Lines of the day, This wine smells like a steak’ and Mott’s pretentious home run, ‘would you say it’s big but it doesn’t lose control’. I bet Mott can’t believe he said that.

Steee – rike. Great show helped by a couple of stonking wines

GaryVee, This show was a very Solid on all fronts. The biggest one being that you really looked like you wanted to be doing the show and creating content with passion. Last week is history, way to respect WLTV and what it means to you. It obvious from the comments what you mean to us. 🙂 BTW…. When ever possible, I'd rather have a flip phone episode than a canned product any day of the week. Love that those are in real time and not 3,4,5 days ago. With much respect 🙂

QOTD – A's of the early seventies, they also brought it on all fronts and killed it during there hey day. fun, Fun, FUN.

Great redemption for last week's brown bag shows- although it was totally the WINES that did not perform, and not the beloved host.

QOTD: Although I grew up in New England and went to college in Boston, I grew up in a Yankee household. By this I mean that my dad was a Yankee fan since his childhood, back when the Yankees were predominantly an Italian team- hence his allegiance, so he was not simply a bandwagon fan since the late '90s and early 2000's championships run.
LIKE GV I do not pay all that much attention to the baseball season, but I cannot erase the great memories of hearing the Yankees announcers calling the games on a warm summer night when I was a wee lad, especially when my dad would turn down the TV volume and turn up the radio coverage of the home games so that he could hear the home announcers over the TV station commentators. I also have great memories of going to NYC for the afternoon a couple of times in my youth to see a game in person, along with the incomparable smell of the sausage and peppers being cooked by vendors outside the stadium. I am not really a baseball fan, but I know and appreciate that when the Yankees are doing well, it is easier for my younger siblings who still live back home to endure my dad's mood swings that coincide with the baseball season!! Cheers!

Seattle Mariners and the 1995 season when they came back from 11 games out in August to tie the Angels and win a one game playoff then beat those hated Yankees in one of the best series in MLB history….anyway, I THINK that is my favorite season.

    P-Hilly

Not if it wins us the pennant. If the other teams are as easy to beat as a 5th grader I have no issue with it. Maybe they should spend some money and build themselves better teams. Red Sox did it, they realized that is what it takes to win. They went 86 years not spending money and where did that get them? They spent money and bam a championship. It takes money to win. Farm teams will only get you so far.

  • Anonymous

I say the Yankees stop paying money into the slush fund for all the hats and shirts they sell and let them have all of their money back. Then we will see just how much the other teams rely on the Yankees and Red Sox to fund their teams. Its funny no one wants socialism in the US govt, but they don’t mind it in baseball. Any team can spend just as much money as the Yankees, but they choose not to. Don’t hate on the Yankees because they choose to.

  • Thanks. But remember Allen, you take the blond and I’ll take the one with the turban. ; )

I’m still a Yankee fan, but I hated getting rid of Matsui. He is so clutch.

    Golden Granny Smith?
MOTT! 1961!!! Me to!! Cheryl Ladd Mott? Kate Jackson for me, pretty face is all, my girlfriend is cute as that 🙂
QOTD: Baseball, no sport in my country, but half of the nation is probably cheering the Devils on, due to all the swedes in that team.

HA! Profit sharing is almost non existent in baseball Jay. Let the yanks keep their dirty money; it wouldn’t make a difference.

A salary cap is whats needed, and to change the way free agency works. Salaries need to be tamed in general and talent spread out. Free agency was the first step is ruining baseball, and now the player’s union has grown so strong that nothing can change.

I can’t believe you’re comparing government politics to a spectator sport. That’s retarded. It’s a league. Better competition from top to bottom means better entertainment and revenue all around. That’s capitalism.

The NFL is run as well as any business on planet earth. Attendance is huge, parity is great, and product quality is also great. Because of this, football has become America’s sport.

If you think spending money is how to build a team, you obviously never competed in any sport higher than pop warner. And if you’re the kind of guy who just wants to watch one team beat up on a bunch of patsies, you lost your competitive spirit long ago. I’ll send you a Harlem Globe Trotters jersey for chirstmas.

  • Anonymous

Profit sharing is not “almost” non existent the Rays received 33 million in 06. I would love to be non-existent and get 33mil and that is just one team. If you do a Google search on profit sharing in MLB you will see you are not correct on the subject. As far as the “parity” being great in the NFL what about the Rams at 28 and 68 over the last 6 seasons and the Lions at 28 and 111 since 2001. Those are just two teams. There is always some awful teams in the NFL and always great ones. Does that make the Patriots bad because they dominate?

  • WineWoman

QOTD: YANKEES..Favorite year–one of those years with Paul O'Neill and Tino Martinez–the “old” Yankees probably late '90's early 2000's with all of those come from behind wins in a play-off or series game.
Am a BIG Justin Fan—you dissed it the last time you had it on the show. Think you were on the laid back friday couch using the wine boxes as a table and spilled it on the carpet. Mott might have had something to do with that–I'm not sure. It was too oaky for you back then. If you're embracing the oaky chards your palate might transition to the reds…????It was the 97 that was one of the top 5? wines of the year.

  • DaveAll

    so’s my girlfriend. yikes!

  • Bob Gray

What an improvement over last week. The thunder is back! However, you should watch the K-Murph episode back to back. That was a wonderful episode. That may be the best guest spot that I have seen on the show. You two had great chemistry. How about picking another region of France and letting her have another shot,eh? I continue to watch your show even though I can't buy most of these wines in Canada.
K-Murph brings a lurker out of the dark.

