  • So can we afford these wines? Well, yes one if we save a while 🙂 Silky wines here I come! I love the Rhone silky stuff, hitting auctions to get hold of old stuff.

    SQOTD: Mustard and ketchup

QOTD: Haven?t had a 100 dollar wine. The best 60 dollar wine was the 1999 Cave De Tain Hermitage Rouge and the best 120 dollar wine was the 1990 Chateau Pichon-Loungeville Comtesse de Lalande.

  • oboy, 2005 Palmer , in my country the 2005 Palmer is 300 dollars

  • “yes, got one. Tried to get my grandma to knit me one – it says “Whine Library”, guess I wasn’t clear. . . . ” ROFL

Loved this show, both Usseglios makes amazing wines. nice that you make shows about wine in all priceranges, but ofcaurse it is fun when the big boys makes an apperence
best ca. 100 $ wine: Clos du Pape 2000 last year, or Bertani amarone 1990 drunk in 2003

    Side QOTD: Ketchup und onions.
    QOTD: Never had one before.

  • Sscarpari

    Hi Gary,

  • Nice episode: “China explodes into Mexico”, love it, I can imagine some pretty wild flavors to go along with that description. A great reason to get that wine.

-side QOTD: don’t have a wrist band yet (or any other WLTV schwag for that matter.)

-second QOTD: Dijon mustard on the bottom and that’s it.

-QOTD: haven’t had that “best” $100 USD bottle as of today, but am always on the lookout.

  • Kasperhip

    No wristbands.
Hotdawg wit Grany hot mustard, onions and pickles.
And I never opened a 100 dollar bottle of wine. Hopefully I will soon.

  • Aussie S I missed u 🙂

QOTD: “med det hele” (with all of it) raw and fried onions, ketchup, mustard, remoulade and pickled cucumber. Something like this http://u.nu/5rrae

  • Brandon

Just Mustard … always just mustard – bw

  • Ruth_R

Thank you for another great show.. Am quite new to this, having only recently discovered wine tv after you featured in an article in WINE magazine here in Australia.. And I’m now getting addicted!
QOTD: no hot dogs for me but if I did, it would have to be mustard
QOTD2: not sure if it’s quite $100 but have very fond memories of a Josmeyer Pinot Gris from Alsace I had a few years back..

  • Anonymous

QOTD 1 – tomato ketchup, mustard, onions
QOTD 2 – Yvonnick Debray Clos Vougeot Grand Cru 2000

  • The JOB

Yes I have the Thunder wristband. I don’t wear them enough.
    QOTD- ketchup and mustard

  • I don’t spend $100 on a piece of clothing or shoes, why should I spend that much on pickle tasting grape juice. Bleck… ( wow….that came a little bitter.. 😛 )

    relish and ketchup….dammit..

  • christopherson

had to comment on the hotdog QOD…

Mott? Are you serious? KETCHUP! Come on man…

100% agree with GV… sauerkraut and mustard…the only way a hotdog should be eaten!

  • Loved your commentary on the reds and the different flavours that come through for you. It definitely makes me want to go and buy some of these to try out myself however hot dogs are a no go for us now as my six year old was told they were made from pig butts. This is what happens when your child hits elementary school. Keep up the fun episodes.

Side Question: Plain. Mustard usually creates stains. But if I do use mustard, I prefer Gulden’s, the Brown mustard.
The Real ? Of The Day: Aside from Champagnes, Joseph Phelps Insignia, Rubicon, and Dominus in that order. Might have had something French or Italian at a Grand Tasting at that level of pricing, but I “normally” don’t buy $100 bottles of wine, so my memory didn’t enter them into my “mental Wish List”.

BTW, nice breast-stroke during the episode. Also, RANDI IN THE CITY, don’t you agree nice haircut-styling on GV most recently? Don’t think he’s going to SuperCuts these days. 🙂

  • WLTV armband: no 🙁
Side QOTD: onions chopped very small, dijon style mustard….sometimes relish if I’m feeling randy. The hot dog is the most important part though. I’m partial to the hebrew nationals.

QOTD: I’ve never had a $100 bottle of wine. 🙁

What’s the best hot dog joint in Chicago?

  • Lcamp2

Mustard and chopped, not diced onions.

  • QOTD: Hot Dog with Kransky, Sauerkraut, Bacon, Mustard, Ketchup, Cheese and Garlic Sauce.

QOTD2: Best $100 ever spent on wine. Toss up between 1999 Lakes Folly Cabernets and 2005 Torbreck The Gask. Lakes Folly memorable because I drove half way around Australia to Lakes Folly in the Hunter Valley. The Cellar Door is only open on selected days every year and luckily the day I was in the Hunter happened to be one of them. Tasted and loved the 1999 Cabernets, bought a couple of bottles which sat in the back of my car for the rest of the trip (Hunter Valley to Brisbane via Byron Bay then back through Sydney, Canberra, Yarra Valley, Melbourne and Coonawarra before reaching home in Adelaide two weeks later.) Not ideal cellaring conditions! But let the bottle settle for a month or so before opening at my sister’s 25th Birthday dinner. Was it good? Oh, yeah. Top 5 all time wines.

