Wines tasted in this episode:

I hate to say this but that was one of the worst episodes ever. You have to bring a bit more to the table as a guest than bare-faced hustle and this guy…(and I’m sure he’s okay) by his own admission brought absolutely zilch. AND he used the spit bucket which is an absolute no no for guests who are not big wig wine people. Shocker.

  • Whattup to the CKCs! M squared! Nice guest. The cameo by your brother was hilarious, what a BRO, the pink shorts, the yellow plastic faux-Ray Bans, “slappin' the bag,” classic!

    QOTD: China and Hong Kong

  • Sarandi

Gary, I've had the red bean desert you mentioned – in Popsicle form. There's a bitter component to the skin (its somewhat subtle when it's frozen) but the bean itself is sweet and almost like a reeeeeeeeally reeeeeeeally diluted raspberry mixed with kidney beans.

  • winecrazy

Dat be me standing out there…. 🙂

  • I'm with you on the fact that you should cut WAY back on the guests. the episodes just aren't as good. And I can't believe this guy went through all of that to get on and OBVIOUSLY doesn't even watch the show. Because of that, I'm not answering his QOTD.

  • mattgmann

QOTD: Dream vacation? First off dude….You've been waiting to get on WLTV for a while now. You should have had a badass question in your back pocket.

But, to answer the question: I've been fortunate enough to circle the globe a few times at my young age. So most of the places I have on my list are fairly exotic. I've been wanting to put together a trip to mongolia and kamchatka for some time. I doubt there is any wine there that isn't distilled from yak milk, but the trout fishing is excellent.

On a more reasonable trip, I'm thinking about heading to iceland. Supposedly beautiful awesome and great culture. Exchange rate is really good right now,……….and they have some badass trout and atlantic salmon fishing.

I basically did my dream vacation a few years ago. I took off to chile for a long minute. Bummed around patagonia, hit up wineries, spent some time in Argentina and Uraguay and finally forced myself to come home. I'd love to do that again.

  • winecrazy

Ah….. now I know why Mott liked the Paolo Bea Sanvalentino so much. It's got the Sang in it!!!! The Sang rules!!!!

  • Craig Hamlet

Hey Gary, since my palate has gravitated toward Italian wines recently, this show was right up my alley. Too bad neither one brought any serious thunder.( come on KMurph ) QOTD: I am fortunate to have just taken my dream vacation to Rome over Easter. Nothing beats touring that great city with my family during the day, and then having a different 04 Brunello every night.

You’re right. QPR on glenmorangie isn’t great. I don’t know scotch terribly well though, so great affordable drams elude me. Have you had the Nectar D’or though? It is finished in Sauternes casks and tastes like it. Even more so, it smells like it. I would chalk it up to a Scotch for wine drinkers.

I have to say though, Glenmorangie’s advertising looks like a bad college graphic arts project. Those scotts can make some whisky, but they have the taste of an American trailer park resident. Check out their site. It’s freaking ridiculous and kind of lowers my opinion of the brand in general. A bunch of cheesy flash work and no substance. It reminds me of a lot of sites I build for ignorant rednecks who need a website for their mud-farming business. /rant

I think I have also. Is it just called “red bean paste”. There's a korean joint here that is very good and I think they have a few different encarnations of it.

  • Allan

Yes, i hear Ya, it's not bad for 12!

  • abiluy13

i belive the red beans r called azuki.
qotd: a wine road trip in france/italy/spain.

  • winecrazy

Korean summer dessert: Pot Bing Su

  • The pause on “Question of the Day” was great, but never as good as Sasha trying to search for a non-political question.

  • Allan

People are gettin' mad out there, G, Whatca gonna do 'bout it??

  • Allan

    Me too, oh wait, no…. i've just opened my eyes……… ; )

    Sorry for that.

  • Allan

Ok….this is WAAAAAAY off topic. But, for the quality/value type guy I am, I’d like to throw it down. I tried some vodka tonight that knocked my socks off. Let it be known that I’m not a vodka drinker, and generally dismiss clear liqour (other than gin).

Enough words. Effen Vodka. An effort by the wonderful country of Holland. Clean, rich, flavorful and downright enjoyable. I think this may be a Vodka for the casual drinker. I was kindly gifted a bottle a while back, and dug it out of the deep freeze this evening for a toast with a friend. I cannot say how pleasantly surprised I was at the appeal of this drink. I honestly have no idea of the price or general perception of this spirit, but if you, my friends, connect with my random wine reviews at all, this is worth a taste. The Champagne of Vodka!

  • Allan

Me too cellarrat5, i started out with Barolo. Fontanafredda 98' La Rosa. I loved it! It actually, some way, made me realise that there was somethin' beyond… Quite scary!!

    Salud!

  • Allan

    Yep, you've got it right!

