    Good episode, Gary & Mott!

Wow, finally the 7/10 party is happening. Wish you a nice time, and maybe next year will make the trip from the Netherlands…

QOTD: I'm with @chukheadted on the Cava, lately been serving a lot of rose Cava from Utiel-Requena (either Garnacha or Pinot Noir). Awesome stuff!

  • If there was a way to communicate offline I would have asked there…
Group of MBA students doing wine consumer research for a wine recommendation idea called WinePeer.
http://www.winepeer.com/survey0610 takes ~5 minutes to do.
    Thanks and apologies otherwise.

  • LLUErker

Interesting show. On a roll here with the classic-type shows. I'd like to try both the wines on today's show, for sure.

QOTD – Summer time always feels like party time, so I'm going with Cava, but I'd definitely consider Prosecco for my next sparkling outing, for sure.

  • King of Pape

In general I feel about Prosecco, the way GV feels about Rose. Every year it is supposed to be the next big thing. 5+ years later I am over the hype.
For good value sparklings I go Graham Beck for $15 and Txakoli can be even less expensive.
Even Vouvray Petillant can be fun under $20

  • JR

    Cloudy Bay's sparkling wine, Pelorous.

  • I love the bubbles especially the Proseccos and Cavas for a change of pace but nothing really compares to the real thing.

QOTD: Actually, I would serve this sparkling Chardonnay that was served at Obama's first state dinner. It is very good.

    Cheers!

  • RichieHell

QOTD: Cremant de Bourgogne Blanc de noir. Love those.

  • MarcBelgium

Nice show. But I do not understand the hype for prosecco or cava. All the prosecco or cava I had where disappointing.

    so …..
    QOTD. Champagne, champagne, champagne, ……

  • Lurker Berserker

Hey Don, Cremant d’Alsace is the name for sparkling wine that is produced in Alsace, France. It is made Methode Traditionelle which means the same as Methode Champenoise (produced in the same way as in Champagne, France – secondary fermentation in bottle, riddled, disgorged, etc.). I’ve found them to be full of character, very palate friendly, and reasonably priced for what they deliver. Give them a try – you won’t be disappointed. Cheers!

  • Lud73

    Clairette de Die bien sur!

    THANKS FOR THE SHOW, TEAM.

Not necessarily the scoring, but the choice of wines to present.

    It was ladykafka, below.

  • theverylastlurker

Yes, Utiel-Requena DO (Valencia, Spain) is an under-the-radar source of very good QPR wines.

  • nitaT

nice show! gotta love the bubbles!

    gosset red lable

i hope to see you tomorrow – coming from connecticut.

  • We served Billecart-Salmon this year at our 10 year anniversary….always an EXCELLENT sparkler!

  • nikkig

QQTD: Gruet… I grew up in New Mexico and have to support my local wines. Plus, it's pretty good.

  • Great, tight show. Underdog vino prevailed! Can't wait to meet people on Saturday! I will be out with the better half for both parts.

QOTD: Whatever I can get my hands on…I prefer Cava, but I had a Cremant at dinner the other day that was simply superb.

  • John__J

    qotd: A Cava

    Have fun in NYC everyone

  • I love the Buster Douglass reference and your excitement over a great wine. This is why I watch you, because your passion is awesome!

Eiiiiggggghhhhhttttttttyyyyyyyyyyy555555555555555555555!!!! YES! Mott, you are ON it baby!

Thank you so much for the shows.

QOTD: Ca' Furlan Prosecco, Is that some kinda joke question. I'm serving this stuff.

  • waynooo daaa wino

Bought a half-case a Proseccos (Fantinel & Villa Sandi) the other day, lookin'
    forward to tryin' them……..

qotd: I'd probably go wit da Bubbles i am most familiar wit, and that would be Schramsberg, Iron Horse, Mumm Napa Valley, and Duval-Leroy………

  • angelatcarslon

    Bubbles are fun!

    QOTD:
    Value: Prosecco or Cava
Fun & Excitement: Italian Sparkling Viognier, Heidrun Meadery Macadamia Blossom or Orange Blossom Sparkling Mead, Piper-Sonoma NV

  • DiamondDon

The 90pt rating for La Marca is 3 years old. Since it is a non-vintage wine they will continue to say it got 90pts for the next 10 years. It's hard to believe it's exactly like the bottling that made the Top 100 in 2007. Thanks for the great shows. Keep them coming!

  • cadams82

qotd: I would serve some cava mostly because my friends are cheap and wont appreciate something nicer. Segura Viudas is a nice option and pretty reasonable.

  • Lucyfuer

well as usual my escort for the trip has backed out andim devestated. the nyc was the highlight of the month of july. being i have no car im hoping devine intervention will occur and another pal will want to make the trip if anyone from ct uconn area is making the journy to the nj store and the event let me know at [email protected] or gyfooma twitter .sherrychobot on facebook . • Kevin

I filled out the survey for you. Good luck!

