QOTD : Tenuta Luisa Tocai Friulano – fantastic – complex and balanced – balance is the key. A varietal I first heard about here – and one of my favs.

No doubt GV, that nebbiolo is the grape. I’m lovin’ these high end Fridays, I know you get the babies that complain about expensive wines but th fact that you hit everyones preferences is awesome. Keep up the great shows! I also think for more reasonable priced nebbiolo, Valtellina Superior is bringing the thunder.
QOTD: I think I’m going to open an Aston Estates pinot. I’ve only tried their non release 2004 but plan on trying the 06 clone 777

  • OMG I LOVE BARBARESCO!!! good episode GV… ;-)… i hung out with Bruna (Bruno’s daughter whose taken over the domaine) for about an hour and a half last spring, drinking through all their wines… i interviewed her for my wine blog… anyways the point is i love barbarescos & barolos!!!!… (i was fortunate enough to hang out with Gaia (Anjelo’s daugher) and Roberto Voerzio as well (the dude’s insane SO FREAKIN PASSIONATE and very nice !)… if anyone’s got the chance to visit, YOU MUST!… and trust me i’m a small tater in the wine industry… just tell them you’re a blogger and you’re in!… ;-P

my Bruna favs were 2005 Bruno Giacosa Classic Method Spumante Extra Brut; 2005 Azienda Agricola Falleto, Barbaresco DOCG; and 2005 Azienda Agricola Falleto ?Le Rocche del Falleto?, Barolo DOCG…. all above 50 euros purchased at the estate… EXCEPT the spumante was around 13 Es!

    cheers !

WOW. I am not one of those who think that crappy wines make for a crappy show. But! I do have to admit that tremendous wines always make for tremendous shows and today is no exception. I am happy to get to watch this.

Two new items now go on my bucket list, and since I will in all likelihood buy them from WL, that will put GV in a special catagory. Nobody else since Jody Scotchless in high school has had the distinction of both adding and crossing off more than one item on the list.

I love the subtle embedded apology to Fl State – Classic GV.

QOTD: Tonight I am drinking 06 Louis Jadot Chateau Des Lumieres, Cote du Py, Morgan. Tomorrow it is the 08 Fire Block Watervale Riesling.

FYI a rusty nail is Drambuie and Scotch. now back to the show.

I’m going to finish the Montirius Gigondas bottle I opened late last night and I’m lovin it. May follow it up with the Massolino Barolo to see if I want more.

GV, I now know what you mean by being addicted to acid. I’ve been dreaming about opening a dry, acidic Riesling for a few days now.

Great show! I am so happy you have started doing these “high-end” videos.

Bruno Giacosa is one of my very favorite Barbaresco and Barolo producers, and Nebbiolo became my co-favorite varietal about ten years ago… co-favorite with Pinot Noir based wines.

I was also delighted with your comments on the Philip Togni. It became one of very favorite Cabernet Sauvignons from my first taste (the 1992 Cab). You hit the nail on the head with comments of great “balance” and “not over-done” oak.

By the way, Philip Togni makes a delicious, very limited red dessert wine called Ca’ Togni. It is made from the Black Hamburgh grape from which was made the world famous and great Constantias from Cape Town in the late 1700’s and well into the 1800’s. It was considered the best dessert wine in the world at that time, even better than Chateau d’Yquem. It is spectacular with a Blueberry Clafouti dessert.

QOTD: We are having a 1995 Chateau Tertre Roteboeuf with a lamb dish tonight.

  • Michael Obrien

Hendricks and Tonic — w’Cucumber slice tonight

I don’t know yet. My sister is visiting from italy, (they’re stationed at Aviano) she brought me a gallo negro Chianti. And a Bressan NO 1 2001…did some research, and it’s a blend of a few things. Don’t know what the info on it is, but going to do some research first.

QOTD: Newcastle Beer and/or Vanilla Vodka & Ginger Ale over ICE, ICE, BABY!

  • Anonymous

Nebbiolo happens to be my favorite grape, and so I was debating with myself whether to make a splurge on that Giacosa barbaresco, but now I’m set. I’m sooo gonna get that bad boy barbaresco for my birthday in September.

