Lines of the day, This wine smells like a steak’ and Mott’s pretentious home run, ‘would you say it’s big but it doesn’t lose control’. I bet Mott can’t believe he said that.

Steee – rike. Great show helped by a couple of stonking wines

Have you seen an American soccer game? It's like pulling teeth. A bunch of guys running around in circles who couldn't play football, baseball, basketball, hockey, lacrosse, tennis, golf, bowling, bicycling, charity fun runs, cornhole, frisbee, frisbee golf, carnival games, with dogs in parks, curling, duck hunting, bass fishing or NASCAR (in that order).

American soccer stinks. I'll watch an international game now and then, when for some reason I'm in a bar at 11am, when there's a live game on. Watchable soccer is a world away from us, just like good rugby.

  • The Lurker

    The candy is called Rockets,,
How about a show where you tell us what wines you will be tasting so we can taste along and leave comments, yes I know we can look, buy and replay,, but a show that is a “taste a Long” would be a hoot,,
    The Lurker,,,,

  • yeah, it's hard to stay awake huh?

    What's soccer?

    Go Cubs!

  • mattgmann

Now that I'm on a soccer rant, I just have to get some clarification. WTF is with the flop? Seeing grown men roll around on the ground like little girls when they bump shins is hands down, THE WORST THING IN SPORTS! It's bad enough in basketball when players use their acting skills to draw a foul, but at least they don't roll around like toddlers throwing a fit in the McDonalds Play Place. The worst of it is that they pop right back up after getting their way and continue playing. In other sports, faking an injury a disgraceful penalty.

Chicago Cubs all the way, every year, lose or lose, got to stick with the team.
    69 Cubs best team ever

QOTD: I'm born and raised in Pittsburgh & love all Pitt teams..as I should-with one exception; the Pirates. Am I a true baseball fan? NO..not really. But our ownership has sucked for years as they won't pay for talent. As a Pittsburgher living in Philly, I can tell you I am religious about the Steelers & the Penguins (Wohoo!), but not the Bucs. That said, I've really enjoyed watching the Phillies since arriving in this city in 2004 and consider myself a fan.

  • QOTD: Boston Red Sox. Even this year.

  • CharlieTN

Atlanta Braves 4 lyfe! We'll have to catch a lucky break to do anything exciting this year, but it could happen.

Nice recovery after the brutality of last week. Looking forward to Friday's Cindy pack–this CKC might actually be able to afford a 2-pack.

  • DaveyJohnson

    QOTD:
The NY METS! I was at the game last night to watch Ike Davis' 1st. There just seemed to be excitement in the lineup, god I hope he can pan out.

QOTD: My favorite year of baseball is a weird one, it is 2000. I'll never remember the games after 9/11 and the feeling that went along with them. Mike Piazza's HR on the 1st game back after 9/11 I will remember forever.

  • MichaelMA

I have to hand it to you — was having something of a meh day; watching your show during lunch brought a smile to my face. Thanks!

QOTD: NYY — although since I live in MA, I try to keep a low profile.

  • DanLacher

    QOTD: Colorado Rockies!

  • WOW! I usually leave something short and sweet… but here goes…

MOTT! I have FINALLY figured out why he is THE MAN! U ready? Cheryl Ladd, baby… was BAR NONE the best looking of ALL the Angels… on the opening credits in that white two-piece… I digress…

On to Foxen… loved Sideways and was a Foxen/Pinot fan WAAAAAY before the movie hit, and even though their wine is still epic, dealing with the winery/tasting room.. let's just say a little full of themselves… in 2006, went to taste, asked about their Wine Club.. response from them… “You'll NEVER get on… it has a wait of over 5 years, good luck”… Are you kidding? Have not been back since…

And for 11/18/10.. HAS to be Lizzy's due-date, correct? a Little GV clone in the Oven?

QOTD: Speaking of winged ones… the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the State of California… went BANANAS when we beat those hated Battery Chuckers in the 2002 WS… when Baker pulled Ortiz in game 6 and gave him the “game ball”.. let's just say KARMA, baby… the rest is history…

  • mob515

The Fightin Phls, Bummin on the Justin — as I have loved that wine in the past. Though your description of the Foxen quite literally made my mouth water. Keep bringing it

  • castello

But the cubbies choked in 69

  • shannaguzman

So Gary just last week a group of us did a blind pinot tasting. That Foxen was in it and up against a '06 Donum Carneros and '07 Siduri Rosellas and for me the '07 Foxen won hands down. It was interesting to compare the different regions Carneros, Santa Maria, to the Santa Lucia. Anyway, thanks for the great show and validating the “thunder” that Foxen brings to the table.

