I hate to say this but that was one of the worst episodes ever. You have to bring a bit more to the table as a guest than bare-faced hustle and this guy…(and I’m sure he’s okay) by his own admission brought absolutely zilch. AND he used the spit bucket which is an absolute no no for guests who are not big wig wine people. Shocker.

  • OMG!!!!!!!!! http://bit.ly/9YCuxi ( kid video spoofing me )

  • ironmics

This is pretty crazy, I was just looking for an Inferno to buy like 5 minutes before I came here.

  • I see…gv getting all machavellian on the kid…don't say KMurph is plotting dude!
I also understand why m2 made the show, he showed social media savvy, I hope he ends up donating more than $20 though…he reminds me of a fictional cross between the young versions of ed norton and matt modine. gv does a nice job of playing the mentor, the student is earnest but needs to have more discipline. m2 nice start, build on it, because your generation, as consumers, does have a real chance of changing the wine world.

I'm sure we have to be concerned about gvs promise to end guests, given his track record this year 😉

QOTD: Getting away is great, and I have a multitude of destinations in the fantasy travel agency of my mind…truth is, a few weeks at home, in the summer, both of us with the time off, would be absolutely huge.

  • mattgmann

Holy Shit!! Err….I mean crap…or poop (if that little fellow is watching)

    1. Gary, this is officially the sign that you have made it. When some parent is willing to go over the line with an appreciative video of their child……well…..you must be on the next level.

    2. Dude. That 7 year old is dancing his ass off. He's got you there. He might not be able to tell a Cru beaujolais from Mott's apple juice, but his moves are hypnotic.

    3. To the lurker that forced his spawn into this video. … … Well done. Though I may be flabbergasted, after 6 dud wines in a row, and if I had children, I can only imagine a worse outcome. To whomever you are, bravo. I will throw a 21st birthday party in honor of your son for WLTV.

  • OK that is serious cool…I think I see another guest on the horizon, break out the sparkling grape juice!

  • mattgmann

I don't blame m squared for scheming his way onto wltv. I think the weight falls onto Gary for caving into the pressure. Do I blame him? No. He's freaking aweesome, and a way nicer guy than me. However, I do expect that the next time I'm in GV's neighborhood to drop in and make a guest appearance. J/K…I hate the camera. I'll just take my complimentary wine tasting and move along 🙂

  • bhmbrad

Sorry GV, but this guy was cheesedick USA. Usually loves your guests, but no more college kids living on daddy's dime.

    Over/Under
1: how many more guest will be the “last guest” of the year before the last guest of the year actually happens?
2: how many more d bags will get the honor of being on the thunder show and blow the qotd?
i am just giving a hard time on the first one b/c when a good guest is on it just kills, i am not joking about being annoyed by the 2nd point. i mean it takes like actually watching MAYBE 3-5 shows before you get it. i would be losing sleep thinking/preparing for the qotd if i had the honor of being on the show…if fact why don't you bring a good ol' mid missouri guy out to keep it real on the thunder show. i challenge you.

  • Alexandre-CF

    hey gary,

great job to michael for getting in the show…but nothing during the show….didn't even prepare for the question of the day…didn't even really seem like he was a fan of the show…

  • Thursday

    uggghh…

I don't want to be negative… but I realize my admission is the equivalent.

    @ least it was quick.

  • Thursday

    Thank you.
…that made me forget the last 18:49. People are crazy.

  • This show/guest did suck. Bring back the wrestling figures and total randomness that makes the show rock.

  • orangebottle

wow, Gray that is one of my favorite snack/dessert. It is shaved ice or sometimes fine crushed ice with red bean and condensed milk on top. I?ve seen it in China, Taiwan, south east China Countries. It is great to eat on a hot day. It can be other toppings other then red bean. Nice reference.

  • Janet

I thought Mike was adorable. Cute show!

  • Illegal_Formation

    Gary in a tie?

  • waynooo

Riiiiiight Ooooooon Sarah, “total randomness” made the Show Great……..

  • Illegal_Formation

Love it when the show goes Italian. I'd like to get into that first wine. More montepulcianos please.

    QOTD: Milwaukee.