  • QOTD: best vacation…bring a group of Vayniacs to China to “Taste the Culture of 5,000 Years” (yeah, shameless plug)

  • Allan

    Slacker! Oops! ; )

Good on ya winecrazy. Rock on!

  • jenna35

QOTD: a cruise around the Mediterranean

Alsom I'm interested in M2 everyday or qpr wines.

  • Allan

    Mott is my friend!

  • NY Pete

    hey hey

  • NY Pete

look @ GV the twitter boy smiling … 😛

  • johnfarrin

Alright, if this doesn't convince you Gary that social networking is superficial, at best, I don't know what will. IMO there are thousands of more deserving Vayniacs who should be on your show than this kid. Hustle is fine but hustle without substance is annoying.

QOTD: A two month pilgrimage to the different French wine regions.

  • bobbytiger

    A vacation?
    What's that?

  • mattgmann

Join the Marine Corps. They always need guys for Med Floats 🙂

  • mattgmann

If you're paying the bill, sign me up.

  • Allan

Mott rocks the camera! But i have to say, this one of the weak efforts in a while G! I have been kind lately i know, maybe we need to get back, to where we once belonged, just to quote Beatles once!

This guest didn't really “bring it” for me, sorry Michael. Don't care if the wines didn't bring it either!

Qotd: Dream vacation; New York: just to see Mott and da G-meister. Oops forgot Sasha!

    That's where i would go : )

  • mattgmann

    brown bags

  • waynooo daaa wino

    Yo njc20, I FEEEEEEEEEEEEL YOOOOOOUUUUR PAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    ZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzz… ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz……..

  • RANDINTHECITY

    GARY!!!
    Michael!!

I wanna be a guest this summer! On location..come to Montauk…we'll tape it from a sailboat.. (more exciting than any guest you would have on the show this week.. <-cdnt resist)
    OH..but Michael…youre awesome..Thnx for working to make a difference… <3

QOTD: I would like to spend a month in Tuscany w/a man I adore. 🙂

    Great show Gary!
    Thank you
    xo

NY Pete sounds much tougher than me anyway. But he could be like my friend “East Side Charlie”….more bark than bite.

  • Allan

All of these hardcore Vayniacs deserves “a shot” on the show……..

    I can think of 3 pairs i would like to see on;

    RANDINTHECITY vs. winecrazy

    mattgmann vs. NY Pete

    &

    castello vs. cellarrat5!

That would rock the wine world… well the world!

  • Nice “kid”, handsome guy with great hair but oh so lucky to sit with the G-Man and tape a show. Count your blessings young man. Looks like the wines were “meh.”

QOTD: Ummm, too easy, but my dream vacation would be with Randi in Tuscany. 🙂 I just finished Francis Mayes book “Every Day in Tuscany” and it was quite surreal how the Italians actually “live their lives to the fullest” by appreciating their food, history and conversation.

    Salut!

  • waynooo

Yo winecrazy, wheeeeeerrre waaaaas yooou standin' out theeeeerrrre ??????????
    :O)

  • Allan

    Go for it!

  • I agree with you re: QOTD. I was floored.

  • waynooo

    Cleeeeaaarrrr yuuuur “cookies”???????????? :O)

  • Mike – how long have you been at Morimoto? I was there not too long ago. Way to hustle your way onto the show. Need to have some more Sang…haven't had one in a while.

QOTD: Tough call. It would be a 3-way toss-up between France/Belgium, Italy, and Japan.

  • Allan

    I agree 100%

  • mattgmann

HA! I love the “vs” aspect. Do I lose or gain points for not spitting the wine though?

  • dsallen

I love italian wines – I gotta find that first one. Tough on MY ckc budget… no fancy restaurants for me. 🙁

However, I already took my dream vacation last summer with the gf: 5 days in Paris, 6 weeks all over Germany, and a whole week in Italy(Pisa, Lucca, Florence, Rome) !!! God bless those summer study abroad programs and student loans!

  • guymandude

QOTD; you kidding me? His Facebook page says fan since the inception of WLTV.

  • Allan

    That's a good Q?

You can always “spit” at NY Pete!

Spitting always gets awarded in my state of mind! ; )

  • mattgmann

Are we bidding for show appearances now? I'll one up….I'm that kind of guy. Come to the C-bus this fall. We'll do a tailgate show at an OSU game….maybe we can even get Herby, Lee and Fowler to drop in. Well….at the very least, I'm sure Speilman will show up.

  • mattgmann

In case nobody knows, C-bus is what we call Columbus Ohio so we can sound cool.

  • Allan

    Maybe,,,,,,

    or just some hoe-down-back-to-basics-GV-cam-time?

2 or 3 vinos & the G-meister, and we're rocking again!!! Guest shows are good, when the guests bring something to the table, which i don't think Michael did, unfortunately.
