  • Oz seem a little less humble then Kermit and Peter 🙂 but a good sport.

    WHITE Chateauneuf du pape!

White Rhone/South Rhone/Languedoc [all whites] you know Roussane/Marsanne/Grench Blanc,Viognier Blends

  • Klasshis

Good to see the couch back. What I like about it is the tone it sets. Your more somber and personable, I know I’m in a little late, but a week of unwind with GV would be nice.

  • True blind tastings where you know nothing about the wines!

  • The couch is back in full effect!

Give us a great breakdown / parings for Thanksgiving or break down some cab francs.

  • Qotd: My gf says you should do pink wines this week for Breast Cancer Awareness Month!

  • Anonymous

    I like it Melba!!

  • QOTD – I like the earlier idea of the mixture of french wines and also was thinking of “wines for the fall”. There is always talk of “this would be a great summer wine”, so why not take a fall approach that isn’t just what to bring to Turkey Day.

Glad to see the couch back. Did you get thinner or did it get bigger. Or my memory might be waning in my old age…

  • Don Simpson

QOTD: I would be very interested in the following:

    — A Rhone Reds show where you pick one vintage and taste a Cotes du Rhone, Gigondas, and Chateauneuf du Pape side by side, I think that would be fascinating.

    — A show where you compare sparkling wine side by side from three regions in France you haven’t compared, maybe taste a Cremant d’Alsace, Sparkling Vouvray, and Cremant de Limoux.

  • Sverre S-O

QOTD – I would like a review of Vintage ports. I am interested in how aging affects the wine. Is it worth while to save the bottles for very long? I have a case of Graham vintage 2000 that is still to be tried. I did drink the Graham 1991 which was nice. Most of the time I find young port wines in the store.

  • Sverre S-O

I heard the Domaine de la Janasse should be a really nice wine and I bought a 2008 but have not tried it yet.

The much anticipated return of the “Laid Back (couch) Friday” episode! Your great, great, great Grandson, Theodore, will be very happy to see it as well.

QOTD: Next week- “The OTHER sparkling wines,” that is to say NO Champagne, NO Prosecco, even NO Cava or Cremant de Bourgogne or Cali sparklers. That is to say perhaps Cremant de Limoux (Let’s talk about Mouzac…)? LOIRE SPARKLERS (Vouvray, or even Cremant de Loire/rose that include Cab Franc in the blend, as I found a really well-made one lately), South African Sparklers that showcase Chenin Blanc, etc.

QOTD: Low cost, heavily available Bordeaux. See if you can unearth a gem.

QOTD: Would love to see shows on:
Mon – Collioure: 1 red and 1 white from the French region
    Tues – Beaujolais: a blind-tasting of say 5 from the 2009 vintage
Wed – Gimblett Gravels: tasting of a few from the NZ region
Thu – Australian Chardonnay: blind tasting of 5 with very different prices (say $10-50)
    Fri – Burgundy: 2 reds from Vosne-Romanee

BEEEEEE NEEEEEEEDNNNNNN the NEWWWWW WEEEEEEEEKKKKK OF “THUNDER”! We had a lot of thunder over night, but it is not the same as the WLTV “THUNDER”!

  • Larry

Can’t say much about this episode as I have never seen a sparkling wine in a screw cap. I like the pop of a cork though. Just got back from Japan so I would love to see a review of premium Sakes.

  • Kmurph

lol now that would be an interesting week of WLTV 😉

  • As I think it has been already said Prosecco is made in the cheaper Charmat method of second fermentation in tank which results in less bubbles and less pressure in the bottle when compared to the traditional method of bottle fermentation like Champagne, Cava or even Franciacorta.

So Prosecco is probably a candidate for screwcap but I don’t see how a full sparkling wine can keep the pressure with a regular screwcap. It will need the stronger bottle and something else in the cap to hold the 6 atmospheres in pressure!

That being said and for the same price buy a “real” traditional method from Cava, Cremants from Loire, Burgogne, Limoux or even Alsace… Dump the sweetish Prosecco! 🙂

  • QOTD. An all brown bag week, but DOUBLE BLIND! Not knowing the varietal or region, like you’ve been doing lately. Really test your palate, Gary!

