90/100

lines of the day – ‘kinda smells like a girl’s action figure’ and ‘I’m the new and relaxed Gary, I don’t know if you’ve noticed Mott’ …’No I HAVE NOT’

Nice show – enjoyed it

Cant wait for 7/10 not because I'm going but so you'll finally change the chalkboard.

qtod; It wasn't a movie it was my marriage.

  • I nearly fell over in my chair with the “scent, and the clean and yum-yum.” comment. Good solid episode. 4 to the floor. πŸ™‚

My personal question of the day. I know I can google it but what is a rose? Is it just a red wine (grape) or is it a mix of white and red?

  • Yeah for Rose! another great show. keep em coming gary. Thing i like about rose is due to the lack of popularity you can find some good quality at the lower pricepoints.

  • ironmics

Pretty crazy that you did this episode today, I just had my first rose yesterday. It was the Domaine Lafond Tavel, very interesting, lots of strawberry, heavy mouth, almost creamy, great finish.

QOTD: Avatar, that movie had a lot of promise. After awhile it was just like, yeah this looks neat, but I can tell you exactly what happens for the rest of the movie.

  • Jparadisee

It's made from red skinned grapes but where as with real red wines the skins macerate with the juice for a long time a Rose' is only allowed very brief skin contact. So the short contact time with the skins only colors the wine slightly.

  • redrider21

Great show BUT NO LOIRE ROSE!!!! I am shocked with 4 wines Gary, you didn't choose a Cab Franc. Had the most enjoyable rose of my life not so long ago – a Neal Rosenthal 2009 Domaine de la Petite Mairie Bourgueil RosΓ©. And I'm sitting on a Kermit Lynch Chinon Rose that I'm totally pumped for.

QOTD: “There Will Be Blood”. Through the first half I thought I was watching one of the great movies of my lifetime. The second act just didn't seem to be rooted in the same authenticity and pace as the first act.

  • BillTXwine

1st comment Gary, Ive been a lurker for about a year. Real men drink pink! Big fan of Bandol Rose myself. Movie with a bad second half – Stripes. Loved the begining, but after boot camp no thanks.

  • Thursday

    nice stuff

QOTD: Most movies start out slow and have the Big Finish–kind of like some wines. The most recent movie I can think of that started out moving along but got very drawn out was Avatar. Maybe cause I started watching it at 5:00 AM and might have nodded out a little until it was over at 8:00.

  • Glad to see some rose on the show. I was just thinking of trying some myself and wasn't sure what to pick out.

QOTD: Star Wars Episode II…then again the first half wasn't good either. Where is my original trilogy?

  • Dominus

Need to get rid of this login debacle. I don't know if I will get to post this so here goes. I'll keep it short.

I love the roses (looking for accent over “e”) and especially ones from Bandol. I will need to order some of the Terrebrune.

QOTD: Since I frequent more plays than movies, I want to say “The Producers” was a letdown after the first half along with “Sideways” when it comes to movies as being a letdown in the 2nd half. Kinda like when the Jets played the Colts in the playoffs. Oops, sorry, it's almost football season!!!

    Cheers!

Every time I see a rose, that gorgeous pink liquid lures me in with promises of juicy deliciousness… yet, as you said, they often fall flat. Maybe I have simply had too many robust reds, and expect the same depth and magic from the more shallow (like a baby pool) rose?.. In any case, summer does seem the perfect time to wade in the roses. Good show on this.

QOTD: Dog Soldiers. It was a werewolf flick that started out strong, and then faded into a redundant action deal, with little substance (a little like a rose, albeit a scary one), proving that a creature feature horror film is a tough one to pull off.

Go to discuss site and log in then go directly to wltv, It worked for me

How about the fake accent for what’s her name?

  • Hmmm, don't ever think about Rose. Thanks for great insight. It would be good with some Maytag and tart apples.

  • Love the price points.

  • welcome πŸ™‚

  • @MatthewLiberty

I was never into rose until about 6 months ago, my wife and I got really heavy into them. Now with summer here in Paso Robles, CA., perfect time for a rose. Carol Shelton 100% Carignane Rose is amazing, Edward Sellers Rose's are awesome, Halter Ranch, etc. etc. Try 'em before you knock 'em. Thanks G-Dog!

  • JiminAtlanta

Very good show. I like rose wine a lot and drink more and more of them during the summer. I have had many good ones in France and Spain, not always in summer. They are food friendly at any time of year.

  • Alexandre-CF

    Hey gary
    WLTV is on FIRE.
89 pts show, lock a little uncomfortable with the pink stuff…LOL

i like roses in the summer, i think that a good rose can really bring the thunder on a summer day, by the pool.

QOTD : i just hate Hancock.

  • Charles & Charles rose is absolutely a great play if you're looking to stay domestic πŸ™‚

    …and who isn't this weekend?

  • Candy

Movies? 2012 – please end it already!

  • IMHALL

full metal jacket… my fave roses this summer: Stonington Triad Rose 2007 (i'm a total homer) its from Connecticut and La Ferme St Pierre Cote de Ventoux Rose 'Cuvee Juliette' 2009… yay! 2nd comment time!

  • Tholland

Great show on Rose. Been really into it for about a year now. A little Rose story- For my bday last year, my wife surprised me with a weekend in Boston sans kids, our first weekend away since the birth of my son. We for apps on Newbury St. and had a great Spanish Grenache based Rose sitting outside on a beautiful. Probably was a 89 point wine, but on that day, it was a 95.

