lines of the day – ‘did you see my hair on that episode, spike city USA’ and talking about when customers used to disregard GV in the shop because they thought he was too young, ‘I used to systematically blueprint on how to humble them’

Classic the line of the day; would love to have been a fly on the wall when those pain-in-the-ass clients got their come-uppance

Chateau Pesquie 07 is great, government stores actually carries it and so do the local wine stores.

Thanks for this week of episodes on supermarket wines.

QOTD: Just cracked an Avalon 07 Cab. Also just bought a Sutter Home Chenin Blanc.

  • Tewalta

    QOTD : Bogle Petite Sirah

Hi Gary. Thanks for doing the supermarket series this week — I really enjoyed it.

QOTD: Any of the Ravenswood Vintner’s Blend red wines. I find the Merlot and Zinfindel to be pretty reliable.

Good episode and those should be in my little area of Texas.

QOTD – 2009 Folie a Dewe “Menage a Trois” California Red Blend of Zinfandel, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Excellent little Wednesday night wine.

  • J. Lohr Syrah is a good value in my opinion. I think it is a great commodity wine, although I’m not sure if it is available outside Cali.

  • That Parallel 45 is also very good with a little chill on it.

    QOTD: Shannon Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon

Chateau St. Michelle always delivers for me, whether it’s merlot, or their quite fantastic ’09 Riesling for 11 bones

I go to Washington State University, we do have a wine program. Thanks for the more inexpensive wine recommendation as I am a college student.(I’m 23)

A little disappointed, Gary. You wouldn’t buy the Jaboulet but you thought we should drink it on Wed. night. Below you, but not us???

concha y toro marques de casa concha cabernet

  • CKC: University of Oregon does not have a wine program I’m almost positive, however the Community College in Eugene does.

QOTD: I was surprised by the 2009 Yellowtail Shiraz, I thought it was pretty good. Although, supermarket wine is getting a new face and offering some pretty good wines. The Safeway near my apartment has an ’06 Opus One for 230 bones along with some Dom P, Cristal, and other top shelf wines.

A white everyday drinking wine that should be in every store – Geyser Peak Sauvignon Blanc. Tastes exactly like the best SBs from New Zealand, but at half the price ($8 at Trader Joe’s, $10 elsewhere).

  • Hi Gary, welcome back! It has been a while since we received your show in our inbox!

QOTD: When I lived in the States me and my roomates went with the YellowTail Shiraz but sometimes we would switch it up with a Reffino Chianti (I think that’s what it was). Good show.
