  • Should go all the way then, and have K-murph or Ian put the wine in decanters…Gary's pretty sly, and can get a few hints from the bottle…i.e. style, color, weight, closure!!

  • Allan

We know that already, man! : )

  • flavasauce

QOTD: Best-Cotat (can't remember which one) Sancerre.
Worst-probably a Cali SB. New oak and SB don't mix IMO.

  • QOTD: i haven't tasted enough sauvignon blanc to say, so i will answer the question of the chalk board…you can come to the detroit area on your next book tour. i would be grateful.

fyi- the phone call you got from your wife or “bear” only confirms that you two are soul mates

  • payson07

    Love the brown bag shows!

QOTD: Favorite- Woollaston SB (New Zealand). Very good NZ SB, but more subtle flavors, not too over the top. Pretty good value for $ as well.
Worst- Two Oceans SB (South Africa) – would not even cook with it!

  • lawschooldrunk

QOTD: best is goose bay from NZ

  • smiledoc

Thanks KMurph for getting the Grieve on WLTV, you know Gary you should chill these wines a bit so they taste similar to what most viewers experience, that's what you can do 4 me, LOL. Thank you! William Grieve

  • ONUMello

Wow, I was going to come in and say how I wish you had done more wines in the tasting, only to love every minute of this episode for at least 3 reasons:
    1. I think this is the first time in at least the 300+ episodes I've seen that We've had anything from Lizzie live, you mention her so much yet she's been a stranger
    2. MOTT makes an appearance
    3. Your reaction to the Lede
QOTD: Fav (of those I've had) tie for the 07 Nobilo & 08 Kim Crawford (both from NZ & 90 pts in my book)
Least: tie for 2008 Michel Lynch Bordeaux & 2009 Casa Lapostolle Chile (both 84 pts for me)

  • ONUMello

    Agreed.

  • waynoooo daaaaa winoooo

    WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BLIND TASTIN' in daaaaaa HIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIZZZZZZZZYYYYYYYYYYY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :O)

  • castello

    What are you watching?

  • Allan

No do it now man!!! It's cooollllllllllllllll!

  • alexthebrit

    That was a little bizarre….

QOTD;Current Fav is an 09 Invivo from New Zealand, least favourite a generic Tourraine sauv blanc 12 months or more after bottling. The fruit dissipates completely leaving nothing

  • mschmidt64

I'm a lurker, but constant viewer. Saw you GV on the Denver stop of the Crush It! Tour.

Love, love, love the brown bag eps. Never miss them!

  • Allan

“There's a killer on the road,
his brain is squirming like a toad…..”

  • laurieinvt

That was fun! Mott's not going to let you touch that camera again!
QOTD: I haven't had any horrible Sauvignon Blanc, but no standout either. They aren't my go-to white. When I think of SV, I think of the wine served at a cocktail party which is there only to be an inoffensive option to liquor (as far as I can tell).

  • NY Pete

    hey hey

  • slave2thevine

    QOTD:

My least favorite Sauvignon Blanc has to be Indaba from South Africa. It's ok…it's drinkable…but that's about all I could say about it.

My favorite Sauvignon Blanc is HANDS DOWN the 2005 Didier Dagueneau Pur Sang. Just a glorious bottle of Sauvignon Blanc that stops me in my tracks and leads me to think that this is a grape that needs more attention. I wish I had more…I would love to get more..but it has finally hit the stratosphere as I just saw a bottle for $150

  • What do u guys think of this video ? http://content.corkd.com/2010/04/14/state-of-th

  • Allan

    hey hey Slacker!

  • slave2thevine

+1 I agree that Patty Green makes an awesome Sauvignon Blanc

  • jasaunders

Favorite Sauvignon Blanc – just about any Sancerre from 2005. Worst, Kim Crawford. Like eating a grapefruit's ass. Horrible

  • Allan

    “Excitable boy they all said!….”

  • camira43

im a lurker for a reason. i can never answer your questions because i can never remember names of wines. varietals and years is about as far as i can go.

  • mattgmann

    meh…

  • JCN

GV, I couldn't DISAGREE with you more. I love Cliff Lede SB. I think it's very grassy with sharp acidity. Completely disagree with the comparison to New Zealand. I feel it is unlike all of the typical $10-$15 NZ SBs. Is $20 a little pricey? Absolutely. It's still a killer SB!

