Slightly better than pt1 but still a little too heavy on the marketing side. GV obviously didn’t rate the last wine but put it nicely by saying that the tannins were blocking the flavour. ie the wine was lacking in flavour!

Someting fishy here, I went on at 2:43 and did not see a link to comment, I think I was first? Now that there are at least comments I can write. GV, what's up with that?

  • RichieHell

QOTD: Speckers Landhaus in Potsdam, Germany. Slightley out of reach but a great place.

  • garyleak

But don't you think it could of been edited by 50% without losing much?

  • Smahlatz

Oh dear – that wonderful aussie accent is already being tainted with a little american twang. Get out of the country now!

    “You think you're 5'10″?”

    Greatest line in WLTV history!!!

  • drt999

Why would we bid when Mott didn't sign the bottles?

  • QOTD: I'll go with a bar instead of a restaurant. Angel's Share at 9th and Stuyvesant. It's on the second floor of a Japenese restaurant through an unmarked back door. You can't come with a party bigger than 4 and if you seat yourself they ask you to leave. I think their restrictions are more due to the size of the place and wanting to keep a laid back atmosphere (I've seen several people push past the line in an assholish manner and seat themselves). I think the guys who work there and own the place were Samurais in past lives. Japanese influenced cocktails, and some of the best drinks anywhere in the city. And their prices aren't too shabby for NY either.

    Ha! Wishful thinking, vanguy?

    My man!

Although, do what you want to do, GV. It’s your show.

  • mattgmann

I hope some brown bags are coming soon. Perhaps I've been harsh lately on the guests, so I'll take a moment to explain my feelings.

Firstly, I do not like when guests tie up valuable GV time to sell us wine. That's what paid advertising is for and more importantly, word of mouth. I really don't give two hoots how much the producer likes their own wine. It's vein and distasteful.

Secondly, I do not like that Gary is unable to give his true feelings about the wine when he is in front of the person who made it. I understand. G is a very nice and polite guy. But it seems to me that if Gary tasted that $90 pinot on his lonesome there'd be a big PAZZZ. I watch this show because I like Gary's opinions and all of the knowledge that is dumped.

There are plenty of great guest episodes. They are the ones where knowledgeable winos drop in to taste and talk about wine with Gary. I would personally like to see a moratorium on tasting guests wine on the show. If they want to hang and bs, that's cool and entertaining. Maybe even throw them a 30 second spot. The winelibrary infomercial hour needs to be a thing of the past.

Why isn't there a pinot noir tasting show with the owner of Coleman Nicole?

  • mattgmann

qotd: honestly none. Not panning the wine, I just don't think a $50-$90 retail pinot is worth having on a wine list. The mark up will put the bottles well north of a c-note. When I want a nice bottle I always byob and pay the corkage fee. Hell, most of the time the restaurants around here don't even charge a corkage fee.

    QOTD-
If a wine retails for some $90.00, I can't afford to be eating there.

  • johnfarrin

    Lucky bastard 😉

    QOTD:

    La Toque, Napa

  • johnfarrin

Charlzee, if you don't see the comment phrase click on the title of the episode and it will appear.

  • I respect your thoughts and personally I agree, I am going off the wine guests for a little while

  • johnfarrin

Alright techie, you're banned for LIFE 😉

  • johnfarrin

QOTD: Sorry Michelle, gotta go with mattgmann.

no shit, born and raised in columbus, went to OSU for ug, and just graduated from law school in NW ohio.. studying for the bar now. moving back to columbus for good in august.

maybe we can start some sick vayniac meetup/megatastings in cbus!

  • Steve_r_vb

qotd: crocs in virginia beach has a decent wine selection and it would surprise me to see a bottle on their wine list like the ones reviewed here.

  • NeilMc

I agree Gary with guests talking shop is different than Gary V, Mott and the Vayniacs. I understand the need to be nice to guests and not scare them away – Gary is a charmer after all, but the tenor of the show changes. Ms. Turnbull is a great marketer and used Gary to pump up her wines for free. Regarding the last few shows with guests I will never buy The Soprano's wine or the Jet's wine.

Also Matt the correct spelling is “vain”

  • Is auctioning wine OK in the whole US?

QOTD: Have no idea, I'm from Sweden and only been i NY once and that was 20 years ago

  • lucresmith

This is crazy, I’m in Columbus! I haven’t tried that many places yet, as I’ve been 21 for only a month, but so far have gotten ‘no.’ What spots have been encouraging it? The only one I’ve found that allows it is Shoku, but again, I haven’t looked enough yet.

  • Toolonginexile

So either i drifted off or the pricing was unclear. Is there future pricing now? What was the pricing? Thanks

  • Joe L

Say what you meant GV. 90 bones..NO Way.

  • lol

  • lucresmith

What city are you in? Most places around me won't even allow byob at all! 🙁

  • corkscrew

Pretty expensive Pinot..I get Kosta Browne for under $50 and they have the best track record and have been buying good Pinot's for $20.. http://www.winelx.com

  • Anonymous

    Maybe GV will taste next year’s, if there’s a leather label. . . .