QOTD1: Sauerkraut and onion – from Gray’s Papaya!
QOTD2: The most I’ve ever paid on a wine was $80, but it was the 2001 Le Macchiole Scrio on Cindy a while back and it is $100+ normally, so I guess it fits the bill. After all, even that’s big money for a CKC, right? I opened it a week ago, and I was not disappointed. Thanks for bringing the thunder with this deal.

QOTD: I don’t eat hot dogs all that much but usually I go with just straight up mustard.

  • Anonymous

Nice job with the big, bad boys!

QOTD#1: Ketchup, mustard, sweet relish & onions

QOTD#2: I’ve not knowing had any $100 wines, but I’ve got a 1976 Chateau Lafite Rothschild in my “cellar” that I’m looking forward to drinking as soon as my best buddy gets back to the Mainland.

  • QOTD1: Hot dog straight with mustard. If you switch to a bratwurst then mustard with sauerkraut. The brauts need to be par boiled in a dark beer first and the grilled.

Mouth feel, my palette loves the silky wine that has a nice viscosity.

For a spur of the moment Vayniac offer; I would be honored to shoot a viewer side review of the Ferraton Ermitage Le Meal if you want to send one out!?!

QOTD2: Best $100 bottle of wine… I have not made that play yet, best bottle I have had was in a secret pack from this last Christmas, the 2006 Chateau Montviel.

  • Flash

Comte De Vouge Bonnes Mares. 1990.

  • Thursday

lets see that ferraton on cindy!!! … not crawford

  • KP

QOTD – Spicy mustard only on my hot dog

  • Jim Boland

QOTD 1 : Pearl Country Club Dog with Brown Mustard, Chopped Onion, Pepper Relish
QOTD 2 : 2000 Rudd Oakville Estate Proprietary Red

  • Kthomas5000

QOTD1 – Mayonnaise and Taco Bell Mild sauce.

  • QOTD 1- Chilli ketchup, Pickles, Onions, mustard
    QOTD 2- Pichon-Longueville?

  • Mott

    To each his own.

  • Mott

Ha ha! It’s gotten to the point where I can read Gary’s body language. I can usually tell he’s going to score something 85 even before he scores it. 😉

    Congrats on becoming a Nana.

Now that’s more like it, although I think the pendulum swung a little far from $9 bottles to $100+ bottles. Still, interesting. I have 6 bottles of the 2005 Smith Haut Lafitte in my cellar that I bought for $63 per bottle. I gave that wine 94 points so I’m fairly happy with that purchase decision.

QOTD1: Hot dog with Stadium brown mustard and grilled onions.
QOTD2: Tough question. I’ll go with just about any of the Quilceda Creek Cabernets that I’ve had.

  • Anonymous

QOTD 1 – Relish, onions & little bit of mustard =)

  • scottEJ

Great show, G. Sometimes those flavor profiles and mouthfeel descriptions are what keep me coming back for more. Imagine if all wine was that of last weeks?

QOTD 1: I can do a high-quality beef frank on a steamed bun – period. No need for the sauces of the veggies. But, most often, it’s just a little mustard and some onions. However, the caveat is that the frank HAS to be a high quality dog and usually Kosher. If you’ve ever had a David Berg…you’ll know what I’m talking about.

QOTD 2: Aside from an Opus One that was pop-n-pour at a party and thought was meh…never had one in a proper setting, ie: decanted, good stemware, not mixed w/other crap.

  • Team Ketchup! Go Mott! 🙂

  • Anonymous

I’m a vegetarian however there was only one way to do it. Chicago-style. All beef, kosher, hot peppers, celery salt, relish, onions, mustard, pickle and tomato. Same with the polish sausage.

  • Phil G

Yes I have that wristband – don’t have the green one, though – how can we get that one?

Like the ‘baller’ show, but hope you don’t stay in that zone for too long.

QOTD1 – not too many hot dogs, but if I have one, it is with ketchup
QOTD2 ? no idea, I have tried a good number of expensive wines, but never one that I purchased

    You’re moving on to Scotch?

  • Anonymous

In my mind I’m like a castello(Castle). But really I’m more like Costello but not near as funny.

  • Anonymous

What do you base this on?

  • Anonymous

Where is the troutmonster. I want to friend him up.

  • James Wu

For the love of God, someone teach Gary some French, it’s embarrassing.

  • Allan

No, no, no… I’m just not gonna drop so much money on a single bottle of vino, these days. I want some QPR… 🙂

(sorry, my mistake, i wrote 100 a year, haha, i meant, i will only buy ONE 100 bone bottle of vino a year.. such a dumb mistake, no, not gonna quit the vino, at all!)

  • Allan

    HA HA OK! 🙂

QOTD1 – Best hot dog is the bigger bite from 7-11, a thick layer of nacho cheese from the machine, 2 stripes of ketchup, and 3 jalapeno slices… my mouth is watering just thinking about it.

QOTD2 – Haven’t knowingly had anything over the $20-30 range

  • QOTD: Hotdog: Sauerkraut, onions and Dijon mustard – *never* any ketchup.

    Great show.

  • Sara Salcedo

    Hot Dog:
a little bit of Mayo, Ketchup, Mustard and crushed potato chips on top !!!!!! THE BEST!!!
