QOTD; 06 Argyle Brut. That’s my end of the deal. Hopefully someone will show up with a nice red.

  • SJServo

I will be serving an ’07 Acorn (from Healdsburg) Cab Franc along with a 2005 Due Mila Sette (a Cabernet based meritage) from Castoro Cellars in Paso Robles. And for my non-wine drinking family a fine 2010 Budweiser (only 50 zillion cases made). Enjoy the time with the family.

Oh how a win can rejuvenate your optimism 😉

Probably 2007 Jim Ball Signature Pinot Noir.

  • Great episode. QOTD: BC Pinot Noirs – probably Blue Mountain Strip Label & BC’s best riesling: Tantalus Old Vines.

Re spotiness: That’s what RSS is for.

    Happy Holidays!

Hey there, John. Good call. I’m surprised more people haven’t been saying Pinot.

    Gary,

I am so disappointed that you are not having a x-mas secret pack this year. Ever since the first year, I have hosted a holiday get together for friends and your pack was the star of the show. We would all try a wine and then watch you do your review, it has always been a hit. I have had the same friends come over for at least three years now. I hope you will continue next year and if you don’t please give some advance notice so I can at least do the Thanksgiving secret pack.

    Great Show GARY:

We have been out of touch, but this is *precisely* the sort of show that makes this lurker return and even take the time to criticize. Good show. They’re always good when you surprise yourself, upset expectations, and take a moment to give a shout out to your palate and try to get a read on where it’s headed next.

    -XOXO ~TSL

I may go blindfolded into my wine closet and see what fate hands me.

Hey Gary just remind everyone that complains how much they have paid for WLTV over the past 961 episodes…. Oh yeah nothing.

Thanks for all time you have given us, keep on keep on.

  • First: go Jets! Nice way to break out of a funk.
Second: My wife and I both love Loire Valley wines. We were just there in early October and found Domaine de La Paleine in the Saumur area produced some excellent wines, including cremants (sparkling). Unfortunately, they don’t have a US distributer.
Third: In France it’s just Chenin, not Chenin Blanc, because Chenin is always a white wine.

  • Jeffrey koogler

I don’t believe I have ever experienced a wine that smelled like pig farts. From my exerpience (Northwest Arkansas, Home of the Razorbacks) pig farts won’t sell wine. I have noticed you have not been putting out as many shows, but as a fan, I would like to say that you have put out quite a few shows, and I can understand if you slow down the pace. Keep up the enthusiasm and the quality of the show. It is addicting.

  • the (z)infidel

Gary, could have been a bit more in depth. Loire very good though, very happy. All is forgiven. We know you are a busy man! Happy Holidays.

  • Based on the crowd that will be here we will be serving some white bordeaux and pinot noir.

Merry Christmas all and Happy New Year!

  • Yo Gary, love your show, I watch about 1 or 2 shows per week. I’m watching form Sydney Australia. I just bought a DEUTZ Brut for my receptionist. Good drop…what do you think???

  • QOTD: Not sure yet. Maybe a 2007 Morgon and/or Peter Lehmann Clancy’s and/or a nice B.C. red.

  • Anonymous

Best wine show on the web! AND ITS FREEEEE!!!! Great point Biznas

  • Grellot

    Fly Eagles, Fly !!

  • JOEYdaMUSH

Wow Gary. JETS lose two humiliating games in a row and you’re nowhere to be found. They get a big win and you’re here bright and early revelling in glory.

Didn’t think you were the front-running type fan but now I’m not so sure.

  • WineWoman

Disgusted about the Giants. Not a good way to start the Holiday week…

Haven’t had any Cab Francs in a while. Used to drink them quite often.
QOTD: This year we’re having Prime Rib for Christmas dinner, so it’s a great opportunity for a red wine pairing. Probably leaning toward a Cab or a Barolo. Haven’t narrowed it down yet. It’s always fun.

  • Mauricio Rauld

QOTD: Battle of the Chilean wines at my house. Blind tasting of the most recent vintages of Don Melchor and Almaviva. What’s your favorite Chilean red?

  • Robert Carkeek

Well, I just wanted to share with you about my thanksgiving and the lengths I went to to get that Lewis 2008 Cab you reviewed awhile back. I got on the phone and found it in a little wine shop in Edmonds Wa. about 20 miles from where I live. This as usual was a last minute decision which made my time to get on the ferry for Friday Harbor, San Juan Islands short. There was snow and a four hour wait for a latter ferry, but Gary it was worth it. That was about the best Cab I ever drank. We finished the three bottles around a gorgeous dinner table in candle light looking out at the lavender light flooding the bay. Thanks Gary.

  • Jrouss

QOTD: Xmas wine is going to be the 2007 Goosecross Aeros Meritage

    Love Cabernet Franc

Pushing that Damn Lindor Malbec in the secret pack. Seriously its in the C club series, then in the thanksgiving pack, and now in the Christmas pack. How much of this crap did you guys over buy?? You really should mix up the secret packs rather than re-hash some wines that haven’t sold out out yet. this wine is just HARSH. Take a vote and see who likes it, it must be less than 50% of the guys out there will like it. Sorry, but love the show and wine library.com, as my credit card will attest.