  • AJ

How can you claim to be a Twins fan? The Twins and Yankees should never be in the same sentence. You Poser.

There is enough profit sharing in baseball to keep the bottom small market teams from going under. They are barely able to field teams, let alone build dynasties. It’s negligible in the scheme of league performance and only pennies to the mega market teams.

There will always be a few teams that suck regardless of what system is in place. Overall though, the NFL sees a good turnover of teams moving up and down. The perennial basement teams are bad in spite of receiving every advantage.

The pats are a good example of what great coaching and management can do (but I still hate them).

Baseball is a broken sport. I love baseball. I played it all of my youth and was even drafted by the Pirates(though I had no chance of ever making a team). Any sport where the same teams are good year after year is boring. No amount of steroids will help baseball if half of the fan base is consistently alienated.

  • huskerjamie

Great show GV. I'm a Nats fan because I was an Expos fan growing up. RIP. Rock Raines for life.

  • Fun show…interesting side branches in the conversation.
The Foxen sounds great…has the backbone that new world pinots sometimes lack.
Going to a wine pairing tonight with wines from Bergstrom Vineyards…nice Pinots.

Raccoon Makeup? Is that a hold-over from Daryll Hannah in Blade Runner?

2007 Isocoles is maybe needing some more bottle age to integrate that monster.

QOTD:I think you asked this last year? I don't really follow anymore, but was a little kid watching the Yanks. It was a big year in 77, and my heart starting draining out of it after Munson died.

  • Cubatobaco (Ray)

    Good call, Randi! = )

I think Jerry Manuel is a better coach in some aspects. After Rex Ryan called the “playoffs”, a tournament, I lost a little respect for the guy…lol.

  • Love Foxen, their Syrahs are great too and the people there are really passionate. I am pretty sure it was the 97 Isosceles that got all the hype.
11/18/10?…..are you and Lizzie expecting again??!!

  • Karl

Fair play Gary, you made a conscious effort to revitalize your performance and it was a great show.

  • Craig Hamlet

Hey Gary, It's great to be back on the comments again. Although I never miss an episode, for some reason I have been lurking for the past several weeks and have not left a comment. But this was a great episode with my kind of wines so I'm back in. By the way, you got me good with the April Fool's thing.

  • Anonymous

Yes Ray, but Jerry Manuel’s not exactly charming the media.. So we’re good to let the tournament comment slide… no? I may not know much about it, but I still say, bring on Ryan! 😉

  • dkp

dope show gary, thanks for keeping it real.

  • kasperhip

That was tha GV of the hizzle dizzle in the muthafickin' shizzle. Back with the fizzle whistle to pizzle in your shackanizzle. GREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT show and nice to see the fabulous Thunder boys do a serious and in depth take on that californian grapejuice. Look forward to guest and more K Murph teasing later in the week.

  • jaybloxham

Did his number change to 28 this year? I hope so because it's the only way it can come true.

  • notTheFalseD

QOTD – Back when I cared about baseball a good deal more than I do now, the Yankees had a 114-48 season. Sensing the historical potential of what was unfolding, I managed to convince my father to get us tickets to a game. We ended up going to what turned out to be the Yanks 48th and final loss of the regular season. I don't think I've actually answered Gary's question, but I'll leave it at this for now.

  • Thursday

It goes well with bbq and alcoholic consumption…
…I’m in [but then again, what doesn’t]

  • kasperhip

Oh I must say: baseball and football is for loosers. A true gentleman cannot possibly condone the kind of irrational behaviour displayed in these vile and ugly sports. Therefore I cannot comment on the qustion of the day, but simply encourage you to take up tennis or golf. These noble occupations also go much better with a cool glas of montrachet and a salat, which of course is enjoyed in the country club, both before and after a game. See you there.

Ya Pads! Young guns this year

  • tell it like it is, baseball and american football is not one of the danish strong suit's 😀

  • JCN

Favorite team is the Pirates, it's been a rough couple seasons.

You can get on the Foxen mailing list, but their wine club (Anchor Club) is full and there is currently a looong waiting list. I've heard of people waiting years to get into the Anchor Club in order to get the auto shipments, free tastings, and most importantly a discount on the vino purchases. I feel like only a couple of their wines are distributed which limits the number of bottles you can get at a reasonable price. The others you have to buy direct and that gets expensive!

  • kasperhip

I felt like it had to be said in another way, but you're absolutely right… Danes don't know shit about football or baseball….which explains why we must pretend these sports to be utterly meaningless. As do most americans when it somes to soccer.

  • kasperhip

Wauw top 180 this time. I'm sooo pumped.

  • Terp00

Diehard Mets fan for 25 years…so many painful seasons.

I love the Foxen Pinot. I've had the Bien Nacido Block 8 and the Sea Smoke Vineyard, both excellent. Though, the Bien Nacido fits my budget a lot better 🙂

Huge fan of Justin Wines as well…working on a vertical of Isosceles (97 – 2005 so far…will need to add 06 and 07 soon.)

  • mattgmann

Tennis is a women's sport, and golf is a hobby, not a sport. I must be missing all of the vile behavior in the barbaric American sports I watch. I'll be sure to watch closer though. I love a good train wreck.
