Sweet love Washington state wines… best in the US!!!! had the amavi… liked…didnt love…. cant wait to see it!

  • Two brown bag episodes in row! I’m in heaven! Now to watch …

  • Anonymous

QOTD – best washington state wines… Pomum Shya red and the Cougar crest 2003 reserve syrah – worst…. cant think of a bad one…. love the WS wines!

  • Love the brown bag episodes! Also, it’s 3:20PM and I’m sitting in my office with the smell of Mr. Bubbles on my mind.

  • QPR seems so difficult to predict. I visited the tasting room of a LI winery about a month ago, and their $12 Cab was far more complex and interesting than their $25 “reserve” Cab. As for Washington, can’t recall anything I’ve had from there, but the Amavi seems like it would be worth the search.

Any other Vayniacs planning to run NY on November 7th? GV promised a shout-out on the matter, but I’m preempting him.

I cheated and peeked in. This looks excellent. I loved Dunham Cellars’ Cabernet Sauv., and His 3-Legged Red was a $20 favorite. Stoked to watch, later!

No time for comment…gotta see where I can get the Amavi in Europe.
Gary: Nice catch on the Cab Franc (it was on the 3rd wine). Mindblowing how you can detect it.

  • Anonymous

QOTD: Maryhill 2003 Cab Sauv was the best, any vintage of Columbia Crest Cab Sauv gets a score of “paint thinner” at my home.

  • I “love” the way they described their name…Amavi

  • New angle there, Wine and marriage material πŸ™‚
Pauillac with umph… hmm sounds really nice, but I want my Comtesse feminine
    Picked the franc, good
QOTD: sorry no washington state yet, not big in Sweden dude.

  • Allan

    Top It!

Best Dunham Syrah and Qualcedia Creek cab

  • Globex

Susan in Miami???? Dude, do tell the rest of that story please! Between Susan in Miami on Wine#1 and Lucy Goosey on Wine#2, very fun show! Watched it here at the office while enjoying sardines in olive oil, paired with an ice cold Busch with it’s natural aging and carbonation.
QOTD: recently had a 2005 Pirouette that I enjoyed.

  • Gald to see WA getting some love on the Thundershow.

    QOTD: a few of each

    Best: Pomum, Stevens, DeLille
Worst: Airfield, Alder Ridge, Ross Andrew

There’s a ton more in each category, but those are just a few.

  • Never had a Washington State wine, anyone in England who knows where to pick up some good stuff?

I have done this for a while though:

I will send you a bottle from England if you taste it on WLTV!

Excellent, Excellent show. Brown Bags are great. You really “Brought It”! Gotta love KMurph, she did well with the Amavi. I can’t wait to find me a bottle. Don’t be raising that price on the Amavi from $22, just because you thought it was a $50 bones wine.
QOTD: Don’t drink much Washinton wine .

  • Allan

Great show! only wish i could get those wines where i live.

    Qotd: ?

Suckin’ on some 2008 Georg Breuer Charm this evenin’ and hey, it’s great!!!. Love the minerality and stoney flavours on this one. Even some white peaches and flowers. It’s a sweet/sour masterpiece. 93+ p. πŸ˜›

    Cheers everyone!!!!!!!!!

You’re in good form with the Jets’ win and good grape juice to sample.

Haven’t seen the show yet, but, am gonna go out on a limb and say the Amavi is a winner. One of my favorite WA wines and a terrific qpr.

This is a transition day for me. I think that this may be the first time that ‘ve had something in my racks for a couple of years that you’re just finding out about. I have a couple of bottles of the 2005 that WS gave 92pts. Haven’t had one yet but they’ve been sitting there for a couple of years.

QOTD: Closest thing that I’ve had to worst would be the flawed bottle of 2004 Boudreaux that unfortunately was my first (of 8) that I have. It wasn’t really bad like corked, it was just like ….nothing. Fortunately the second bottle that I tasted last year improved dramatically. Probably the best that I’ve had was the 2005 Pomum Shya Red last April. I served it along side a 2004 Beausejour Duffau with Chateaubriand with Bearnaise and Rosemary & Garlic Roasted Red Potatoes and Grlled Asparagus. What a memorable meal.

Thank you again for both wine recommendations!

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHA The Sanchize!!!! HAHAHA

    Another great show.

Wow! Two straight great BB shows. Amazing. I guess we were due. That Amavi sounds incredible and what an awesome QPR. I’ve been to Washington State touring the wineries several times and I have never heard of Amavi. Interesting. Don’t scold KMurph – she’s awesome!