  • John__J

Great to have you back Gary, I love those Loire cab franc’s.

qotd: hmmm good question. For white I think I’m gonna go with this really neat Burgundy I just got from a small distibutuor. It’s a Rene Michel et Fils Vire Clesse Vendange Levroutee (which is the local dialect for vendange tardive or late harvest). It’s rich, full, with a real honeyed nose and delicious fruit-but it’s dry (and at a 15%abv). Really neat fun wine, not something you’d expect when you’re ordering a Burgundy. I’m going to have to give a bit more thought as to what red wine to open.

  • Thanks Allan, how nice dude. I liked your choice of Amarone… you are a classy dude.
My ducks and Jonas Hiller definitely brought the thunder!

  • LurkerKing

    James Suckling who?

  • Anonymous

    So finally got it.

    Cuvelier Los Andes
    2007
    Malbec 60%
    Cabernet Sauvignon 26%
    Merlot 10%
    Petit Verdot 4%

    Should be really interesting!

Thanks very much Allan, I have always appreciated your enthusiasm in all your posts.

    Merry Christmas!

All the people sending Gary some hate should quiet down, as he is clearly one of the most devoted people I know of. (I know I probably sound like I have a man crush, but whatr can I do, gotta back up my man Gary).
Heard you say you had personnal issues to deal with recently, hope all is better and wish you well in that area as I know how important your family is for you.

Discovered Cab franc because of Gary and I quite like it, I have a couple Bourgeuil waiting for me during the holydays, hope they’ll be as good as the Chinons I’ve had.

I’m not gonna tease the Giants too much, as I prefer to talk sh*t before the game rather than after, but what a win for my team, that was outstanding.

For christmas, I’ll be a game time decision, nothing I love more than spend 20 minutes deciding what I wanna drink on a certain night. On the one hand I wanna show my family that there is good canadian wine, so I was thinking a Clos Jordanne pinot noir reserve on the other hand I discoverd this amazing Bolgheri, the Volpolo Sapaio (and I’m not usually a fan of Bordeau varietals, or supertuscans), which I think many would mistake for a wine twice its price (its 25 bones).

Anyways good show Gary and keep on keeping on.

  • QOTD: 2003 Larmandier Bernier Grand Cru, 1998 Guigal Cote Rotie Brune et Blonde, 2003 Doisy Vedrines. Roast chicken. Baked apple cinnamon dessert.

  • QOTD: 03 Larmandier Bernier Grand Cru, 98 Guigal Cote Rotie Brune et Blonde, 03 Doisy Vedrines. Roast chicken. Baked apple dessert.

  • Eclecto

QOTD: Canadian Chard – Clos Jordan – amazing stuff.

(BTW – Ontario does some excellent cab-francs, and many are truly funkay: rhubarb + raspberry with a touch of skunk-funk is typical: and I love a good one: Stratus ’07 is pretty good )

Freaky coincidence, picked up a Chinon today – Couly-Dutheil ’07 – that wouldn’t have happened had you not clued me into Chinon much earlier Gary! What was especially cool was talking to the wine consultant, he was thrilled to walk me passed the Bordeaux and all the Chateauneuf’s, to a cool little spot where they kept a small collection of Chinon’s, it seemed all the true hipster’s where well-aware of Chinon if not completely into it, and I scored major points for just showing an interest: Poseur’s don’t buy Chinon, they just ask questions about Chateauneuf – LOUDLY!

  • Rsaikowski

Either talk about wine or talk sports. Professional sports are out of touch with reality. Where else would you pay a dumb ass more than what a school district has for its entire annual budget? All Professional Sports are wacko, including JETS!

Now get back with reality and talk about what you originally intended to, being WINE! If you continue with the Professional Sports, you are dropped off the Cowboy’s viewing! I do not mean Dallas Cowboys. I mean this Texas wine-loving guy. Rembember me? I was the guy that showed you The Woodlands during Wine & Food Week in The Woodlands. Focus on wine. Don’t focus on professional sports! Let’s see if you will take the advice of a commoner. James Suckling won’t

  • jdidom

Lurker no more…Mott, sorry about the G-men. As an Eagle fan I had an almost guilty feeling after they won that game. As much fun as it was to watch, I can only imagine your disappointment.

QOTD: I’ll bring a chateauneuf du Pape most likely and the bro in law will probably supply a Barolo and or a Cali cab.

  • Anonymous

Good to see ya back Gar. And great to see some Chinon!!!! Wish they were a little more pleasing for ya.

QOTD: Thinking about popping a sparkling Loire Chenin Blanc. Might do a Sangiovese to go with some veal ravioli at dinner.

  • I can’t say I’m not bummed about not having a secret pack this year. It’s been a family tradition. I can appreciate that you have a family of your own that you need to spend time with, and you told us you’d be doing more of that this year.

Soooo…with that said, what’s an alternative? Can you point us to 3-5 easily obtainable wines that you’ve reviewed? Maybe everyone here can do an ad hoc tasting, watch some old Gary V clips, and post on Christmas day?

    Who’s with me?

  • Your long time followers know you are loyal!! Keep up the good work! Sorry about the Chinons.

QOTD: We celebrate early in the day – Mimosas with Brunch! Merry Christmas!

    GO BEARS!!!

  • Anonymous

People react based on expectations. Thanks for setting the stage for January and 2011, looking forward to it.

Christmas wine is usually our “splurge” for the year. This year it’s Dunn.