  • Mauricio_Fernandes

QOTD: Casa Valduga Arte Brut (Brazil) it?s delicious and a great value ($15 on a rival American web store), probably on WL it would sell for $10!

Mott was sharp on the 85!! Good job!!

  • Mauricio, Are you in Brazil now? if so where abouts?

  • MW

Billecart-Salmon Rose if money was not object. For the price point, i haven't had anything better than any sparkling wine Gruet Winery makes in NM. The Blanc de Noir is my favorite.

  • NY Pete

ok … whatever happened to laid back friday??? slackers … 😛

  • VanThe Man

Martini & Rossi Asti Spumante – can't beat the value. Blows away all other Astis.

  • Gv,
Thx loved to see the Prosecco Tasting.

    QOTD:
I would serve the Napa Mum Brut. the boss likes it!

  • Hey Gary story for you: My girlfriend and I have recently started getting into wine. I have been watching the show for a few months so I am familiar with some of the Vaynercabulary. Last night my gf and I broke out a 2009 Warburn Estate Shiraz. As soon as she took a sip she said, “It tastes like a block of wood!” She has never seen the show so she didn't know about the oak monster….thanks to you, I was able to explain. Incidentally, I enjoyed the wine. Thanks for enlightening the novices.

  • mattgmann

No GV today?? Was hoping for the couch. I'm sure you'll hit it strong next week.

Starting off the weekend with another bottle of Spruce Goose pinot (double checking if my original assessment was accurate). Then on to a random CdR that has enough pedigree that I have reasonably high expectations.

    Enjoy the weekend winos.

  • Allan

Hey everyone! Have one killer party this weekend, sorry i can't be there 🙁

In my mind, i'll be there! 🙂

    Don't drink too much, yeah right . . . . . . 🙂

    Cheers!

  • jsums

PARTY!!!!!!!!!! Can't wait, dude. Bringing some good Greek juice to represent my 'hood of Astoria. QOTD – Markovic Grande Reserve Brut, Cremant de Limoux NV. $10-$12 and really tasty. Hard to beat that.

  • teckdeck2008

Hey dude, wish i could be there tomorrow but ya'll have fun without me.
Qotd: I would have to go with prosseco as my favorite too. Although I don't know specifics well enough to really pick one wine. Lets just say I'm good with the tasting aspect but I really heavily on those with more knowledge a lot of times. I would be in trouble if the internet didn't exist lol.

  • teckdeck2008

I agree totally. Even though they blend I believe somewhere on the bottle they should say what year it was blended so us consumers have some reference.

  • norcalking

    Party on…..Garth?

    QOTD; Scramsburg blanc de blancs.
They have a tasting and tour, appointment only, at their winery in Calistoga. 35 bones. At first I thought, 35 bones!?? Appointment only?! Do I get to kiss Jack Davies pinkie ring?

Well, we had the time and there was a woman involved, long story short, excellent experience. Endless caves stacked chock-a-block with bubbly. Dust, old world dripping from the ceiling.
Generous tasting. All of their better stuff. My favorite sparkling wine in the Napa/Sonoma Valley.

  • Hey Gary

Good show – you are on a role man. Like you said less guests pimping themselves and jsut you pimping wine is the way to go!

QOTD: Never Champagne as it's never going to offer value. If the party was in Hong Kong probably something Aussie – Clover Hill Vintage is my favourite, the NV is also smacking good.

    Cheers
    Andrew

  • Jacqueline51

    Hey Gary,
Jacq. from T.O. here! Great show. Even fellas like the sweeter stuff!

We have winery here in Niagara that doesn't put the sugar codes on the tasting bar menu because they discovered that people wouldn't try the wines with a sugar code above 0. Now that's only because no one wants to admit that they enjoy a little of the sweet nectar every so often, in public. Smart on the winery's part I think!

Okay so I'm thinkin' Vino dei Poeti Prosecco, 12.95 Cdn. not a bad little sparkler that I've had. Last night I did a tasting of sparkling wine and we served, along with the obvious, and little charmer from Niagara again, Peller Estates Ice Cuvee. The dosage added to this wine is none other than Vidal Icewine. It was nice. $31.95 cdn. Icewine drives the price up. 2 on the sugar code. Nice acidity.

Still hoping to make it tomorrow.

    Cheers
    Jacqueline

p.s. Way to be quick on the 85 up shot Mott! Hands fast as lightning! And a mind to match!

Little do dight wine and the right winemaker and batta bing batta boom you got yourself a fantastic little wine that's got the right balance of sweetness and acidity.

  • Barstool

QOTD: If I answer honestly I would have to say the summer bubbles I'd serve would be the tonic water being sloshed in my gin. Not a sparkling wine guy…I promise to by several of the Ca' Furlan at WL tomorrow to share with friends and see how my impression compares.

  • waynooo daaa wino

Yo Vayniaks, Have a FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN PAAAAAAARRRTYYYYYYYY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wish i could be There….. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
