Good episode – I love it when GV nerds it up with someone who knows as much (almost) as he does.

    What number am I……..?

I guess 3rd thanks to RANDI!!!!!!!!!

  • Nice, nice show with a knowledgeable guest, nice guy and who has my dream job.

“What would you pair this with?” Love that question. Wish we had more of those.

My only complaint, the links “Wines tasted in this episode” are not correct. Other than that, nice, esp to see Randi (yikes) and you didn’t cry too much and complain about the calls during the Jets game. Sorry, Gary, the refs this year have been abominable at best. The Skins should be 0-8 but they are crying over their 4-4 record.

Abrupt ending too? Looking forward to Part II

    Cheers!

P.S. Go Colts! Watch a master QB tonight. 🙂

  • Please fix links. The names and links go to different wines.

It is interesting to see that the choice was 2 pinots and a sparkling wine. I have not had either pinot, but I very much appreciate good ones. And sparkling wines are excellent and often under rated.

  • Great show. I REALLY have to try the 2008 Evening Land Pinot Noir La Source! Looking forward to part II!

  • I just finished reading Rajat’s book, and if you are really into wine, I urge you to read it. It is full of useful and “inside baseball”-type information that is hard to find. As an aside, I just printed and studied the winelist of RN74, Rajat’s restaurant in SF, and I was blown away by the completeness and judgment in creating this list. I found myself making all kinds of marginal notes as to producers to try, etc. just because they are featured on this list.
So, Gary, great guest! And Rajat, as a sommelier, you are in a class by yourself. If you’re coming to La Paulee in NY next Feb hopefully we can meet then.

  • Wyld

No QOTD? So… What happened to the Jets?

Good show, i hate to watch two parters before the second part is out, damn.

    Go Saints!

  • Great episode… LOVE the nerdy stuff…

    Can’t wait for Part 2!!!

I really like Raj, he is bringing some serious knowledge to the Thunder Show. Definitely going to go out and buy the book. I usually don’t like all the guests but Gary, you’ve hit a couple of home runs with some of these picks lately. Nicely done.

Great Show and guest. BTW Raj, if your reading the comments, I am really looking forward to meeting you Thursday in DC!

  • Decent show so far.

Recently tried the 08 La Source while out here in Portland and while it is a good wine (as are most wines of the vintage) it wasn’t at the same level (by a point or two) as Brickhouse’s Evelyn’s or Elk Cove Reserve and a few others who just knocked it out of the park.

  • Wow! Just bought the book today, looking forward to reading it and watching the episode!

  • JordanMackay

Hi, I’m Jordan Mackay the writer of Secrets of the Sommeliers with Raj, and I just wanted to say thanks for all the positive things you all had to say. Means a lot to us that you all liked the book. We’ve got our parties in NY, DC, and Chicago this week, so please come by if you’re in the area of any of those cities. Cheers. And, bravo, Raj, for a great appearance on GV’s show.

  • castello

I’d better see you in Califrisco!

  • Awesome episode!!
Love Rajat and how he got into the wine/restaurant world. Michael Mina’s restaurants – what a success story indeed. Anyway, I’m buying the book! So much to learn about burgundies. Thanks for educating us, Rajat and Gary.

  • castello

    The wine list is amazing!
