Don’t get me wrong – I like a bit of wine knowledge as much as the next man, but this is just a bit too nerdy for me. Guest had a lot of good things to say but wouldn’t want to get stuck in a lift with him. #boremetodeath

    Interesting person. Good interview.

Overall, I think I like hearing the importers more than the producers. . . .

I like to listen to experts who are interested in terroir. I was glad to hear that Peter named Kermit Lynch as an important influence on his business. Looking forward to Tuesday’s show. Love ya Gary, but someday a guest is going to override you and ask if they can finish the question that you asked them. Chill a tiny bit ;^{)>

  • lets roll out the beard Gary until Jets lose. No chance it goes all the way to Super Bowl, but that would be epic

    Love it

    Gary,
Great show. I enjoy the importers almost as much as I enjoy your dad.

Long sleeve pull over? No artwork? Casual Monday?

One thing I’ve been meaning to ask; I am a middle aged guy, and my ears went through too many rock concerts, etc., but often I can’t hear Mott’s comments. I have to lean foreword and crank my audio engines. I can hear you great. Your perfectly mic’ed, but what about Mott? It’s killin me a little. Did I mention that I enjoy Mott almost as much as the importers and your dad, and of course you.

    Just a suggestion

Good show! Maybe link up part 2 now! MOTT!

  • Great Interview. I learned a lot especially about Alsace wines. I’m looking forward to part 2. For a beginner I really appreciate the insight. I’m especially loving the part about the producer becoming closer to the consumer. I have a history of wholesale and retail and love the thought of people being able to relate and understand the motivation of the producer. Bravo

Who knew My Favorite Martian likes vino……..

Cool show and guest. Hanging on for part 2…….

  • What a nice gentleman. He thanked you after pouring his glass of wine.

    Looking forward to Part 2.

    Cheers!

P.S. Congrats on your Jets victory. I heard it was “lucky” but hey, a win is a win.

  • K is for Kate

I definitely think that your shows with importers have been some of your best. With the respect that you have for these guys, I have never been able to figure out why I can’t search by importer on the WL site!

Really interesting interview, looking forward to Part 2.

  • Is it typical for the importers to bring that sense of overview where as the producers are stuck on their own wines and have no knowledge of what others are producing? I’m fairly new to wine and I’m loving this guys show and what he brings to the table. He seems very forthright about what he thinks and brings that out in his guests. No wonder he’s so popular.

  • Mott

We use a shotgun mic and I sit behind it so that’s why you can’t hear me. I have nothing important to say anyway.

What Audio Engines do you have? A2? A5?

  • Zoltarswim

This is an excellent episode with an excellent guest. I will be purchasing wines imported by Mr. Weygandt as balance is the chief characteristic I look for in a “great” wine. -MZ

Good interview with a good guest. I enjoy the business side of it as much as the wine part. Look forward to the rest.

Great to see Peter on the show! Hopefully he talks about the Phillies and how much they rock!

Peter, along with Neal Rosenthal and Kermit Lynch, are the bomb in terms of importers!

I told him to. We’ll see what happens tomorrow

i’m guessing Peter stayed up all night on Sunday crushing mags of Loibner Steinertal as Oswalt torched the Giants.

  • Lessthanzero

Peter’s a stand up guy and very, very accessible. Easily the most enjoyable wine shop in town.

  • And that’s why your in the will castello. 😉 Go Lions…. 🙂

  • I love these guests. They bring the nerd thunder to Gary and the comments.

(aka: dont’ know squat but I enjoy listening and reading the comments)

  • Gary thank you for commenting

  • Wow Dick I thought i was being good today 🙁

Peter, like Kermit, comes across with such authenticity and humility that he’s a treasure to listen to and be educated by. I seriously believe that over the past 4 years I have received a Bachelor’s Degree’s worth of worldwide wine knowledge from WLTV and I APPRECIATE it Gary. Thank you once again.

Sorry Tooch but in cased you didn’t notice, the Phillies lost home field advantage 😉 Go Giants!

Just great. Looking forward to part II. I just love to listen to the backstory. Good job K-Murph! Peter seemed impreesed by you.

    I totally agree.

After a long day at home with sick 3yr. old daughter it was such a treat to watch Part I.

  • NY Pete

    you were.

  • MacSteveH

Really interesting show. This and the Kermit Lynch are among my favorites.

  • jahlove

I think Gary is doing about as good a job as I’ve ever seen him do with a guest, as far as not constantly interupting. He is definitely wearing his nerd hat in the this episode and I’m glad for it. Peter is a very soft spoken guy and can easily be overwhelmed by a personality as big as Gary’s. Either I haven’t given Gary enough credit or he’s been coached up on how to play this one. Notice no scoring, judging of the Albert Mann wine. He’s being respectful but still asking some very honest and pointed questions. I’ve been looking forward to this episode for a very long time and so far it’s living up to the hype, ranking right up there with the Kermitt Lynch episode. If only he had brought a Pichler though….

  • NY Pete

in the immortal words of the esteemed SS Chris … you can both GFYs … 🙂

  • Anonymous

You were VERY good today Gary. Dick is simply emulating his name 😉

  • Yup, had that one coming. But does this mean you’ll no longer not spit for me? ;P pppppplllltt

  • Wow. Another angle if of the wine world that I was not privy to. It’s great to see that the passion of beautiful, though provoking, inspirational wines is not monopolized by individual growers/wine makers. Kick ass to see an importer with the passion to share it all.

  • Interesting first part. I’m curious about the Chateauneuf Du Pape on the table…
