Gary Vaynerchuk is joined with Jimmy Trent, a longtime Vayniac and contest winner. He brought 2 Gran Reserva wines to try from the Utiel-Requena region of Spain.
lines of the day – ‘These wines are like 2 Golden Retrievers, ones a couple of years older. One chilling on the floor and the other one trying too hard, constantly bringing the ball back etc’ and ‘I know more about baseball than anyone in the world’
Absolutely classic episode with a good guest and loads of sports trivia. (For example ‘Jerome Bettis is the biggest choker in the history of sports’)
Yes! A guest! Wee! Let the cries of despair begin. Oh, the sound it makes. It's music to my ears, like Narn Opera. 5 more guests. Huzzah!
Great job Jimmy T. How can I not root for the guy whose last name is the first name of my favorite musician? π
QOTD: I am a graphic designer. I would like to have a freelance career in all area of the creative process whether it's graphic design, my fine art or writing. I don't want to do just one thing.
QOTD — I'm an academic, and my job is basically 65% teaching, 25% administrative stuff & 10% research. I wish it was 50% research, 40% teaching, and 10% everything else

Just went back and read some of the comments. I STRENUOUSLY DISAGREE! I thought it was a VERY entertaining show. I think Jimmy showed more wine chops than most of the amatuer wine drinking guests in the past. I guess you just can't please everybody everytime.

Not half bad, guys! I didn't think the sports was too much, Jimmy was a good guest, with good insights into the wine, which kind of got lost in the shuffle. Not everybody is manic like Gary, and that's not a bad thing! π QOTD: I'm a Registered Nurse (28 yrs on top of 2 yrs as a LPN), many different areas of practice, but much of it, including right now, in 'memory care'. I don't believe I'd change a thing, except maybe wish I'd saved enough $ over the years to be a part-time riding instructor and trainer along with being a RN. I'm also just about to be a grandmother, which is why I didn't finish watching sooner- had to take a call in the middle- looks like I'll be a Nana before another 24hrs goes by!! π
That NYC article is how i found out about Gary and now i've seen every episode.
That was a sweet pic he took to win that contest. I remember I was gonna try to make a pic for that contest, but I'm glad I didn't because it would of been trash compared to that hah

That’s sounds like the most tranquil career I have heard of. I am sure it is different than I imagine but still, I slightly envy you.

qotd: i work in a warehouse thats 95 degrees all day carrying boxes around! id rather be starting an organic farm, playing live music, and working for a winery.

I think Donald Trump is hiring. That would be a great reality show. The Hotel Spy.

I admit I'm a long-time lurker but started watching ever since the Joly episode. As for the QOTD I'm an apprentice with the guru winegrower of the east coast. Six years ago I started with the largest winery in Va. as a production technician and then before the apprenticeship I was the head winemaker at another Va. winery. Left that job to apprentice with a mentor that has 30 years under his belt. 28 of which are in Va., and wouldn't do anything else. I like being a farmer.
Awesome episode. Vayniac guests are always the best, except Hendrik Thoma and Nicolas Joly, best 2 guests of all time (excluding sasha).
great story! Don't know anyone who saved a coin though.
QOTD: Right now getting paid to deal with customers. Would probably like to get paid to travel and eat at great restaurants. side note, there is never too much sports talk
Phaser
QOTD: I am the CIO of a tier one GM supplier, and would just like the world to get back to normal, whatever that is. I?m 52 and when I grow up I want to be at some place with my wife and just sit and watch the waves come in and drink something.
QOTD: I'm a barista at a local coffee shop in San Diego but I would rather talk Golden State Warriors and craft beer from northern california for the the rest of my life(tough area to argue both in).
QOTD: I work as a barista at a coffee shop in San Diego, but I would loooooove to talk Golden State Warriors basketball and Northern California craft beer for the rest of my life.

Cool show, good guest and a different approach .
qotd; now,Builder; one day, own a wine bar

lmao. I was not expecting that response.

A woman drove me to drink, and i didn't even have the decency to thank her :0)

Great episode! Really enjoyed seeing an “average” guy, just like me, on the Thunder Show! Since y'all brought up football, I gotta throw down with one name – Garrison Hearst – bring back memories Mr. Vaynerchuk.
Bioman_83
try winejobs.com, there is a wine-bar in Roanoke,Va. looking to hand over the reins. Worth a shot?

Great question!
QOTD: Software dev. I would love to be a vineyard manager and a wine maker (I know I'm greedy) I don't want to do one more than any other though, all intrigue my geeky side.
Side QOTD: Cormac McCarthy's book, No Country for Old Men features an epic coin toss for the life of the gas station owner–it is also an intense moment captured in the Coen Brother's movie, by the same name–and the villain makes sure the owner keeps that “lucky” coin, not allowing him to put it into his pocket to be confused with the rest of the coins. Scary in the book, intense in the film.
QOTD: I am paid for working for a Pharmaceutical company / Whole Foods but would love to be playing hockey professionally or working in the wine industry!
Side: Again, where is the hockey love? Skimmed over the Penguins, Gary please get pumped for hockey! Tell me your team… and I swear I can leave a little comment about them on Disqus after every episode–my promise to you!
LurkerKing
I am a professional lurker. I lurk for a living.