I'm a Lede wine club member. They offered a 'euro case' which is apparently 18 bottles to all of their members at a discounted price of about $15. I didn't pick it up but wish I did. Really don't need 18 bottles of ANY SB laying around though.

  • jaybloxham

Mott chewing on the wine in the close up was priceless. Mott you sure do have a purddy mouth!!!!! LOL
    QOTD: I don't like SB

  • jason carey

Gary … pay the money for Final cut Express..please .. fix the annoying graphic level change.

Also 35$ for a SB from Cali?
I can Get a super duper Pouilly Fume or White Bordeaux for that price.

  • email mott 😉 cmott@winelibrary dot com

  • Allan

    C'mon man!

Learning about wine, prices etc.. is what it's all about, otherwise you might do some bad deals out there!! in the real world!!

  • WOW JCN I totally disagree, I taste a lot of NZ Sauv Blance, I mean I just came back from NZ and tasted a ton, thats why I thought it was NZ-like! Man, different palates, huh?

  • its cool 😉

  • mattgmann

    lol@imminent mott-spam

  • mattgmann

GV, I'd still like to see a value sparkler show. I've been searching for a go-to bottle of bubbles in the $10 range that has nice acidity to go with the LEO.

  • mattgmann

Nice play on the spam G.

  • Snarf

My least and most favorite SB is NO SB!

  • Cristian M.

In just one page I've read 4 references to bad sauvignon blanc from Chile. Let's be honest, most of the wine mentioned as “bad or worst” sells for 1 to 2 bucks in Chile (Gato Blanco… give me a break). That's the price of a bottle of soda. I can't think about a single wine considered good at that pricepoint, regardless of its origin. It is really a shame to discover that we are getting a bad name for cheap wine, as opposed to the GREAT WINE we are grateful to have. I BET BET BET anyone in this community, that a good $20 to 30 bones Chilean Sauvignon Blanc could kick ass any other appellation at that pricepoint, and maybe at double that price also (double blind folded, of course, to avoid that “smell of prejudge” I'm getting).

On a possitive sidenote, Thanks for the highly awaited Mott's cameo.

  • mattgmann

    +1

  • I like the blind brown bag taste tests. Keeps you on your toes Vaynerchuk! I can't give you the QOTD answers. Don't drink enough vino. I'm trying! I'm trying!

That whole phone thing reminded me of the bloopers in Rush Hour 2. Why I remember it I have no freggin' idea. Oh look. Thanks you tube! 2:52 mark.

  • Hahahahahahaha I liked your reaction when seeing it was a Napa!

QOTD: Best, i'd say the Les Bines Pouilly Fumé from Michel Bailly. The worst, hmmmmmm. I don't know, probably I don't remember names of awful wines as good as the names of good wines…. stupid me. 😉

    Cheers

  • K is for Kate

    Fun episode!

QOTD: I have had probably 6 Sauvignon Blancs in my life, 4 of which were at a tasting of New Zealand wine a couple of weeks ago, so those are what I'm replying based on.

My LEAST favourite by far (and the most expensive) was definitely the 2007 Walnut Block Sauvignon Blanc. Smelled like seriously funky cat pee and tasted unripe and bitter/sour.

The two I enjoyed quite a bit (but didn't love) were the 2007 Quarry Road, which was very clean and crisp and simple with lots of grapefruit and would be perfect to take along on a picinic and the 2008 Glazebrook which was a lot more interesting with some peach and grassiness to go with the grapefruit and an overall stronger flavour and more body, but I didn't actually enjoy drinking that quite as much.

  • Definitely not surprised you blinded the Lede (which I believe is pronounced lady) as New Zeland. Had it (different vintage but tasting it I can't imagine much difference) a couple years back with Cliff Lede when he was in town. It has some New Zeland-esque qualities. I also agree it was pretty bad. I dug his Claret 05 and Stags Leap 05 Cab when I tried them, and have since tried his 04 Poetry which I liked too.

    QOTD:
Favorite(s): Not sure I have a favorite Sauvignon Blanc. Ones I've enjoyed though: Lail, Martinelli, Illumination (the first year Quintessa put it out, the subsequent 3 vintages have been pretty blah), La Doucette (even tried a 2000 two weeks ago and it was holding up fairly well). For the cheap price I don't mind the Terre Noble. I really want to try Lail's Georgia but at $90 it's pretty steep.

Worst: Foxbrook Sauvignon Blanc. Barely drinkable, like all their products.

Surprised you didn't use 2 glasses
