QOTD: I haven`t had a Californian wine that blew me away.. But I`ve had a couple of great Pinot Noirs from Oregon. And I do have two bottles of Californian wine lying around, just waiting for the right moment to open them. One Pinot from Russian River, and a Syrah from Central Coast. Looking forward to try them! 😀

  • NY Pete

Coleman Nicole is pretty damn good.

  • I was thinking about those concepts from last week, way to address it. Another fun episode.

Great show, cool idea and the prices don’t look ridiculous on tastingroom.com. Would love to try this type of product, but f-ing Massachusetts wine shipment laws will not allow it. GV get on top of this and pull some strings for me.

QOTD: Favorite CA wines are Alban, O.G. Rhone Ranger

  • TitanicJack

Love the 50 ML bottles and today’s show on reds. Please keep them coming.
QOTD: Shafer 2007 One Point Five cab. Beautifully balanced.

    This was fun!
QOTD: Not a one springs to mind, it’s been that long since I bought &/or drank a California wine. I really must do something about that!

Once again, this format was really fun. Very spontaneous, very sincere. If you had a pumpkin patch, the great pumpkin would be likely to show up – yes, very sincere.

QOTD: Recently, Lucia, Gary’s Vineyard Pinot Noir. However, I am always up for a good Ridge Zin. These were really the wines that got me into wine in the first place.

    Another great show.
QOTD: Lately I’ve been drinking a fair amount of Menage a Trois, by Folie A Deux winery. It’s a Zin, Merlot, and Cab blend. The price is certainly right, and I find it a good weekday after work wine.

  • Missatiejacket

I can’t name a single wine, but my favorite California winery right now (and for a while) is Copain. I love everything they do, especially the single vineyard Pinot Noirs and Syrahs from 2006 and 2007.

Interesting concept; wineries with a large variety of wines could really build their mailing lists via this format

  • QOTD well, my favorite California wine today is the 2007 Luna Cab Sauv I just tasted in on of my TastingRoom.com packs! =) Reviewed it on Cork’d.

  • Globex

I enjoy buying 750ml bottles of wine from WineLibrary/CinderellaWine as a result of learning of said wine via WineLibraryTV. A couple of these tastings today caught my attention, thanks for introducing them to me.

QOTD: my favorite California wine – anything bottled by Harry Fralich (Fralich Vineyard). Unfortunately outside of mine or Clint Eastwood’s cellars, it’s hard to find.

  • Purplejuicebruce

Jeff Runquist is making some of my favorite wines Petite Sirah, Barbera , Zinfandel, Cab Franc, Touriga to name a few

QOTD: Chateau StJean Cab. Super nice price on sale for $14 @ Meijer. Mostly drinking spanish and Italian wines right now at half that.

QOTD: I can’t pick just one. 2005 Wolff Family (Edna Valley) Petite Syrah, 2003 Ledson Barbera, 2004 Chimney Rock Cab, 2007 Ruby Hill Reserve Merlot, 2005 Klinker Brick Old Vine Zin…to name a few

  • Thenry

Have to go with Ridge; Jaffur (Santa Barbara) and Justin (Paso)

  • Sayle

Santa Barbara Winery’s 2005 La Fonde Grenache. Best wine ever.

  • Violetruby

I have a soft spot for RRV pinots and chards in general, but mostly their pinots.

I had a Zin a couple of months ago from the Lodi in Cali that smelled like oysters; that briny, oceany smell. My date thought I was nuts but I knew it was there!

QOTD: My favorite California right now would have to be the Elusiv pinot noir. I don’t buy a lot of California wine but we used to serve that one at the restaurant I work at and it was really nice: fruit-forward, with some nice earthy secondary flavors and enough structure to support them.

  • scottEJ

Thanks, G. Interesting concept. Not sure if I’d buy into it, but, interesting nonetheless.

QOTD: I’m off to Paso next week w/another couple and we’re gearing up for some big, big wines – L’Aventure is on our list as is Justin, McPrice Meyers, Denner, Booker, etc. So, at the moment, the big boys are front and center.

QOTD- Current CA favorite red is Paso area syrah. Since it’s not stylish, it’s inexpensive. Also finding some bargains in unsold older Napa cabs.

  • SniffySmith

If you have time, try checking out Wolff (2 f’s) Vineyards in Edna Valley. Small family run winery with great wines at good prices.

  • WineWoman

QOTD: Edmunds St. John Bone-Jolly, Dain Pinot, Black Kite Pinot, Justin Isosceles, Fitzpatrick Wines, Hecker Pass, Thomas Kruse, Turley Zin, Martinelli and Woodenhead French Colombard.

’07 La Sirena Cab – and Heidi’s funky Pirate Treasured. Great wine-great marketing!

QOTD: My most recent Local Find was on the “De Portola Wine Trail” in Temecula. It is Danza del Sol Winery, formerly Filsinger Vineyard and Winery. They had some great Reds. First time with a Black Muscat. I was a White Wine Nerdy Guy but I believe my Pallet is changing. Especially after tasting my latest Zin I just racked.

  • QOTD – It’s been a while wrt California wines. I had a Terlato Chardonnay (’06) this summer that I liked quite a bit. Very old world-style, and very good. Before that I tried a Cab/Syrah blend, but the bottle must have been cooked to perfection because it fell flat on its face (as opposed to “ripping our faces off”, as desired in such situations). Guess I could be supporting the home team a little more than I have been…

  • QOTD; 2006 Petite Sirah “Really Cool Trader Joe’s Wine Find” it’s the bottle I’m enjoying now.
I noticed you opened and tasted, six big ass glasses and a hour or two to breathe.

  • TLove

QOTD – As of right now, the Robert Biale Black Chicken Zin 2006. Set to change on a moment’s notice.

  • Hey gary just a Q for you…When you do put your pack together would you consider doing an episode where you announce in advance so we can scoop the pack and taste them along with you?

  • stewart l

Ridge zins remain my alltime favorite wines -esp. geyserville and lytton springs

  • How many wine bottles are on that table?

  • veez

    Sonoma
    Harts Desire, Hawley, Rochioli, Seghesio

Way hard to pick just one.

  • DaveAll