QOTD: I work for a Municipal Water Department. I would love to have Guy Fieri job. P.S. I like to think that my picture of Joe Namath holding a copy of Crush It, came in a close second.

I support Randall's Veeeeno Verde movement! *cheers*

Nice show. QOTD: Software engineer who would prefer to be paid to taste wine – that's why I'm here!
A couple corrections from the show that need to pointed out:
1) As a life-long Vikings fan I know all too well that the Jets didn't win the Super Bowl after the 69 season – it was the Chiefs who embarrassed my heavily favored Vikings 23-7. The Jets had beaten the Colts in the Super Bowl the previous year after the 68 season.
2) When Jimmy was telling the story of how his Father flipped a coin between the 2 teams that won only one game in 1969 to determine his favorite team – it wasn't the Steelers and Cowboys. It was actually the Steelers and the Bears.

Gary V and Jimmy T DYNAMIC DUO. My husband Justin and I have become HUGE fans because Jimmy introduced us to your work 3 years ago. Well, he really introduced Justin and then I followed suit later on. This was an awesome show. Gary, you have inspired me to pursue a career in wine. Do you have any internships?? π GREAT SHOW!!
redrider21
QOTD: I work in the frozen yogurt world. I would love to travel and write about wine, the people who make wine and the adventures I get involved in along the way.
Can you say where? My parents used to live in Bracey, Va. Over the years that I went to visit I watched them transform a farm into a winery up the road. It became Rosemont Vineyards. (PS I also went to Va Tech so I know the Blacksburg area)
Nice. Another episode that proves that guests do bring thunder to WLTV. I've tried RojiΓ±Γ³n from Utiel-Requena, not bad, very gamy as well.
QOTD: I design and develop projects for a living, architecture projects, corporate, urban design and planning, green tech and commercial design projects, industrial design. Although I like what I do very much, it would be great if I could be a paid film and/or advert director, it's one of those things I dream about from time to time. (good question BTW)

And I still support Xpensivewino’s domestic bubblies movement!!

Interesting episode, guest had good insight especially since he said he was still getting into wines. I enjoyed the episode and story time.
qotd: I'm currently a teacher in NYC, so far I cant think of anything else id rather be doing!
plcb
I enjoyed the show and the guest. I'm not a guest-hater. Bring on the guests.
QOTD: After a 20 year professional career (not in wine), I now have a wine job. It's fun but low paying. My goal is to have a better wine job some day. I'm a PLCB Clerk. I view it like an internship (sort of). I've been to plenty of PLCB wine tasting events and to their wine classes. Customers appreciate my wine knowledge. If I don't advance up the ladder in PA, I live close to DE and NJ….
Just Jack
lol. I couldn’t let you have all the fun by yourself forever Randall.
Yeah. I play three/four nights a week. I know his (GV’s) dad likes the Devils but I do not know about Gary’s team. I am the west coast kid and love the Ducks!!! Do you follow the Penguins or are you sorta into hockey and follow the other sports more?
HOCKEY, Wine, Women and burgers. Thanks for replying.
yacochuya
Liked the show.
QOTD: I am a physician working at a university, actually “The University” (The many sports fans out there may get that one). Specialize in Travel Medicine……Wish I could do more travelling than medicine.
Senator
QOTD: I'm the Administrator of my state's property tax system. And believe it or not, I love my job; I wouldn't change.
orangebottle
That was a fun show guys. I like all the side stories and the sports talk. Great job jimmy, gary and mott. qotd: I have my own architecture office with two partners doing commercial, medical and some residential projects. although I would not change the creative and problem solving aspect of my career but do not enjoy the politics involved on some of the projects. If I?m not doing architecture I would love to be a professional student and get paid for it.

I must know more about your involvement in the fly fishing business. My uncle and father were huge fly fishermen, i never had the patience to learn when I was young. I regret it now.
lisaupnorth
QOTD: I teach music and am also a church musician. I love what I do, but if I were younger, I would teach Jazzercise!
Enjoyed the sports talk today. Go Twins! Go Vikings! (Brett Favre- please wear Purple again this year!!)
cellarrat5
Decent show. Honestly, the sports tangents were a little much, but I realize others enjoy them. Interesting wines, very old for the price point; and most importantly not bad scores.
QOTD: I work for a small winery in Northern California. I am involved from crush to bottling and beyond. I handle day to day operations involving everything from wine making to ingoing and outgoing shipping. Tasting room on weekdays, harvest duties (pump overs, punch downs, additions of all kinds racking, working forklifts, crush etc.) basically anything that needs doing in a small winery. The sky is the limit, I'm 27 and I have no idea where this will take me, I hope I can make the most out of the ride and enjoy what I have and what I accomplish.
Karl
Great Show. I am in the winemaking field, and then only thing I love more is my fiancee and family. So, owning my own winery would be the top of the mountain. Go Tribe!
DFly
I'm a total newb to this show, but I gotta say, i really enjoyed it. Gary V seems very high energy, snappy-minded, nimble with words. Jimmy T (guest) more than held his own. Impressed that a Florida/Steelers fan off the street could do so well (but don't let it go to your head, dude). I can still beat you in r-ball.
Amen, brother!! This $8 per pitcher of excellent California microbrews (including barleywines, etc) on Sundays here at Extreme Pizza in Sacto is killing my wallet!! :D!!
