Lines of the day, This wine smells like a steak’ and Mott’s pretentious home run, ‘would you say it’s big but it doesn’t lose control’. I bet Mott can’t believe he said that.

Steee – rike. Great show helped by a couple of stonking wines

qotd: being from Baltimore, obviously the Orioles. Not a big sports fan though, and the Orioles haven't been that great in a long time. They had their hey day for sure many years ago. My fav time would be 1983 the only time they won the World Series in my life time, with both Jim Palmer and Cal Ripken on the team
I'm thinking maybe that wine had that haze because it wasn't cold stabilized to remove suspended protein particles which will leave a haze in a white wine if that's not done.
& thank YOU Gary for doing the show.

QOTD: Seattle Mariners all the way! 90's Mariners are my favorite, with Buner days where everyone shaved their head, Randy Johnson (the best pitcher ever) and Griffey knocking 'em out of the park!

  • Neil

QOTD: I know you hate them GV, but out in SF it's the 49ers all the way!

  • Neil

    QOTD: Oooooooooooooooooooooooppppps! SF Giants! 🙂

Hey Gary…great show…you ARE back in the saddle. In March, I traveled to Wine Library from Oregon…(bucket list thing)…and was shown around the store by the one and only K. MURPH! She was great and very accommodating. I know you know she is an awesome employee, but she does deserve a big thank you from me. GIVE HER A RAISE!!

I guess I am a Seattle Mariners Fan…I love going to Safeco Field when I am in Seattle

  • CharlieTN

Fred, did you just find KMurph by chance when you went to WL or did you arrange a meeting? I'm making my first pilgrimage next month and I want to maximize my experience.

  • CharlieTN

Oh, and I'm moving to Seattle in June! So I'm sure I'll be frequenting Safeco this summer.

  • Great, great show and yes, we do care. 🙂 You are one in a million.

I am soo glad, again, you told it like it is on the Isosceles. I really want to try that Foxen so will place my order tonight.

QOTD: I used to fall asleep every night with a 9v battery transistor radio to my ear listening to Jim Palmer, Brooks Robinson, and Frank Robinson but unfortunately Peter Angelos came into town and destroyed a storied franchise. Now, my favorite team: Washington Nationals

LET'S GO CAPS! Rock the Red!!!

    Cheers!

P.S. Who will the Jets draft this year?

  • ryandial

My girlfriend is late picking me up from work today so I thought I'd comment with my free time. Love the show.

QOTD: Not really a baseball guy, but am loving the NHL playoffs. Since my team isn't in (Calgary), I'm getting to watch a lot of teams I don't usually watch, and am very impressed with surprise teams this year Phoenix and LA.

  • Who? 11/8/2010

  • NY Pete

  • plcb

QOTD: LA/Anaheim/California Angels or Phillies….depends which coast I'm on at the time

I remember the 1980 Phillies world series so clearly. I guess my short term memory is starting to go?! Also I went to a world series game when the Angels played the Giants in 2002 (at least I'm almost positive it was 2002).

Hey did anybody see the wine spectator article about screw caps? They talked about an Australian study over the past 10 years in which they had multiple bottles with different closures. I don't have the article in front of me so i can't quote but it looks like screw caps aren't going anywhere anytime soon. Thoughts on this?

  • A dumb Rhein king

    Thanks for bringing the thunder!

QOTD: Even though I don't follow baseball, I do enjoy watching the Twinkies with my peeps.

  • Altboy97

Great show. Love the Santa Maria/Paso area wines so it was great to see try some of the all-stars. Also I've been very tempted to bust the bank for a bottle of Isosceles (loved it in the past), but you've pulled me back from the brink.
QOTD – As a former LA boy, got-to root for those Dodgers.

  • waynoooo daaaaa winoooo

Screw Caps are here to Stay, they ain't goin' anywhere…….. Gotta dig thru
my Spectators & read that article. Was it a recent issue, this months, last
    months??

  • waynoooo daaaaa winoooo

Jets gonna be kickin' some A*S this Year, Super Bowl here we come!!!!!! :o)

  • ian42

Actually I just got it today. It has the DRC on the cover. It's just a little article towards the beginning.

  • JonathanAlfaro

Gary, I was recently in Paso Robles and I've got to say that Justin was a really big disappointment. Like you, the Isosceles was just meh for us. We were really disappointed. It was our first trip to Paso.

On the flip side, we had an awesome time trying the wines at Tablas Creek, Denner and Hug Cellars. Across the board, Denner brought thunder. There wasn't a wine we disliked and will be joining their wine club. If you have never tried Hug Cellars, you've got to give it a try. Auggie Hug is the nicest guy and his syrahs are absolutely awesome.

    QOTD: Dodgers Baby!!!

  • DAveAll

good show. back in the BLAZING Saddle! thanks. Oaky monster – maybe you can get LOST tv show to do a smokey oaky monster on their final finale. haha.
Let's have another PORT show! and not Ruby… I mean Tawny!
qotd: sports? ghez. for the uninformed…

  • Buckeye08

GV – 3 Monday night games for your JETS this year. Hope they can bring the same thunder you continue to bring for us Vayniacs.

QOTD – Cincy. No pretty since '90…..

  • ahw219

On a b-trip in Japan and fighting a jet lag. I gave up trying to sleep and instead watched couple of your latest episodes. Love the internet. Haven't had wine here but drank whole bunch of beer, sake, and shochyu!

I love Paso and its wineries but Justin hasn't done much for me lately. When you consider the price point of Isosceles there's heck of a lot out there that I'd pick over it.

  • collegefootballisnumberone

    GV,
It's always football season so let's stick with what we know and love. There's another wine video blog that I watch that talks baseball…uh, nevermind. Great show. Pretty sure 1997 was the Isosceles coming out party. Very tasty, in that new world fruit/oak/plush texture style but it does not cellar. 1-2 years to come together then drink 'em up people.

  • waynoooo daaaaa winoooo

Yo Dude, You're Right On !!!!! Nooooothiiiiiing Beats College Football !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • howlr5

Gary, Thanks for the shout out, I was really surprised. I will definitely have to show this episode to my peeps at work!! I have always loved the Yankees.

  • KVM1985

    Thanks for the show!

QOTD: I guess Tigers, as I'm from Michigan. I also went to many Whitecaps (minor league) games as a youth and have fond memories.

  • QOTD: Dodgers fan. Brooklyn Dodgers, that is, despite living in LA.

Anyway, Justin & Foxen are good wineries and support a lot of local/regional charity events, which give us attendees a chance to sample a variety of their wines. I've never been disappointed (but also never totally blown away either).

    Good show, Gary.

    Carlo P.

  • Randall

Doesn't matter, Neil… either team ROCKS!! (BTW Gary… who's the all time Super Bowl Champs?!?) 😉

  • chukheadted

yankees. duh. but honestly, gary…you seem like a very, very casual yankees fan for a huge sports guy.

  • Altboy97

Also thanks for the reminder of KMurph before she became Cinderella.

Imagine if ALL Vayniacs made a pilgrimage to WL every year. It would be like flocking to Mecca! Various television studios would follow us on the journey. Some would travel by air, others by sea; many would go and even more would arrive. We would recruit members along the way who enjoyed the fruit of the vine.

Mott, link up the WL pilgrimage…