QOTD: Away from home for the weekend at my aunt’s, and won’t be drinking any wine. Most likely will be drinking water instead.

You have issues that even Mott can’t fix.? Reboot the county!!!!!!!!!!

  • vinoreviews

QOTD: 06 Zaca Mesa Syrah and 08 L’Ecole No 41 Semillon

  • Mont’s got it @Garyvee ! I <3 the high end wines this show! I'll be drinking some White wines from Burgundy.

  • Anonymous

that sounds kind of nasty. Have you had one? It has to be from the 40’s or 50’s?

  • Zino

Great to see your enthusiasm for the last two wines. Recently had a 1997 Barolo and I know what you mean about power and finesse. I’m not knocking you, but don’t understand where you’re coming from in saying that Nebbiolo is going to rise in stature, price etc. – the top end stuff is very expensive and it has long been the aristocrat of Italian grapes?

QOTD: This weekend I’ll be drinking La Rasina 2004. I was in the US recently and bought it from your store on a very strong recommendation from older member of your staff.

  • Anonymous

Good episode, also like the Malbec’s although not at that pricepoint.

QOTD – On duty this weekend so mostly water and maybe Diet 7 Up.

  • PearlGirlWhirl

WhitewaterRafting this weekend, so drinking a lot of water, hopefully only from a bottle… Don’t know what wine will be served in evenings, I’m not on KP duty this time…

    Do’h that’d be 2001 Bressan No 3.
    ANyone ever have it before?

  • NY Pete

    hey hey

QOTD: After seeing today’s show, I might open a Togni and revisit a ’98 Principiano Barbaresco, especially if I put some filet mignon on the grill. Also wanted to try a MacMurray Ranch Chard–kept bringing them to different invites, but never opened or tasted one.

  • Anonymous

Had the La Rasina last weekend at a birthday celebration. Excellent, very food-friendly.

you gotta love the diet 7-up!!

  • waynooo daaa wino

    Better Yet, Maybe I’ll Drop-Kick this Frickin’ Computer……. ;o)

  • Tofferotti

Impressive day. I love nebbiolo. From the top levels to the lower end they have good character. I’ve been stocking good barolo and barbaresco in my cellar. Have to add the Giacosa now too. Wouldn’t mind getting a crack at the Togni either. Babay steps…

QOTD: Riesling, 90 Kung Fu Girl and a Leitz Einz, Zwei, Dry

  • Anonymous

    🙁

  • Hendrik

Good, simple, straightforward Gary V. Just the way I like it. Sir Vaynerchuk, your bombastic head into the basket.

QOTD: Bouchard Pere & Fils Gevrey-Chambertin at the moment, with a Seguro Viuda Cava in the fridge for subsequent fortification.

After seeing Wine Spectator’s “Bordeaux Diet” article about the Art, Exploration, Fun, and Basic, you should do a Supermarket episode about Bordeaux Basic. Pretend you’re visiting an all night store in Europe and pick up a few 2 euro bottles at random. That would be fun and interesting too. If I had to pick one bottle of wine for a desert island I think it would be a Bordeaux.

Great show Gary – and I’ve really been enjoying all the high-end shows this week. I feel like the smarter idea would have been to have the high-end show timed to the middle and/or end of the month when folks have pay checks rolling in. While I understand the show isn’t about selling wine, I’m sure you’d love more and more people to give some of these superstars a shot. Much easier to do that when you’re flush!

QOTD: Grilling grass-fed steaks with portabello’s and asparagus on saturday, so gotta find a nice elegant bottle to stand up to the big meal.

  • Jrussell92037

another lurker coming out of the woodwork! long time watcher, never seen the kind of scores you posted this week; bogus 90 Pt, unreal 97 pt and 95 for TONGI. Spring Mt. is way underrated for the quality they produce. Check out Smith Madrone.

Rusty Nail’s popular in late 60’s, early 70’s—possibly before, but that’s when I learned to make and drink them. Wasn’t a cocktail of choice for me though.

  • Anonymous

    hate it!

  • Anonymous

Hendricks turned me off the only time I had it. May have to revisit w/cucumber.

  • Lwatkins

Drinking Twenty Rows the Grappler and Spanish beer
