Great episode. Makes me hungry looking at all the cheese. My personal preference for cheese is strong, smelly but not too soft. McLelland's Seriously Strong Cheddar is my personal fave. No sure of it's availability in the U.S. though.

    Always dig these special episodes.

I liked the soccer bit a lot, all the american sports talk makes me feel left out a bit. No way is South Africa going to get the cup though, just no chance in hell. And neither will Italy btw. Spain will dominate.

QOTD – Portuguese cheese, not that it means anything cause that's the only cheese I know. Serra da Estrela and Azeitão are all good but Nisa and Serpa (both in Alentejo) really outshine them when paired with a nice Alentejo red. Wise up to them, Justin!

  • Any way we can combine the wine & cheese websites to order?

  • cellarrat5

About to grub on some Fromager Bree, pair it with some Verdelho and there is one kick ass appetizer.

  • Randall

    USA!! USA!! USA!! 😀
    p. s. What is this “soccer” or “futeball” of which you speak?!?!

  • Elvindeath

Love the cheese episodes …. but Jesus, Gary … let the man speak ! I don't think the poor guy finished a sentence.

  • AR

QOTD: goudas when they are old and crystally; Swiss Vacherin in the little round balsa wood boxes when it is in season and soft/runny – great to eat with a spoon; Rogue River Creamery bleu cheeses.

  • slcmonk

Point Reyes Blue melted on a burger or Cowgirl Mt. Tam by the spoonful

  • Randall

Hey, GV, I know that very few bottles of wine are corked, but how about trying a policy of always having 2 bttls. of each wine handy there in the office during taping on the off-chance that it actually happens. Afterall, as castello pointed out, you ARE in a wine shop… 🙂

  • Randall

😀 He said “da stinky stink”!!

  • cellarrat5

WE GONNA GO ON A CHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESE RAMPAGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Good question…

QOTD: I like cheese, all kinds, and to name a favorite well, it's hard really but here goes: Manchego, Asiago, Baretta, Mennonite, Chihuahua, Panela, Stilton, Pecorino Romano, Brie, Camembert, Emental, etc, etc, etc…

  • WineWoman

QOTD: Aged Gouda, love the Beemster Lite, Gruyere, most Cheddars, CowGirl Creamery and some Lazy Lady and Roaring Forties. Get more Valley Shepherd Creamery Cheeses in.

  • Cubatobaco (Ray)

Another home run, Gary! Cheese pairing was very interesting. I'm not one that likes a lot of odd cheeses, but the middle one looks like its very tasty!

QOTD – As long as it's not Roquefort, I'm down for most cheeses. Port wine is among my favorite.= )

Justin, I'm hitting you up on Xbox!

  • Cubatobaco (Ray)

Now that would be really cool!

  • Green_Pea

    Justin,

My favorite as of today would have to be the Kaltbach Cave Aged Gruyere AOC. After talking with you the other day prior to taping this episode I did order some of the Urner Mutschli you just reviewed with Gary per your recommendation. I?m looking forward to trying it with a nice Gewürztraminer.

  • Go IOWA!!!!
Great show! Living in Iowa is awesome. Wonderful fresh foods. Maytag Blue right down the road from me is an true cheese of love!

GOOD SHOW. QOTD: My favorite cheese is Bon Bel, baby bel cheese, you know the little ones that come like six of them in the little red mesh bag and individually wrapped. They sure as hell aren't gourmet but I love em! I could pop 'em like candy.

  • romtina

Great show! I would love to see an African team win the soccer world cup, but I doubt it will be South Africa… I'd put my money on Cameroon.
QOTD: I love any kind of brie or camembert cheese, goat cheese with chives, fresh buffalo mozzarella, and feta.

  • Anonymous

What kind of cheese goes with decaf??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

  • Anonymous

    ttmi!

  • QOTD- love local cheeses from when i worked in tourism. Basque cheese, a funky Morocaan cheese we'd eat with honey, and smoked gouda with Belgian beer (preferably doubles).

  • Randall

Individually, plastically, extra-fakically wrapped slices of soy product loosely described as “American cheese”!!

  • amgryger

QOTD: A couple off the top of my head that I really like are “Sovrana Bufala Parmigiano,” a goat cheese from the Loire Valley, that I can't remember the name exactly, called Jacquin something (great with Loire white wines which I love), and Roaring Forties is always good.

  • 🙂 This is only the second episode I have seen with a corked wine

  • so this is my 5 cents contribution. Cheese goes with wine.