  • vinoreviews

Just got back from the Santa Barbara Vintners Festival in Lompoc and Foxen is definitely one of the better Pinot producers in that area. Was also impressed with Ampelos Cellars Pinot.

QOTD: Huge fan of the LA/Anaheim/California Angels (halos)!

  • Wasn't incredibly impressed with the latest Siduri, at least what they were pouring at their tasting room. Foxen does a nice job, even with it's relatively wide distribution.

  • Anonymous

They choke every year, 69 wast the best of the worst

  • Meh.

    QOTD: Mets

  • Richie

QOTD: Denver Rockies (used to live there, and the only team I know).

    cornhole???
    …learn something new everyday

  • mattgmann

cornhole= an ohio bred backyard game that's basically tossing some beanbags at a board with a hole in it. It goes well with bbq and alcoholic consumption.

  • I always thought 2 Pac was a rapper? ; )

  • adrums

QOTD: Red Sox. Raised in New England… tough start this go around.

  • RobNJ783

Hey, love the show wish I new about longer but then again I'm just really getting into wine so I guess it works for me. Absolutly love what you do here keep up the great work.

  • Phil

Well, that was an old school episode – GV was all over the place referanceing candy, meat, makeup, 70s and 80s TV, and the oak monster. I had no idea where the show was going, and I liked it.

QOTD – this should be obvious from other comments, but my favorite baseball team is the 27-time world Champion New York Yankees. They are looking great so far…

And speaking of Kevin Maas, when I was younger and into baseball cards, there was a summer when I bought as many of his cards as possible – since of course, he was going to be the next big thing. I think I have at least 50 Kevin Mass cards. Good thing he really had a great career…

  • theDude

That show was a little bit entertaining……..what a concept! 🙂

QOTD: The Bad News Bears (the original 1976 team that is!) is the best baseball team that ever played!!! Coach Butterfield says, “It's a league rule: cups and supporters gotta be worn at all times!” Words to live by!!

  • Thenry

On your comment aobut Foxen blowing up. They just built a new tasting room–major leap intothe commercial realm. Last I was up there they still had their old shack like room, Hope they keep it. '67 Impossible Dream Year.

When NOT to use air quotes:

    10) Never use air quotes when alone.

    9) Never use air quotes when discussing 'actionable intelligence'.

    8) Never use air quotes when recovering from carpel tunnel surgery.

    7) Never use air quotes when quoting scripture to the Congregation.

    6) Never use air quotes with anyone who knew, admired or wants to emulate George Carlin. (with love brother).

    5) Never use air quotes with a judge when talking about your ex-wife's attitude around late alimony payments.

    4) Never use air quotes to emphasize the word 'guilty' as in “not guilty”.

    3) Never use air quotes to define the word 'few' to the arresting officer when he asks “How many beers have you had?”

    2) Never use air quotes while talking on the telephone.

And the number one occasion when not to use air quotes:

    1) Never use air quotes to emphasis the word slept as in: “I never slept with that person.”

  • Orioles….although they can't seem to pull off 2 wins in a row this season, but like my Saints…every dog has it's day. 🙂

    so where's 849?

  • thescmayor

    Dodgers…..Foxen is gooooood

  • Gary, have you had horchata? I think it's the watery/milkshake combo you were going for in the description of the Foxen.

  • Oakmon's BF

Gary, with great power comes great responsibility. If you were to say ?Robert Parker is a wine expert? and you air quoted the word ?expert,? that would be an example of a misuse of power. As long as you wiggle your fingers for good and not evil, I?m cool with it.

  • Cory Hartman

1993 Detroit Tigers. Some classic names: “Sweet” Lou Whitaker, Rob Deer (coolest stash), actually saw him park one out of Tiger Stadium, Alan Trammell, Kirk Gibson, Mickey Tettleton, Cecil Fielder, and believe it or not, big man David Wells had a three year stint!

  • Vas

All Cubs baby. Except our bullpen is struggling big time so far.