QOTD: My favorite Washington State wines are still the red from Boudreaux Cellars. I also love my Quilceda Creek Cabs, but there are pretty expensive. The most disappointing? Cannot recall any that were that disappointing from among the ones I’ve tasted. Some were certainly better than others, but nothing was really disappointing other than a couple of the little garage-type places along Rattlesnake Ridge. Oh, yeah, I also really enjoy J. Bookwalter’s red wines as well.

hahahahhahahah…im 22 and single. apparently i am missing out on some experiences in miami?

Another great show Gary. Please keep the brown bags going. QOTD: Bridgman Syrah was one of the first wines that I started enjoying a few years ago. I really liked their winemaker Brian Carter and then moved “up” to their Apex wines.

  • Back to back brown bags? Controversial. That is why I love this show. We are being spoiled right now, do you think you might miss another week after this episode? Too much thunder. Really feeling the wines (virtually and vicariously)!!!

QOTD: Um… I know I have had some WA wines in my classes but not able to recall them.

    Thanks Gary and Mott.

  • Anonymous

QOTD: Love Reininger, heard of Amavi, will try to find some. Haven’t found any WA state wines that were very disappointing except maybe an entry-level Chateau St. Michelle Chard.

  • Nor UK, it’s annoying!

  • Anonymous

QOTD: cant say i have enough experience in the washington state area to make a good comment on that.

big question though…what type of impact do you think Gary has on wineries when he praises a wine like that? i would love to hear what happens to their email, phone, twitter etc tomorrow.

  • Love Life; gotta go find the Amavi.

QOTD: Never had any Washington State wines but we shall see if we can get the Amavi here in Michigan.

  • K Vintner all the way!!

  • NY Pete

    hey hey

Best – Betz Pere de Famile Cabernet 2005

Worst – Anything by Red Diamond

I’ve had the NxNW and enjoyed it. Is it possible @garyvee had an off bottle?

I love how you Tweet about your trip to Minnesota today, yet say “Yesterday’s show” as though you DIDN’T tape it in the same day as yesterday’s show, just changing shirts… just gotta call you out…

I hope you can get more of the Amavi in, of course I would have bought some but with <1 case, you've already sold out as I watch this. (I know I should trust my own palate BUT… that sounds good!)

QOTD: I tend to really enjoy WA state wines, and even their chardonnays (which as a varietal I tend to dislike) are pretty good… I can't find in my notes a least favorite, but as far as a favorite, one that really surprised me was the Bernard Griffin RosΓ© of Sangiovese ('09). I enjoy most rieslings WA puts out as well, even those widely available such as Ste Michelle & Columbia Crest. The CC Two Vines are great value plays year after year as well.

  • After seeing the lineup, I was pretty sure that the Amavi would get the top score today. They really are producing some very nice wines, and the pricepoint is incredible. I believe there is some affiliation with Pepper Bridge, and that they share the same winemaker. They have a tasting room in the Seattle area (Woodinville), as well as Walla Walla.

As a Washington wine geek, I’m generally very aware of our state’s wineries, but I’ve never even heard of NxNW.

QOTD: Finest? Well, probably the syrahs from Cayuse, but the brand new Kaella wines of WLTVforum’s own winestein come in at a close second! Also at the top of my list are wines from Walla Walla Vintners, Syncline, Betz, DeLille, Woodward Canyon, and Cote Bonneville. The worst? I honestly have had very few “stinkers” from our fine state, but wine geeks should probably stay far away from Maison de Padgett (unless you like sugary koolaid drinks or coffee-flavored ports).

  • @ONUMello: I don’t know if Wine Library will be getting more of our ’07 cabernet, but we still have a bit more at the winery before we move into the ’08 later this fall. We’re currently offering free shipping on a full case if you order by phone: (509)525-3541

    @Allan: Yeah it is!

Thanks for another great show! Love, love WA State wines — and Walla Walla, in particular.

    Best: Januik, Mark Ryan
Worst: Hmm… Not a big fan of Columbia Crest. (That said, the ’07 H3 Cab is surprisingly good!)

Don’t comment very often, but have to weigh in when it’s my home state – I’ve been focusing a bit on Washington wine, because it helps to narrow the field when you’re trying to get more serious, and being that I live here, the availablity and selection is fantastic.

    QOTD:
Best: 2004 Forgeron Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Champoux Vineyard – unbelievable
Worst: Renegade, at least recently. It’s been need to see some of the better Washington producers come up with value labels (in this case, it’s Sleight of Hand’s value label), but I’ve tried a couple things by them and been decided underwhelmed.

Just ordered 4 bottles of the Amavi Cab from Full Pull Wines….