  • string?

  • corkscrew

Love cheese, Beemster XO and Porda Gold… http://www.winelx.com

  • QOTD; Double cream brie

  • ONUMello

QOTD: My favorite GL cheese is the Devon Tickler, two that I would suggest you carry are
    1. Sartori Bellavitano (Wisconsin)
and 2. any of the 4+ year aged cheddars from http://www.bletsoecheese.com/bletsoe_004.htm

  • Allan

Ja, et par stykker tror jeg. Der er en der hedder Thomas DK og en der kalder sig Kasperhip…. Der kan selvfølgelig nemt være flere. Er du ny indenfor vin?

  • Allan

    I agree 100%

I was just pointing out that i think it’s easier to pair white wine with cheese, than it is red.

    5 cents taken. Thnx AndersN : )

  • Good show.. I love cheese! Where do I start?
    1. Brie (double cream – Supreme)
    2. Parrano (dutch Gouda)
3 Shaved parmesan on caesar salad
4 Mt Vikos Feta on greek salad
    5. Point Reyes or Rosenberg blue cheese on my salad with cranberries, candied pecans, pears.
    6. Cheddar on my omelet
    7. Cave-aged gruyere on anything

  • Anonymous

Ja, ret ny. Men fuldstændig opslugt. Hvad med dig?

  • Randall

    Freudian slip, WC 2010??

  • Monica

    I love cheeeeeese!

For a simple snack, nothing is better than brie or camebert with green apple slices.

I also love Vella dry monterey jack. This is a cheese of my childhood and still love it to this day. Polder gold dutch goat gouda, manchego, telemem, and mexican queso cotija are all very tasty.

I love, love, love Cypress Grove Creamery's Midnight Moon. It is just awesome.

  • Randall

    Very punny!! 😉

  • Randall

    Also berry Punny!!

  • Wow.. interesting that you mentioned Cypress Grove Midnight Moon.. I just recently heard about it and will definitely try it (along with Manchego). Thx.

  • Good ep, Gary!
You should have Justin on with cheeses a lot more often.
LOL @ “Thanks for watching the show.”

  • Allan

Men vi kan da snakkes ved herinde. . . .

  • Randall

Welcome to the comment section of “Cheese Library T V”!!

  • binarycache

Very informative show! Every couple of months a food pairing is a nice addition!

  • Anonymous

Kunne ikke lige svare på dit svar. Meget mærkeligt. Favoritter. I know, lige nu er jeg vild med champagne. Er total frankofil. Rhone-dalen, Bourgogne især Mersault. Alsace. skal faktisk til Alsace på vintur til sommer. Nogle gode forslag?
Heldig, hvordan? Hvad laver du da nu?

  • Loved the enthusiasm of your guest! Good show though sorry to see two wines go down in flames. Would love to see more about pairing wine and cheese.

QOTD: My current favorite is Cabot Clothbound Cheddar!

  • cheddar is good
    Fresh goats cheese is good
    Swizz cheese is good

According Cork'd article yesterday a white meritage may be a blend of two or more of the varietals Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon, and Muscadelle du Bordolais so X winery are cheating?

QOTD: Cheese favourite? All? But right now Welch cheddar, Dutch 6 year old gouda, and a French farm cheese made from cow milk, semi hard.

  • ilbee

Great show! How about making this guy a regular guest on the show for example once a month?

QOTD: I don't know about brands but I love Gruyere with some awesome Spanish red like a Rioja Reserva or Gran Reserva. That's just a match made in heaven

  • Allan

Yeah right! And i'm fat….. oh wait. Damn! ; )

  • Justin, for you question of the day, my favorite cheeses are made up sheep's milk. From fresh halloumi of Cyprus to an aged Manchego of Spain. Love sheep's milk. It seems that sheep's milk cheese is easier on people's stomach whom may usually have trouble with cow's milk cheese.

Gary, I had my own personal wine tasting last night. I purchased five different wines.
My favorite was Vinho Verde by Aliança. I enjoyed how crisp, light, clean, and slightly fruity the wine was. It was perfect for an absolute beginner like myself.

  • YoungDave

QOTD: I love to taste cheese to experience the vastly different flavor profiles if I'm sharing a cheese board, but I don't actually enjoy consuming any significant quantity of the stuff. That being said, the most enjoyable cheese that I've tasted recently was Rocinante: a Spanish goat's milk cheese that is aged with rosemary round the rind.
