Damilano Nebbiolo D’Alba….very nice, great price point and a good little food wine…

question for you? what do you do right after the show…I mean right after “that was a good one right Mott”?

Solid episode, can’t go wrong with classic old world regions/grapes/styles.

It’s great that in some areas winemakers still aim to make wines the same way they have always been instead of trying to compete with new world warm climate fruit and oak bombs. Although, I gotta mention that whatever Gary says there still are a lot of great Chiantis (Classico or Rufina mostly) 25 ?/$ or less that are great dry, acidic food wines. I find Chianti Classicos from Brolio and Nozzole to offer good value.

QOTD: I have very limited experience of mature Nebbiolos but I did enjoy Luigi Einaudi Barolo 2003 last winter quite a bit

  • Whenever Gary shoots a couple of episodes in a row he gets funnier with each one. I think it has something to do with the alcohol… πŸ˜‰

Rewind, big pens exploding in your mouth… yeah πŸ™‚

QOTD: Yes, I definitely want to try it!

We don’t have high schools here in the UK. The only graduations are from university. I never went to university because I was too lazy so my grades weren’t where they were supposed to be. My last year of school was 1990.

That’s some serious juice, The RabajΓ . Bruno Rocca’s Barbarescos is better than Gaja’s in my opinion πŸ™‚

G, nice show on what is a tremendous Italian food wine. Another great example of what this show delivers in content.

    QOTD 1) 1984.

QOTD: 2) Wouldn’t know where to begin. The Renato Ratti line is probably one the best I’ve had. Grasso is another I’ve always gravitated to.

    QOTD: 1982
QOTD: I’ve had plenty of Nebbiolo including Langhe Rosso that was probably mostly Nebbiolo. I can’t afford the big boys, Barolo, Barbaresco. I’m comfy with wines like the ones on today’s WLTV.

yeah…76 points and throw it to the gutter where it belongs brutha!

  • Dbedini

Hey, DaveAll, I graduated 1967, so don’t get too proud! ;^) Rubber soul was The album. TV was not that important, but boy, music sure was.

Thanks for introducing me to some alternatives to Barbaresco. I don’t know if you remember, but I bought Federico Ceretto a copy of “Crush It” and had you sign it in San Francisco.

Pondering a very cool Halloween-themed WLTV intro to send you. Are there any guidelines we should follow in terms of time, audio, file type/size?

Erie, you peeked at some of the other 180 pages πŸ˜‰

I vividly remember all of your references. I was a senior in class at St
Edward’s H.S. in Lakewood, Ohio when the principal came on the PA system to
announce that JFK had been assassinated. I, personally use it as a dating
standard. If they can’t relate to that then probably we’re not on the same
page on a lot of other things πŸ˜‰

I believe John Farrin takes that award!! 1963 i think

  • Paulballou

QOTD- Another old timer, I’m from the class of ’73. I couldn’t say which Nebbiolos, but I have enjoyed several wines from Langhe. There are just so many wines from Italy I’m just getting the framework straight in my head.

  • DaveAll

ah. good. i feel younger now. phew.

Will you get more of the Malvira?

  • QOTD1: 1977

QOTD2:haven’t tried any nebbiolos other than Barolos and Barberescos. Given the variability of results of this program’s flight (1 fantastic, one fine, one bad), it pays to do one’s research before buying. Mind you, they are less expensive that Barolos and Barberescos so it is easier to experiment.

QOTD: Berkeley High School, Berkeley CA Class of 1980
    Wow, 30 years already!

Haven’t had any Nebbiolos yet that I can think of. Definitely on the list.
Gotta find one that isn’t super tannic, otherwise my palate will make me regret it.

QOTD1: I’m probably (one of the ) youngest of the bunch around here. Graduated high school in 2006.
QOTD2: I had the 2003 Fontanafredda Serralunga d’Alba Barolo last year, and it got me hooked on nebbiolo. In retrospective, that particular barolo wasn’t that amazing (but still solid), although that’s because I’ve found along the way other nebbiolo-based wines that I enjoyed more. In any case, nebbiolo remains my all-time favorite grape.

Slurpin’ some Emiliana 2007 COYAM this evenin’, and it’s ok.

Smells like a new pair of black leather boots, with some black and red fruits mixed in between. I get a hair of oak, i must say (tryin’ not to sound like Sir Gary, HEHE) But it could be worse than this. It’s very well proportioned. 89p. And it totally works with my blood red Rib-Eye Steak!!! CHEERS!!!!!!!!! πŸ™‚

Class of 77 (crappy music, even crappier clothes) I found a really interesting domestic nebbiolo in New Mexico believe it or not. Vivac Winery, a small, family run business between Santa Fe & Taos produces a bold, but really well balanced Nebbiolo at a reasonable price. They don’t bottle much of it, but if you can find some online or while in NM it’s worth a shot.

“So, she left Marty Rio’s son,
    just like a bullet leaves a gun…………”

  • I love nebbiolo-based wines, i think they are the best italian red wine and among the best of the world. Nebbiolo wines come from Piedmont (nebbiolo, barolo, barbera, barbaresco) and Lombardy (Valtellina, Grumello, Inferno, Sforzato or Sfursat).

  • QOTD #1: 1993
QOTD #2: Had a great Pio Cesare at Smith & Wollensky. VERY YOUNG but also very good.