  • QOTD: $50-$100 Red Burg! for sure…Alex

  • …Blind ??

  • Best wines to bring to a dinner party. Since we are moving into the holiday season & colder weather (in NYC @ least), many people will be going to small gathers, dinners, etc. I’ve always found it tricky what wines to select when in the store… So maybe wine suggestions or best practices for selecting a simple and affordable wine to share with friends & family.

  • LeeAnn Hopkins

LOVE the idea of Proseco in a screw cap…quick and easy for any occasion!

  • Donnellyryanp

Orange wines or new packaging like the Astrapouch http://www.drinkbluebird.com/pouch

  • Hey Gary,

Longtime lurker. First time commenter. Love your vids but I had to come out for this one. I don’t think prosecco is really a true “sparkling” wine – it’s just got a slight spritz or fizz (frizzante). Sparkling wine’s pressure in the bottle can reach 90psi (double the pressure in most car tires) and most soft drinks are bottled around 30psi. I’m pretty sure that prosecco wines are less fizzy (less dissolved CO2) than either soft drinks or sparkling wines, so to call the Primatera Prosecco a ‘sparkling wine with screw cap’ is a bit misleading.

QOTD I agree with Mike Z’s gf (in a comment below). Let’s see some great pink wines for breast cancer awareness.

    Cheers!

  • Cathy

QOTD – How about Sauternes…they are beautiful! I think most folks who are unfamiliar with them would benefit from a little GV insight.

  • QOTD: I’m catching up on this from last week and in hopes that you’re picking from the most recent, how about a week full of dessert/fortifieds??? Sauternes, port (both ruby and tawny… don’t know if you’ve ever done a show on tawny), sherries, maybe a dessert wine from the Loire (gotta love the Chenin), etc.

    Hope to see it.

  • Screwtop on sparkling is not cool…

QOTD: Alsace, white Chateauneuf, blind NZ sauvignon vs Chile, Argentina and South Africa, and a sparkling special with champagne, cremant de loire/bourgogne/limoux/alsace etc….

  • Danhicks2

I would like to see a show on any good bottles of bordeaux from the nineties for under $30

  • Anonymous

Even better if you can get him on with James May. Those two are great together.

  • Brian Jensen

Now that harvests are for the most part done, what is everyone hearing about the 2010 vintage? Sounds like it’s been a tough year in Napa.

  • Brian Jensen

    Thanks! Just watched it.

Now Gary doesn’t have to plan for 17 episodes. Just hand the list to K Murph…

  • Allan

    K-Murph!!! K-Murph!!! K-Murph!!! 🙂

  • sweet..the couch!
just getting back in the loop after a staycation doing work at home, and pretty much staying offline.

C’mon GV what were you expecting…where is the knowledge…it’s ONLY FRIZZANTE, you’d have to warm it and shake it to get it to blow over on you…I would think.
That said, great to hear that it is a sparkling deal…

OK gotta play catch up and download the other shows while I’m still here at work.

  • QOTD: THUNDER!

  • Slushpuppy

    Well said Carl!
    Smell it first.TR

  • TommyB

QOTD: Hhhmmm….. that’s a good one (sorry Gary, my comments have dropped recently but I’m sure you’ll appreciate that whilst currently in the middle of a degree and the start of a diploma – I’m an extremely busy man)!
Lets go to somewhere that may be in need of some assistance – Australia? Greece? English sparkling????!!!

  • NY Pete

how about some monday thunder … 🙂

  • I want to hear you rap about wine.

  • bobbytiger

I am going to suggest to Gary Vaynerchuk what to focus on?
    Not on your life.
You do it, I enjoy it.

  • DaveAll

Just getting to this – weekend of camping with my 30 favorite friends. We had Prosecco Friday night – how cool.
I like to pop my mouth also when I open a screw top. But don’t shy from them.
QotD: focus on fruit wines. I mean, how odd would that be?