QOTD- The movie AI when it get all weird in the last 30 minutes and for some reason Aliens show up. What the heck was that?

  • Man, what a great episode.

“No, I haven't.” -Mott (when asked if he has noticed the relaxed-laid back Gary) GREAT MOMENT!

Thanks for the ever expanding palate challenging show.

    QOTD: ??

  • Jay

Rose is pointless. Commit to red or white.

  • John__J

Are you serious? That's just silly.

  • John__J

Wow, I was trying to think of one and that's definitely it-Full Metal Jacket.

  • John__J

Gary, you said last episode that you're only having 6 more guests on this year. Any chance you can have SIR Gary Vaynerchuk be 1 of those 6? We haven't seen him for a long time.

That's a bold statement btw, commiting to only 6 more with half the year left.

Qotd: Full Metal Jacket (ty to IMHALL for the reminder.)

  • howlr5

The Karate Kid was very slow going in the beginning, then it caught fire and kicked ass for the duration.

  • Great show and loved that the rose's held their own. Part of why I enjoy them so much is that they are always tied to great weather and relaxation and who doesn't love that. Too bad on the Anderson Valley one, as I have had a couple so far this year from '09 and they have all been good. That being said, it is always tough to beat the French.

Keep the great shows coming. Can't wait for the rest of the week and am looking forward to sharing some great fun wines for the fourth.

  • TheGreatWazu

Very Gary. It's really enjoyable and entertaining to watch you dude. Yer one of a kind. A movie that I love the first half and hate the second half? American History X.

  • ChrisNY2_uae

It's pretty gross whenever you give Mott those dirty used glasses that have been sitting around.

  • John__J

    There's 3 ways to make a rose:
    1. The most common is to ferment like you would w red wine (w black grapes), but remove the skins from the fermenting must when you get the degree of color you want, then finish fermenting w/out the skins.
    2. Blend a tiny amount of black grapes w white grapes w the fermenting taking place on the skins of the black grapes.
    3. Or blend a small amount of red wine w a large amount of white wine prior to bottling.

  • Emins

Haven't had too many roses to be honest. My last rose was probably from Oliver Winery (yeah, sweet and pointless; just no real character), so I haven't tried any since then.

QOTD: “Passengers” started out OK. In all honesty, the way it started I was a little skeptical that it would suck, but there was the impression that there might be a real conspiracy to cover up the plane crash. It turned out the main character had actually died on the plane, which was easily expected and a less than exciting result. I don't recommend it.

  • Too funny, been drinking and shifting onto rose lately. Best so far is Toulouse Pinot Rose but will have to try to find some Rioja and Bandol.

QOTD: Face Off!! How long does a boat chase have to be?!? John Woo owe's me 1 hour of my life back!

  • Lady L'egance

I haven't had rose in awhile, thanks for the show GV.

QOTD: The new Alice in Wonderland.

  • winecrazy

I like rose Champagne……not too much the wine ya know there Homey.

    QOTD: hummmm…….after I see a movie I really don't remember it…..lol

  • Just recently bought a Rose from Paumanok, one of the more well-established Long Island producers. Tasted it at their stand in Union Square and decided it was worth the $18… Now, the wait is on for a good situation.

Great show Gary! I've once again fallen off the wagon during the last week and a half, but that's because I've been busy with this: http://finishthesentence.tumblr.com/post/720259
Now, many people might think that it's not that big a deal to be going around playing random pianos. The real challenge here is that I have taken to donning a wristband, which makes it harder to play some things. And not just any wristband, mind you…

  • dsallen

Dang… gonna have to man-up and try some rose…

    QOTD: Braveheart

  • ChrisV

Some great dry roses getting made in Australia these days. Probably not available overseas but if you can get them, the Spinifex “Luxe” and Arrivo Rosato di Nebbiolo are great.

QOTD: Revenge of the Sith. I hated the other two prequels and was hoping the third one wouldn't be quite as much of a suckfest. During the first 30 or 45 mins or so, you've got your classic R2D2 and your spaceship chase scene and so forth, then as soon as it moved on to Anakin's story it was terrible again.

  • castello

    germophobe?

  • castello

I found that going to the discus website then straight into wltv worked for me.

  • LLUErker

Not sure how much I would have liked today's wines. Grapefruit? I hate grapefruit.

QOTD – I'm going to go controversial with this one. As much as I loved Up, I feel like the beginning of the movie was so incredibly emotional that most of the middle bits just felt like killing time.

  • Lucyfuer

loved the show im watching it again. you always make my day and night peace

  • Lucyfuer

vrac sounds very masculine……. nice to see mott trying a wine………sensitivity ok. vodka i love it sorry. i drink my grey goose fast enough so i dont have to have that waterd down essesence. YOu dont like vodka being from russia. ???????? well ill try them all. see you soongyfooma lucyfuer sherry πŸ™‚ yea the smokey one thats for me……….

  • Allan 2.0

“Weekend at Bernie's”………. oh wait………. no……….that was just bad all the way through πŸ™‚

  • Allan 2.0

    Google search.

QOTD: Ken Burns? Jazz. The first 7 episodes are great. Episode 8 where bop is just starting is interesting, plus there?s still a lot of the earlier artists in it. Episode 9 insidiously has me sliding down a slope. The bits with the earlier artists are fewer and farther between. In episode 10 it?s too late. I?m becoming comatose. I no longer have the energy to shut it off. Of course this isn?t Ken?s fault. This is due to my tastes in music. I mean no insult nor challenge to those who like later jazz.
