I expected the worst when i found out that the guest was a commenter on the show…but it turned out that there was a great chemistry between him and GV so it worked pretty well.

I'm so glad I made it a point to watch this while catching up on episodes! Glen is a hoot- down to earth and not a pretentious bone in his body- thanks!
QOTD: Since that's not my preferred style, I doubt I've had anything you haven't already had ๐Ÿ˜‰ , but for what it's worth: Two Hands 2008 Angel's Share; Reilly's 2006 Old Bushvine Grenache. Both of those were pleasant surprises.

  • 16 lurkers now, more one here! ๐Ÿ™‚

The last fruit wine (but not too over the top) that I had was the “Ventisquero Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva 2008” from Chile (here in Brazil most of the wines that we have access on the city are from Chile and Argentina..), here's the link: http://www.snooth.com/wine/vina-ventisquero-cab

great show! My fav since Chris the Cop was in the house.

  • jason carey

The reason new world Pinot shuld not be as expensive is that there is not such small tiny vineyards like Grand Cru Burgundy.. that's why.

  • Have you tried the Papillon from Orin Swift? I almost bought that one last week…

Having issues with Disqus today so will comment as a guest. Winecrazy – your a great guy man, you could share a bottle with me anytime; as for wine recommendations, I can't help you out, my palate is the opposite of yours I'm afraid. I like the lighter reds and whites.
But as a fellow wine lover you've got my respect, there are no wrongs when it comes to tastes in wine – best of luck with your quest for finding the ultimate bombastic wine!

  • Jill Stefani

Great show, really enjoyed Glen DiGirolamo “aka Wine Crazy”, he knows his grapes!

    Vaynerpedia – the wine encyclopedia.

    Awesome ep!

QOTD: I think that I really liked the 2006 Cantena Malbec because of its big fruitiness. I couldn't say for sure though because the night that I had it was a long one filled with a lot of wine and good times ๐Ÿ™‚

  • winecrazy

Thanks !!!!!! Good times and good wines. Nice!!!!

  • winecrazy

    Hey, where's my picture?? Oh…there it is….I guess I wasn't signed in….lol

  • Gary, you're the man. having other “Commenters / Fans” on the show once in a great while is awesome. When I come home to EXIT 4 of the TNPK in August, I'm coming up there with a bot. of 2000 Dom. du Banneret Ch9 and were gonna crack the sucker open in a Diner. God I miss Diners. Thanks for creating the Thundershow.

  • Phredd3

Finally catching up. Great episode. Love your comments, winecrazy. Nice laid-back camera demeanor, too. Goes great with Gary's over-the-top style.

QOTD: Samuel's Gorge Shiraz, from the McClaren Vale. Good quality, but definitely a fruit bomb.

2006 Cayuse Syrah! It melted my face off… In a good way.

  • I tried finding it around town here, but didn’t see it ๐Ÿ™ The biggest
issues is that in smaller towns I don’t see many options, and if I ask the
wine shop, they point me to a wine that my grad student salary can’t afford.
I’ll probably come back to this comment thread in a couple of years when I
can start spending more than $20 on a wine bottle ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Thor Oliver

    Glen,
Liked the show. I have not read all the other posts so forgive me if any of these recommendations are repeats. Tikal “Amorio” Malbec, Mendoza http://www.vineconnections.com , Alma Negra, Argentina, AALTO & AALTO PS, Ribera del Duero http://www.europeancellars.com , Bodegas Numanthia, Toro. I hope you can find some of these wines, Cheers.

  • winecrazy

    Thanks Thor……I'll check my list…lol

  • winecrazy

Thanks I have been on the list for years now. Cayuse is good juice..!!!!

  • winecrazy

Thank you very much Phredd for going back to see this show. I see that Friday show has been up for a week now…..Gary must be very busy… ๐Ÿ™

  • winecrazy

    Don't leave me out!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

New lurked old vaniac ๐Ÿ™‚ the ipad has breathed new life into my winelibrary watchin. Biggest, baddest fruit bomb monster. Geez i gotta think for the most part i steer clear now mmm two.

01 Gaja Conteisa ripped my face off once, MONSTER tannins. Not a fruit forward wine but big acidity, big tannins and big Nebbiolo flavor

05 d'Arenberg copper mine cab Sauvignon was really big fruity and bold

  • Cool!!! I’m going wine shopping tomorrow so we’ll see what happens…

  • winecrazy

Hey Canada is in the house coming in at Lurker #16…!!!!!!!

    Thanks Chris!!!!

  • missatiejacket

nice episode. The biggest I can think of are the Herman Story '06 (I'm not positive on this vintage, but I'm pretty sure) reds. I hated them, but you might like them. Many people do.

  • RobinC

I like cabernet-shiraz, like Wolf Blass Black Label and Platinum Label

  • winecrazy

    Thanks for the suggestion!!!!

  • winecrazy

Thanks I'll look them up Robin.

  • Weston3220

qotd: go with the CdP 2007 Vintages, there are some nice big ones in there, OH AND Priorats oh yeah goodness in a glass
2007 Chรขteau de la Gardine Chรขteauneuf-du-Pape

  • winecrazy

Thanks Weston I will do that. And yes, Blackbird is deep!!!!!

  • winecrazy

    Where are you exactly??

  • I’m in Ames, IA (and visiting Normal, IL for summer).

Great to see a hardcore Vayniac on the show. A real dude. Great show. QOTD – Best balls-to-the-walls wine I've ever had: Chateau Montelena Estate Cab 1994. BADASS. I had it about a year ago. It had gorgeous structure and focus combined with dark silky fruit for days. Killer juice.

  • Cardiff_Kie

Most bombastic juice I've tried recently would be Jada out of Paso Robles their Paserby was my personal favorite… but the also have a “Jersey Girl” blend that will be right up your alley.

    http://www.jadavineyard.com/wines/

-Gary quick thing on that “culty” Pinot it clearly states 1 bottle of 2,400 on the front label yet you claimed only 135 cases. My math says that would be 200 cases or at least 8 barrels…

Curious if the back label was wrong or what… I routinely find bottles claiming their bottle number yet its well over the # of cases they allegedly produce. Cheers!

  • winecrazy

Thanks I'll check into that Jersey Girl !!!!!!!

  • QOTD. One of the biggest and baddest I can remember are the Shirvington Shirazes and Cabs. I couldn't drink them, but based on your palate you'll probably love them. Martinelli or anything Liz Turley has her hands on is pretty high octane also.

  • winecrazy

Thanks….. I'm on those mailing lists for years. But you mean Helen Turley no?
