    Hi Gary,

very nice. I love Valpolicella. ItΒ΄s what I consider a perfect every day wine (concerning QOTD some episodes back)

QOTD: A nice 5 course dinner close by Barbaresco. Had some Roero Arneis and a nice Dolcetto by P. Cesare with it.

    Take care
PS Did you ever do an Arneis episode?

  • You were pumped for the 04 Marion and as a result, I will track that little bottle down. I loved the excitement… great description–way to bring it home for me since I work two minutes away from Bev Hills.

    QOTD:
The Indian food I ate on my birthday!

    BTW: LET’S GO DUCKS!

    QOTD: Myself

qotd: tough. I’m just gonna go with the braised beef shanks I had last night with some glazed root vegetables, fresh egg noodles.

But tonight I’m going to sautee a few lamb chops in browned butter and top with something involving some rosemary from the garden and maybe some bucheron cheese…. Also have some brussels sprouts ready to go in the garden. Haven’t decided on what to do for starch or wine, but I do have a priorat on the counter that will probably go well.

  • Markgcorbo

Hey Gary you should do a follow up episode with Amarone

  • Anonymous

Hey Gary, I have tried a few amarones before but didn’t like any of them. But based on Mott’s reaction to the Marion valpolicella, I gotta try it. QOTD: the most delicious thing I’ve had in the last 6 months was the bottle of 01 Torbreck Runrig I had on my 50th birthday.

  • Neil

QOTD: Royal Tokaji paired with seared foie gras at Gary Danko.

  • and bring in Sasha so we can see one actually drink the wine πŸ˜€

QOTD: Tres Leches cake my wife made.

  • TX Garry for something new

  • Isn’t Ripasso the baby brother to the well-known Amarone or is it the second cousin :)I have more and more begun to see this show as a radio show…1470 you drank the wine from a cheramic cup or a silver goblet :)Marion 2006 is for sale at 50 bones in my country.. is that worth while? HmmmQOTD: Most D 6 months.. how shall I begin, it’s so.. no wait A dinner at a famous Danish restaurant. The story is not possible to write here since there seem to be a limit .Here is the storyhttp://corkd.com/wine/view/116374-2007-chablis-domaine-chevallierhttp://corkd.com/wine/view/116375-2006-domaine-schlumberger-rieslinghttp://corkd.com/wine/view/116376-2006-clos-saint-jean-chateuneuf-du-papehttp://corkd.com/wine/view/116377-2006-viu-manent-late-harvest-semillon

QOTD: The 2004 Weingut Heinrich Mayer Zeller Schwarze Katz Eiswein
The ultimate high-end Jolly Rancher Green Apple: Super intense without the “fakey fake”
Excellent with the Tarte Tain I served at my birthday in August. Riesling Rules!

“It’s like that Dos Equis guy, if you crushed him up into a wine, I feel like this is what it would taste like” LOL QOTD: Six months is a long time with a lot of delicious things packed in, but probably my homemade chicken pot pie with my whole family at the table, including my Mom and my granddaughter.

  • Valpolicella…the AJ of the Italian wine region. πŸ˜›

QOTD: The stuffed pork chop I’m making for dinner tonight. πŸ˜€

  • DaveAll

Ripasso, Amarone, Valpolicella – ah, this is the right area to hit as it gets colder. thanks. Hits the spot, GV! Corvina is cousin to Merlot? I think.

QotD: Beef Burgundy my wife makes, in fact having it tonight. with a Valpolicella.

  • philoxera

    Hey where’s Pete?

    QOTD: Pilchards!

  • rwino

Good show GV, bringing interesting wines. QOTD: Tough call, I best say my wife πŸ™‚

  • Latour90

Another good one GV. The description of the Marion with the strawberry and chocolate was brilliant. BTW, laughed out loud with the Lizzie crackhead chocolate comment. Sounded SOO like my wife. If they made a law banning chocolate, she would be the first in a back alley looking for a fix.

QOTD: The Goulash Soup (really a meal in itself) at Zum Stamtisch in Queens.

  • philoxera

Ah! you must have heard me Pete!

  • EliseM

Had the Marion, LUV it. Sleak and powerfull, lot’s of juice….

Something triggers my memory, wasn’t it a cooperation/former winemaker/something with either Quintarelli or Dal Forno (the 2 best nerdy, way to expensive valpolicella producers in my book)?

QOTD My boyfriend’s a chef and he made sot l’y laisse (don’t know the English translation, but is’t a piece of the chicken) with lardo di collonata and a morel sauce. Nice bottle of Spatburgunder from Furst with that, and he made my year.

  • Anonymous

Exciting description on the Marion…my mouth is watering already!
QOTD: I shall not name names!

  • Oh, I love Valpolicella wine, specially Santi La Caleselle, not expensive and quite nice – http://www.flickr.com/photos/sokalo/3291180442

QOTD: The most delicious thing I’ve tried in the last 6 months, home made Portobello Mushroom Hamburgers, they were awesome.

Very Funny, “Can’t Smell Jack!” I was looking for the “Big Dump” on the whole bottle of Marchesi Fumanelli into the helmet? How could you score it even a 71 if it was that bad?

Whaaaat, a Cristina Aguilera circa 2004 reference “Dirty” Hilarious!!!!!! “High end cherries from Michigan” HaHaHaHa!!!!

It sounds like something my palate would like. I love that “Bone Dry” feel. This Marion Valpolicella, I may have to try. Way to bring the “THUNDER” back. I hear it clapping in the backround. I knew you could do it. I enjoyed this very much. Good content, Thanks!

  • APOLLO III

its crazy how instant gratification has taken over our life! everybody is saying what they had last night or what they r fixin tonight!! QOTD Malay rubbed lamb chops from Wild Ginger in Ric va

  • QOTD – Salame Picante Pizza – Salumi’s rosmarino salami, Peppadew sweet peppers, fresh mozzarella and fresh rosemary on a San Marzano tomato base. Delicious, capital D

  • LurkerKing

Textbook WLTV. Copious thunder. Dy-No-Myte circa Taio Cruz 2010.

    QOTD: Homemade Gnocchi with Guanciale.
    The Lurker Challenge Continues…

  • QOTD: grilled *fresh* wild sockeye salmon from the biggest run in over a 100 years!

Great show. Love Valpolicellae. That’s from where my (mother’s) family hails.

Are you going to start the next episode with “..or not!”? That’s like ending a piece of music on the dominant chord. I’m still waiting for resolution, here. Great episode. If I weren’t swimming in wine already, I’d be giving that last one a shot. I think my wife would love it.

QOTD: Brown sugar cheesecake from the Magnolia Grill. Absolutely blew me away with deliciousness. I had a glass of decent Sauternes with it, and decent wasn’t enough. It needed an aged Yquem to measure up – yep, that good.

  • Anonymous

QOTD — gonna have to thank about that one!

  • Among others, Liszt ends his Valse Oubliee #1 on the dominant… let’s hope Gary’s not entering his “Late Period”.

    Or NOT!
QOTD: Probably butter fish at Blue Ginger on our anniversary.

QOTD….I have to say that each and every time I pair Spanish Valdeon Bleu Cheese with a Chateau Doisy …..I am in ah of just how well they go together and just how damn good the combo is….

Great episode. Laughed out loud several times (even ill with the flu)!

QOTD: Pork shoulder pappardelle with apples and mascarpone served with a glass of Belle Glos Pinot Noir Sonoma 2008 from Niche in StL. The dish was one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. The wine was meh on its own, but perfect with the food.
