I hate to say this but that was one of the worst episodes ever. You have to bring a bit more to the table as a guest than bare-faced hustle and this guy…(and I’m sure he’s okay) by his own admission brought absolutely zilch. AND he used the spit bucket which is an absolute no no for guests who are not big wig wine people. Shocker.

I’m the value king Allan! My super value for the year is Chateau de Segries Lirac Cuvee Reservee 2007. Blind, I guarantee you will mistake it for a good CdP or Gigondas. ~$17

I also had a 100% Cinsault rouge a few weeks ago that was killer. I will search my notes and see if I can find the name of it. I think it was a $10-12 bottle. It could have easily been mistaken for a $30-40 Bourgogne Pinot.

I don’t know what the crushed ice drink in South Korea is called, but the Filipino version I grew up on is called Halo-Halo. We used candied red beans and place them in the bottom of a glass and add shaved ice and other sweet fruits. Refreshing to have when you are burning up in sweltering jungle heat in the Philippines. I prefer mine without the beans because they are gritty, and prefer mine with loads of pineapple, mango, and jackfruit.

QOTD: Planning on taking my dream trip in a year or two through Southeast Asia: Vietnam coast (Halong Bay, Nha Trang, Hanoi), Thailand (Phuket, Bangkok), Bali, and Philippines (Boracay, Cebu, Bohol).

I feel you, I need to start exploring the magical mattgmann land of QPR. No wonder I have no money left at the end of the month.

  • Anonymous

YYYYYEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! but the QPR is not too good on the Glenmorangie, at least not the stuff I like 🙁

  • Just Jack

Good point. In a way it cuts both ways. If a stuffed shirt can get on the show it shows the power of social media. It also demonstrates that, especially over shorter time frames, networks aren’t very good at discriminating between quality and hype.

  • Just Jack

    lol WAY too freakin funnny.

And, I’m afraid, neither are the young.

  • ZRM

    WInes sounded good today.

QOD: Dream Vacation? I guess Wine Tour of Europe. That would be amazing and you get to go taste alot of great things. I would also say going to New Zealand would be awesome

Hopefully age, social networking or any other form of media will never completely overtake the integrity you speak of. Perhaps certain people can use social media to forge real relationships and strive toward personal accomplishments and a nose to the grindstone demeanor. I am one of those twenty somethings that am outside of the social bubble most of the time, with the exception of an occasional blog such as this.

  • Looking forward to it!

  • sweet, I'll start the download now, go out and roto-till, and then watch it after dark.

  • Allan

    This will rock, i'm sure!

  • mattgmann

BTW, I'm drinking another atrocious Malbec. Note: if any of you are ever house guests, check the Malbec at the door. Scratch that, pour it on the curb. I'm do down on Malbec. Paul Giomatti should pan it in Sideways 2.

  • cellarrat5

  • was burned by that before I got schooled…albeit arcanely, by vid master Mott. When we land on the home page, the video we see is the featured video, and recent videos below…if you are first, there is no comment section. The title of the video is a hyperlink to the actual page, which activates the comment section, and you are through the golden gate…hat doff to Vanguy on this day.

  • mattgmann

loves me some italian wines too, but I think you know my qpr fondness (cheapness), so I don't drink a lot. There is a cheap as, mass produced toscano called Monte Antico that isn't bad though for ~$12