  • Murso

As far as Sagrentino in Montefalco is concerned, Arnaldo Caprai is the winemaker's winemaker there, who'd actually done the work to go beyond the genetic identification, analysis and development. The 'Belvedere' blend seems comparable to what you got there – you didn't specify the proportions of the components, or wood, etc. The 25th Aniversary Sag. I think I recall had insanely high (like 98 or 99WA?) score. HUGE tannic structure, to be drank 10 years, or beyond vintage. And I don't tend to favor older (aged)Italians, except for Piemontese Nebs.
I was trying to recall a Nebbiolo from Valtellina which I used to have, up in Ohio. Was brought to us by the good folks of Private Reserve. In Valtelina, they often employ a method calle 'szforzatto', or some spelling something like that, meaning 'reinforced', which is almost a direct parallel to the 'ripasso' method, but used on locally raised Nebbiolo grapes. Was pretty good stuff. Mid 20's price range. Not for everyone, but good tasting and well made food wine. Cheese, game, or mild offal, like liver, or pates.

  • Murso

Ultimately (I was typing while listening), K Murph did good to waaay expand palates. Your general responses/atitudes are close to how I feel about both of these kinds of wines, but again, they are good, no doubt, but really for big 'Italo-phile' winos, if that's even a word.

  • teckdeck2008

Wow those sounded like interesting wines. I need to try more interesting stuff like that.
Qotd: My dream trip would Italy. My friend and I have thought about doing that for cheap by staying at youth hostiles and just taking a bus everywhere. Nothing has panned out yet though.

  • FullOnNelson

Nice show! I like the focus on interesting italian wines. Getting the college kids in the mix always makes things a little dynamic.

Gary: The dessert you're talking about is all over Korea, Japan, Taiwan and China. In Japan it is called “kakigori” and comes with a myriad of flavors. Mine is green tea and milk. In Japan the sweet red beans are called “azuki”. But if they are made into a sweet paste it's called “anko”. The name again changes if the white version of the same bean is used: “Shiro-an”.

QOTD: My dream vacation would be to stay in bed and breakfasts throughout France for one year, touring from north to south.

  • Allan

    LOL! HA!

    : )

  • Hear that sound, mattgmann? That’s the life your sucking out of me for mentioning those beers. ;-P

  • Randall

    🙂 !!

  • Allan

    Yessss!

  • Allan

That was totally AWESOME! too much sugar for this kiddo..!! 🙂

    Thnx for da linky-link G!

  • Allan

    lol. that was funny

  • ian42

Hey guys its Ian. Ill probably post this a few times so people will see. Sorry for talking so fast, I was in a huge hurry and Gary totally took me off guard. The grape I was trying to think of was Pelaverga Piccolo. I had the 2006 Castello di Verduno. This is the winery that spawned the term “The king of wines and the wine of kings” in reference to Barolo. The king loved french wine so he gave his wine makers the task of making a dry wine. But I digress… The piccolo is nothing mind blowing but definitely interesting for palate expanding. Also, drinking barolo reserva before they are released is quite interesting. The tannins almost murdered me.

And don't be too hard on Mike. He wouldn't do it to you. And in all fairness, if your point is that he isn't an interesting enough guest, then probably most viewers wouldn't be on the show. That's fine, but it sets a precedent that Gary could only have experts on the show. Jancis Robinson is great, but I'm not sure if she's available every week.

QOTD- Anywhere with my mom. (Not my dad because he doesn't like to fly and that's lame)

  • ian42

Do it! Take trains though. Hostels are cheap and really fun if you don't mind dorm rooms.

  • ian42

What makes you think Mike is on daddy's dime?

  • Anonymous

    LOL Did that already! LOLOL
    <3

  • Anonymous

Oh! But I DO adore you! Yes, wd love to visit for a long while… Cuba sounds good too!

  • Anonymous

LOL Can you imagine? Mott would have to work the sails AND the camera!

  • Nah, they are only jealous because the kid got on in a Crushit way and they didn’t. Nothing to fret about.

  • Just Jack

lol Me too (well not with a man of course). At least you made your escape. I married her and moved out here. Oh Well, it was more than generous up front. Has been a little hollow in the mid-palette but I am hoping it comes on strong in the finish.

QOTD: Northen Canada, New Zealand, New York. There are a few places of that nature.

  • taciturnforsale

I did a semester abroad in Florence, so Italian wine always has a place in my palate.

My dream vacation would be spending a week scuba diving under the ice and glaciers of Antarctica. Tops the list because there are so many complications involved with such a trip.

  • Anonymous

I LOVE that story! So romantic! And I dont know how long youve been together, but Im feeling confident the finish will be strong! 😉

  • Anonymous

I’ll be ready. You have an advantage, you work at a winery. I just smell like one.
