the varietal.
QOTD: One of my favorites is Kim Crawford.

  • Well, not even the honed palate and nose of GV can guess the region, that makes an amateur like me happy. Still, i do find proof in this episode that his palate is changing, right ๐Ÿ™‚

QOTD: Best Sauv B I ever had Chรขteau Coucheroy 2005. Worst Gato Negro (Chile), from a box.

  • mattgmann

This is silly, but I really dig a cheap sauv blanc called Pomelo. It's not very serious, but it's light and refreshing, and goddammit, it actually tastes like Pomelos. I always break it out for parties as it goes well with most appetizers.

Least fav…..I dunno. No horrific sauvignon blancs come to mind. I've had some 2 buck chucks and the like left at my house as party favors that tend to be horrific. My friends have horrendous taste for the most part and my closet grows fuller and fuller of the really bad, cheap wine they bring.

Like I said though, I can't think of a terrible sauv blanc. I tend to think of it as a variety that is pretty easy going and hard to completely fuck up.

  • yeee haw! Double BB SB!
just got confirmation of our Chilean wine grape order shipping…got 6gals of SB juice coming as well…will probably start a wild ferment when it gets home and comes up to temp, and we'll probably just let it ride.

  • Allan

Try Terrunyo from Concha Y, it rocks!

  • Bredsun

Definitely love the brown bag, if only cuz it keeps you honest, Gary.

QOTD: Fav- Larkmead Sauv Blanc from Napa, easily the best white wine I've ever had.
Least Fav- Hanna…just a weird/slimy mouth feel, and its the only one I can remember that I didn't like.

  • Love Blind, hate SB.

QOTD: Favorites are the Didier and hate the rest.

  • gubbiotti

    nice little BB show.
qotd – i am stumped. i cannot say my favorite or least favorite S B!!!!! when i got to whites, i go toward reisling ( alsace, germany), chenin blanc (loire), white burg or bubbles. i have some ladoucette in my cellar that i should pop soon. clos roche blanche is very good for the $$$. i need to go get some SB soooon dude! i feel embarrassed

  • DCaragher

GV – BROWN BAGGIN' IT BABY! Good show…love the phone call…go double blind!

QOTD: I love the Merry Edwards SB and don't like the Monkey Bay SB!

  • Great episode, I like the brown bag idea…

I haven't had much experience with SB, so I can't really say what's my fav or least fav… although, I am inclined to go and pick one up now.

  • SamKw

Let's go Brown Bag Extreme! I don't believe I've ever seen you do a double-blind show.

QOTD: Not a big Sauv Blanc drinker, but SB and I usually get along, provided it's not watery and bland (e.g. Los Vascos Sauv Blanc). Still looking for that one to rock my view on the grape, though.

  • the agony of defeat, the joy of victory, and a rare close up appearance of Mott's lips…
great show…looking forward to the rest of the BB shows.
QOTD:BEST – I guess I don't always require a lot from SB, just that it be clean, crisp, and have fresh acids. Patricia Green Cellars makes a very nice one, but low production hard to get a hold of, there is something beautiful and delicate about the St. Bris which I gather is the only SB in Burgundy, Concha Y Toro's Palo Alto white is one we just had the other night, and it was great for a commodity juice…
WORST – I don't know, I've generally spent a few extra bucks and purchased a known wine, or going on good advice…don't think I've been skunked bad enough…maybe disappointed, but never pissed.

  • Dude I am always HONEST ๐Ÿ™‚

  • YES! ๐Ÿ™‚

  • adrums

That was a lot of fun. Fantastic call-in from the wife, sometimes the wine gods are laughing at us all…
QOTD: Doesn't quite qualify but Smith Haut Lafite '06 blanc (90%) sauvignon rocked my face off last week.
Other than that, I love the Merry Edwards S.B. from the russian river valley in CA (a little bit modern with new oak involved).
Not a huge fan of the Kim Crawfords generally… too much oyster shell or something.

  • Gary you should read comments on the air again! Or open up a pack of football cards just randomly!

  • Allan

    Yeah!!!

    Old-school Rocks!!!

  • jeffg

I love Sauvignon Blanc. Some comments notwithstanding, some of the past Mondavi Fume Blanc Reserve wines have been favorites. The wines, my palate or both seem to have changed, though.

Cloudy Bay has been a recent favorite (once hard to get, now too pricey for what it is) got me into New Zealand SBs which I continue to love. Best recently? Probably Stags Leap WC… I know… not NZ but what can I tell you.

Worst? Almost anything from Chile… I recall a Manta which was particularly memorable as being unmemorable.
